Some facts:

In his defence, the ants were NOT mere fodder; they were above soldier level. He went head to head with a captain-level AND a Division commander. (well, he didn't see her/him coming).

But for the rest: he was one of the weakest of the whole exam, got easily pwnd by Hanzo, and would have lost much sooner if Killua had found him worthy to fight against (which he didn't! :amuse ). He even recognised his own weakness in the end of the exam in the anime.

As for the counterarguments that he fought against Zazan and Spiderdude, where Feitan and Shizuku had trouble with...ermmm...first of all, spider-dude could hold out so long against shizuku because she was almost as stupid as him: any nen-user of the same level but with a bit more intelligence would have finished him of much sooner. As for Zazan : he was pwnd by Feitan, while Pokuru was totally pwnd by Zazan (He didn't even notice her coming).

And, last but not least: when Pokuru fought those two ants...THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW NEN YET!!! Some small detail you seem to forget! Normally, a non-nen user can't hope to win against a nen-user, so even taken into account they were ants, he still should have wiped the floor with them, if he was top-tier (or even mid-tier).

As for his other arrows: that is mere speculation. I could as well claim there was an arrow which only healed, or whiped someones' ass, or something. We just don't know. The fact that he let his defences go down while attacking the spiderdude shows to me he wasn't really that good or skilled. I doubt top-tier nen-users would have been so careless - you see Silva being stung like that? I don't. Not even Killua, for that matter.

No...I'll go as far as contemplating he might have been an above-average nen-hunter by the time of the ant-arc, but he certainly wasn't top or even mid-tier.

He was a reasonably good side-character though, I'll give you that (though I prefer Hanzo more, in that respect). Not important enough that the story straddles by his death, but enough that we can feel empathy for his sordid fate.

Anyway, he's dead now, and unless he resurrects (gods' forbid), I'm not considering him to be Jesus. (And even then he'd have to be able to walk on water :) )
