I love jumping off a cliff and intercepting an enemy by using diagonal lower tilt + A, punching them down to hell and then making it back up with up + B. :laugh

He's so good, that one of my friends who is really damn good at it(can beat us 3v1) banned himself from using him and among his other friends who play well. Basically Jigglypuff is the cheese to end all cheese.

Well, according to tiers and stuff, the "best" characters or the most imbalanced ones are Shiek, Fox (these two always at the top), Marth and Peach. They are the most deadly when mastered and are almost impossible to beat by say, someone who has mastered a Bowser (who's at the bottom of the tier).

To me, my favorites are Marth, Samus and Ness.

The only thing I can think of that has ever made my friends that mad before is when we were little kids and played street fighter. I would do cross over jump kicks when they crouching blocked, sweeps and uppercuts when they were landing from their jumpkicks, and throws as often as humanly possible. Alos, when they were almost dead, I would play possum and wait until they slipped up. If they had ropes, they would have lynched me XD

I actually liked to play the game, so I used Samus and she pwns all.
If you are a god in that game, you can use Ness. I couldn't fully use him, but if you get the trick down, you can't fall off the stage using his trick with his own attack.

Young link also pwned. Old Link was way too slow.

Marth takes very little skill to use. The only skill in it is countering, the real damage most people deal with him is spamming the smash stick. Marth's attacks are far more powerful if you manage to hit your opponent with the tip of his sword. Also his smash attacks and movements are far more speedier than Roy's. :)

You don't have to take the tiers too seriously (if you like a character just stick with it) but they are certainly not just a bunch of crap since all the characters are not perfectly balanced, some of them are clearly better than others.

In addition to have the highest horizontal travel potential (pound, float, pound, float... and eventually rollout if needed) it also has a great hit and run attack with rollout.

BTW, with Rest I find that you need to be right up in their face to hit with it, and even then it may not hit. Anyone know the exact dynamics of how it hits/works?

High skill fights. I mostly play against mates, and they all use fast characters. I have Dr.Mario he's to slow to fight Falco. But in a fight against Falco I mostly dodge until the opponent makes a mistake and I'll combo his ass off xD

ok, its time for valdens to put his 2 cents into this otherwise lacking thread(all threads are lacking without me). the best character(or at least for me) is fox. he is the fastest, and i dont mean regular speed, but manuverablity, plus the fact he falls fast is a good thing. plus i prees buttons faster than the 35 000 some odd members here(anyone can challenge me to an a button pressing contest). and his gun gets serious damege if you press it fast. he can deflect any attack and fall down slow with his sheild. with his zoomy thing, you can upset an oppenennt and get an edge on them. and his fire move is, in my opinion the best third jump in the game. it is long, the easiest to masnuver, and gives you a second to pick direction. i beat that giga bowser mewtwo ganondorf team amtch in 1 try(occasionally 2) with fox. i challenge any of you to say you are better than me. i will roleplay your ass ssbm style and pwn you.

As for me, Ice Climbers does the trick. They are so annoying that it always gets people off their game when I play them. But nothing can beat Capt Falcons aerial forward + A... the knee. That thing can smash characters out at 70% and it's not even a smash! XD

On a serious note, I doubt any of us on this board are as good as those guys in the videos. I thought I was pretty damn good until I watched them, and then I started crying in shame. XD

I love this game, SSB was the first game I got on N64 and GC. I used to love owning my friends in this game, but the game disc got scratched up and you cant evan start it any more.

Also Samus used to be my favorite, Im probably as good with him as with the two I mentioned.

Im not talking about speed or power only, I'm talking about:

1) Combo abillity
2) Recovery
3) Traction
4) Shortnes of short hops
5) Projectiles?
6) How easy it is to KO someone
7) Speed
8) Power
9) Difficulty of high level play
10) Novelty
And alot of other crap I forgot to mention

Based on this, the list is totally perfect.
I'm a "professional" SSBM player..trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

The only real way Roy is better is that with both at full charge, Roy's Blazing Blade is more powerful than Marth's version of it (or at least it seems to be). Otherwise, Marth is better than Roy in pretty much every way.

Depends on what type of fight your doing.

