Sendo vs Volg question

Ok, I'll make this clear, I'm watching the anime before the manga, but assuming they're the same here, and this place is more active than the anime thread so heh. I havnt actually seen the fight yet either, though I know sendo is the last person ippo fights in the show so I assume sendo wins..

My question is this.. Why are sendo and volg fighting for the japanese championship? Sendo lost to Ippo, and ippo became ranked 10th (sendo 11th maybe? I donno..), and Volg isnt even japanese! On top of that, both of them lost to Ippo, and even though ippo lost to date, shouldnt he get the belt, since he's ranked first, the best, after date leaves?

Sorry if this was explained and I just havnt been patient enough for an explanation lol, I just dont get this.

Obviously race doesn't make a difference for title matches. And Vorg was ~4th ranked when he fought Ippo. Sendo would have easily gotten strong enough to take on someone like Okita or someone around his rank. Most likely, since that dude Vorg beat up in the tournament lost his place and Vorg took it, while Sendo rose along the ranks.

since Ippo was ranked 2nd and lost, when Date gave up the belt, it was up to the 3rd and 4th rankers to fight for the belt, since it wouldn't make sense to give Ippo a 2nd chance in a row, especially without recovery time. So Sendou was ranked 3rd and Vorg was 4th, Vorg was in the japanese ranking system so he was able to get a shot for Japan's title.

I may be wrong though, been awhile since I read that far back. I just know the fight was awesome.

Ippo won the rookie championship like a year before his Date fight, Sendo had enough time to rise through the ranks during that time period. He could have easily caught up. Which he did.

Volg got himself a japanese boxing liscense. Just like Ozuma (an american)

Actually, Ippo became first ranked through the a-class tournament. There is a distinction between 1st ranked and champion(stated by takamura).

No, how could he? Ippo was rated first whilst Date was rated champion. Had Date lost, he would've been ranked first. But since Ippo lost, he still hadn't a place to go down to, but there was a vacant champion slot.

Actually guys, when a champion lose a fight and his belt, he usually lose a LOT of rank. I'm not completly sure about the country ranking, but in the world stage a champion that lose his belt often got to go back in the 8 round fight and end up without any world ranking. Mike Tyson, for exemple, have to go back in 10 round fight when he lose his belt.

In other words, he maintained his rank ever after he lost. However, Date relinquished his belt and Ippo was in no shape to fight at that point. So, the championship rank was vacant.

The next two highest ranked boxers in Japan were Sendou (2nd) and Vorg (3rd), so they got the chance to fight for the championship belt.

Vorg likely became 3rd rank after having reached the A-Tourney final, and Sendou kept on fighting in Osaka, which probably earned him the second rank.
