I listened through Elliott Smith's self titled album today.
I must say that it's beutiful. This albums is amazing.
Favorite tracks at the moment are.
Needle in the Hay - Amazing song, the guitar work is quite basic, it's Elliott's voice which does the major amazingness in this song.
Coming Up Roses - I listened to the album while taking a walk with my MP3-player, I was walking trough a park when this song came on. The effect was so amazing that I got an urge to kill myself, becasue for a second I had no toughts in my head.
The Biggest Lie - Wow, these lyrics rule. Amazing. Best outro to an album ever.
Anyway discuss Elliott.
*shows off his Elliott Smith tee*
My fav and most influencal singer/songwriter. I have all his albums, I know all his songs, and he is no longer a man in my eyes. More like a god.

It's often how talent ends.

@sag: It's how the best talents usually end--self-inflicted or self-assisted death. Jimi, The (bloated) King, etc. ad infinitum, dude.
@moe: The one good thing about his death is it brought the public eye on him and his music in a way that never would have happened if he lived a long and happy life. Because he didn't appreciate himself, the rest of the world is more likely to. The irony is horrific, but at least his music is getting out there, now...

I've just heard a couple of song by him but he never caught me, though he is an good vocalist and his guitar work isn't bad either. But i'm not so fond of singer/songwriters...

Well I've been trying to get into him, since before his death, but could never find his albums. I was kind of surprised when he suddenly goes and dies.

I wrote two independent couplets based on the same theme: Elliot Smith and other artists who died before fulfilling their potential:
Here's the first one:
The great sometimes die young, while the rest of us grow old
But the world is warmed by those good hearts despite their bodies’ cold.
Here's number 2:
The brightest stars burn out but not before they leave a mark
Their nova lights up every eye and leaves behind a spark
They're both pretty shitty, but I felt inclined to write something and so I did.

his last album "from a basement on the hills" has some of his best work on it
his last album "from a basement on the hills" has some of his best work on it
and to think it wasnt even finished. The album was 75% done, and his firends completed the production. It might have been even greater if he managed to finish it.
sigh..and joe doesnt help eithe. Now Im going to write an Elliott song

I've seen the ES memorial. It's so effing sad. I was drunk and wandering around LA and I kept asking people how to get to it and finally I found it. Totally surreal...just....sad.

There needs to be more discussion about my favorite singer/songwriter. I'm currently spinning Either/Or and it's fucking brilliant.
Do you still need that pimpage HN?

Loved Either/Or. Favorite tracks are Speed Trials, Say Yes and the oh-so good Angeles. I didn't really like his voice at first but the more I got used to it the more better he was. I'd like to hear more from him and of his other albums would be great.
fuckign hell, I cant stop listening to single file and Alphabet town for the past 3 hours

Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who likes XO more than Either/Or. :(
Both are brilliant albums though.