I find Link one of the most well rounded characters and is awesome in both free for all, team, and duels.
Id say Fox or Falco are the best for one on one matches. If you can manage their speed and time their attacks just right you can just knock someone's points up and then go for a killing blow.
Mario is pretty exceptional. Hes very easy to play and is also extremely well rounded.
Luigi. He is a rather more complex version of Mario and is also very well rounded. I think hes better then Mario though.

I think it matters your type of play style though. i find Link as my best type of character and I can pull off some wicked ass moves. I annilate my friends in 2 on 1s and hes my favorite to use.
Fox comes in second because Im equally as good with him as I am with Link. I find him more difficult on the 2 on 1 matches but I tend to destory my friends none the less.

I love hearing them praise after killing me once after I knocked off 3-4 of their lives in a 2 on 1 match.

Pretty much everyone (except for new people) wavedash and L-cancel.

I've never been to MLG before to be honest, but atm I'm (second)best in europe.
So I'd place pretty high at MLG (No way to be sure how high though).
Probably varies from 1-25th (Out of 30-150 people) depending on what MLG I'd go to.

Any tips on those manuevers?

I can't wavedash very consistantly. I usually time it wrong and land.

I've looking into duplicating some of the Samus bomb tricks I've seen people do.

And power shielding. That's a bitch for me -__- Even when I think I have the timing, it fails, so I don't do it.

Everyone is going to refer to their selves in a debate. Only real way to find out is by actually playing each other.

I cant be bad or whatever if the people Ive fought can take out L9s but I dont even lose a life against them in a 5 life match up. I also prefer not to use items because some of those are like an instant kill if used correctly(poke balls are hacks, and that bat? Dont get me started >.<)

Id hardly consider myself casual when i would play 99 life matches with it at 50%. You know how long those matches take? At this moment and time Im what you would consider an ex-SSBM player. I can still spank the crap out of my step brother and his friend without playing the game for acouple of years but i think they would have issues vs a L9 CP.

Nah, my cousin is better at Fox and Id say I look better then he does playing Fox. He is good though. My cousin was fricken good at the game as well. Our matches would always be the best compared to everyone else. Im a far better FFA player then he is though and he has his "gives up" moments which sucks.

Other then that hes a fricken beast with Fox.

Your style is very aggressive. It would be hard for me to adapt to it cause Ive never played against such an aggressive opponent.

If that guy used Captain Falcon I could easily beat him. if he used Fox it would be a tad difficult, of course I find Fox and Falco the best 1 on 1 characters in the game. I kind of prefer Falco because his laser packs a punch unlike Fox's little crappy gun. All that is good for is knocking their % up

Final Destination I find the best for duel matches. it really doesnt matter which character you use its the most basic and flat terrain leaving it up to mostly skill. No items makes it all the more better as well.

Since you guys tend to jump(A LOT) thats probably the mian reason. Falco is faster and jumps higher then Fox in the air. Fox is a better runner.

1. Captain Falcon (Falcon Punch, MUTHA FUGGA~!)
2. Jigglypuff (Just so I can see my opponent's WTF face when I use Puff's cheap sleeping move)
3. Ness (Really fun to use)
4. Ganondork (Really fuckin' slow, but his cheap moves make up for it)
5. Kirby (Especially nice when your opponent only has one life. You suck him up, jump off of the edge, and GAME!).

IC's 4 top tier! I find that while landing is the best opportunity to desync them
(because Nana won't recover the landing or wavesurf ever) and the roll-then attack combos are the best way to keep them out of sync.

The disadvantage is that Nana is usually against a good player when you aren't attacking, Nana is an open target. Thus you have be as agressive as hell.

On the plus side, they can't block-grab you because Nana will hit them.

I play as Marth, I don't use the c-stick, using it makes you a n00b in my book. I don't wavedash because I'm lazy and it's too much thinking, besides, I kick enough ass without it. And lastly, Items are also for n00bs. That is all XD I'll try to get a tape of me playing up, but I probably can't, don't have a camera.

But take Kirby for example, he gets screwed over by the OB being a few feet after the ledge because it negates the floats advantage and it and weakens lightweights.

Take Ness's stage - he can't get out the pits between building with PK Thunder XD

IMO the tiers are made based on the best in Final destination.
Different stages are better for different characters. Team JPs own Hyrule because they can get anywhere fast and manipulate the situation into 2 on 1s... XD

Me and my friends only use Hyrule when we're playing with items on very high occurance or when we intentionally want a long game.

When we're fighting to test skill - like most - we stick with Final Destination.
