Why doesn't knox carry a gun or a grenade or something around?

Being black alone has lost most of the fear conjuring it would have used to caused. Seems to me he should carry a gun or a grenade that way people who aren't metahuman can freak out only making him strong enough to do something like rip someone's head off subzero style powering him further.
