Don't worry. I've got it covered. He likes it when I gently tease his USB ports, so I've been unplugging and replugging my Ipod for about a half hour (little does he know, it's because my connector's loose so it takes forever to get it to hook in and sustain a charge :awesome)

I don't think you're missing out on much. All of the dressing up here in the states is an excuse for guys to a) dress up in the profession they wish they could be or b) act a fool, while for women is entirely a) an excuse to dress up like a complete skank-ho. And just about all adults get drunk on Halloween, enhancing a strange sense of escapism and discgrace which permeates this form of the holiday.

I prefer the Catholic variations throughout the world, which focus on a more meaningful topic - loved ones who have passed away. Death is always a source of despair that increases our longing for more permanent bonds; I suggest this is our preternatural desire for the eternal. It draws out a sense that the terminus of our lives is incomplete without an ultimate meaning attached to it. Death and Love evoke big thoughts, grand and overwhelmingly human, tragic and beautiful in light of our frailty.

So dont worry about the candy and them hoes. Or the fat drunk guys. Life goes on, but it is always good to remember who and what have passed.

I can't really say much on the subject since I've never been to the States on Halloween, but I sincerely hope it's not as routine and phony as you make it sound. It must be at least very entertaining to the kids, with the costumes and pumpkins and whatever else you guys do there.

It's a definitely very solemn holiday here, and I like its atmosphere. Crowds of people visit cemetaries throughout the day, and the graves for once looked like they're taken care of. But at the same time, I can visit the graves of my loved ones on any other time of the year. You have just this one day to celebrate Halloween customs and that makes it special.

Of course nothing is ever as two dimensional as one person's point of view. Life is to big and the human race is too diverse to account for all of the variations that are not only possible, but are probably inevitable.

In my own adult life, I am probably just bitter that I've never found a group of happy-go-lucky people that would go out with me on Halloween and have some good clean fun (imo alcohol isn't really necessary to have an amazing time goofing and chilling with friends). It's nice for adults to act like kids again, and I just don't get that outlet. Adults in the mainstream make Halloween exactly too adult (by mixing alcohol and strong sexual overtones) which is the very problem I'm griping about.

I know there are people out there living Halloween exactly the way I wish I could, and God bless them, I'm glad to know someone is...I just wish it was me too.

And that is a good thing, I think. We humans tend to forget very easily and that is why cultural events make their way into the calendar - the annual nature of a holiday is so that at least once, we take the time to recollect ourselves as to the importance of this or that holiday and the theme it promotes (loving our mothers on Mother's Day, Celebrating Independence on Independence Day, Remember our nation's soldiers on Memorial Day, etc etc.)

Ah, then I understand completely what you mean. I have this idea in my head that it must be a fun holiday for people, but thinking realistically, adult people such as me don't go trick or treating or wear costumes on that day. They might go to a scary movie night in the cinema but I have this here as well, so I'm not missing much.

I feel the same way about Christmas holidays, which have become extremely routine in my family in the last couple of years. Should I blame it on the fact I grew up and that holiday lost a lot of its charm? Maybe if I tried to spend it differently once in a while I'd get the magic back.

holidays are so different around the world. I have a friend, well a few of them actually, who'd love Halloween all year round. They aren't goth or even faux goth, they just the creepy atmosphere and scary things. But the original meaning of the event is lost to most ppl unfortunately.

I dont like shoujo either:ohHaha, I actually do like shoujo/josei. It just depends on the title, as some are utterly terrible to the point where seeing how many holes the plot and characters have whilst having to look at the worst in sparkley, love-love art makes you just want to go do horrible things to cute animals so as to bring the world back into balance; unfortunately, these also tend to be the titles that are the most popular (what the hell?!). Whereas others have better characters and/or humor than I've found regularly in any other genre (well, seinen could stand a chance of winning in the character category).

And, coincidentally, the first scan was from a mangaka that I greatly enjoy XD As the situation shown definitely wasn't meant to be taken seriously in the series; a lot of her works satirize or poke fun at established shoujo ideals even those of good series. If you laughed at the ridiculousness of it, then you gave the exact reaction that she was going for XD

I like seinen slighty more, through I haven't read a manga in ages:-(

It just means he's paying attention. and honestly, shouldn't that be a good thing?

We are who we are. If someone is able to pick up on characteristics of our personality, no biggie.

And don't get me wrong. It's not like I know your life story or could tell you your weight, your IQ, your habits, and your relationship status. But by paying attention to little morsels people drop in conversation here and there, you can begin to formulate a picture, you can definitely know more about them than they've stated explicitly.

Edit 2: I just read ch. 44 of Vampire Knight. I usually hate Shoujo. Well, imo the art is horrific across the board. If one woman would draw her manga without freakishly big eyes (even big by manga standards) and all that stringy damn hair, I'd probably be able to enjoy the experience. That said, VK was very well written. I enjoyed the read, by trudging through the art is such a labor. Sheesh.

Edit 3: The new Fairy Tale arc seems very promising. Good guys forced to kill other good guys in order to kill the bad guy, thus saving their favorite good guy = very compelling
