Shikamaru is good a planning and very smart but... Kabuto was still able to take down Tsunade. Not to mention, Kabuto isn't dumb either. He could create a little plan of his own.
This fight could go either way. If Kabuto gets a hit on Shikamaru with chakra scalpel, Shikamaru is done for. If Shikamaru catches Kabuto, and Kabuto doesnt find a way to get out, he is done for.

Shika without prep cannot take out Kabuto and Kabuto is really smart himself, he was able to quickly recover from Tsunade's Ranshinsho which disrupts the flow of electrical signals from brain to body. Kabuto has also shown genjutsu abilities and he has a fast healing rate.

i dont know how but i have a strong gut instinct tht shika would get his as beat really hard.look at the skills on kabuto...Skill>>>>>>Smarts imo.

Kabuto took the rasengan straight to his stomach and was a little tired afterwards.

Last time I checked, Shikamaru didn't have a move like Rasengan or Chidori.
And unlike the Sannin fight, Kabuto does not have to fight a restricted Tsunade and Shizune before he fights Shikamaru, unlike when he fought Naruto.

Last time I checked, Shikamaru didn't have a move like Rasengan or Chidori.
And unlike the Sannin fight, Kabuto does not have to fight a restricted Tsunade and Shizune before he fights Shikamaru, unlike when he fought Naruto.

Shika lost to tayuya and surrendered to Temari - yes he can think of a strategy but kabuto isn't some dumbass like naruto and he's simply too much for shika (no prep).

Both are seriously intelligent but I give this to Kabuto easily. Pre time skip he was on par with Kakashi and took down Tsunade while trying not to kill her. Over the time skip his abilities I assume have only improved he would probably evade Kage Mane and if he did get caught he would probably find a way to get out just like he figured out Tsunade's abilities and countered them.

Naruto beat Kabuto pretty cheaply. Naruto has the strongest will in the manga. Shikamaru however, does not. Plus, Kabuto underestimated Naruto. Kabuto, who is Kakashi level, didnt think a genin like Naruto could stop him. He wont underestimate Shikamaru at all.

The fighting style is what will give shika the advantage. Kabuto fights up close and that would make it easy for Shika to catch his shadow. Shika also has the speed advantage unlike Tsunade. And Kubuto doesn't know about Shadow knives. You gotta give a way for Kabuto to beat Shika, because Kabuto > Tsunade won't work.
Shikamaru rapes this.

Kabuto is smart but it goes the same for Shikamaru, obviously. It depends on fighting style and strategy. 1 hour till sundown...I'm sure Shikamaru can think of something to buy some time.
yes, 1hour is pretty long and Kabuto being as smart as he is can also plan something to make the match in his advantage.
It 's pretty though to say, but I'm giving this one Shikamaru because he believes in "The Will Of Fire":noworry.

kabuto wins this, you guys forget he's oro's right hand, he knows all his summons and forbidden techniques.
So what if shadows are everywhere, can he shadow trap a giant snake? how about 4-5? Also, they are on a bridge, not in the middle of a forest, there aren't going to be that many shadows, maybe a couple with the railings or poles on the bridge but nothing significant.

Shikimaru shadow bind techniques are not that fast. They are moving quite slow. That is why Shikimaru needs to use his intelligence to outsmart his opponent so that they fall into his shadow bind trap. Kabuto won't fall for that. In his fight with Tsunade, he proves that his perception on jutsus are spot on. And he is no slow poke. He is quite fast. He is able to dodge Shizune's poison needle at point blank range. He is able to evade her raining needles. He is able to escape her poison gas at close range by quickly going underground via his doton jutsu. He can easily avoid Shikimaru's shadow bind and comes up from under his feet and kill SHikimarur or whatever.
Not to mention, he has far more experience and skills than Shikimaru.

While I do admit that both Shikamaru and Kabuto are both genius' in their own right, I feel Kabuto will be able to win this battle with little difficulty. Albeit, Shikamaru will have a plan. Shikamaru will capture Kabuto with his Kage mane. Shikamaru will deal significant damage to Kabuto. Those factors are all a given. Sadly, those factors aren't what determine this fight. The question that remains and will determine the outcome and winner of this fight is, does Shikamaru have a strong enough means of attack to put Kabuto down for the count? The short answer is no. Shikamaru, while highly intelligent, simply doesn't have anything on the level of base Rasengan that can overcome Kabuto's regeneration. Despite all his planning, Shikamaru simply lacks the power to disable Kabuto, though suffication might work.

Kabuto can't summon the snakes himself. He has to use Oro's blood. You should look over the Sannin fight again. Kabuto also stated that Oro favors him becasue of his regen abilities. So your whole snake plan won't work out.

Yet his regeneration was able to withstand the full brunt of a Rasengan with Kabuto standing back up without a scratch. If a simple exploding tag would be enough to surpass the regeneration, then I feel there would be no need for Rasengan. It would take multiple explosions for Shikamaru to make a lasting impression to Kabuto. Furthermore, Kabuto has use of doton jutsu, in which he may be able to eliminate Shikamaru before the fight really starts. Though, it will be close. Afterall, it's Shikamaru. I can't really pin-point his exact analyzing abilties or strategy but only go off what we've seen.

Kabuto both outsmarted Kakashi and relearned his entire nervous system in seconds. Feats such as these are much more then Shikamaru has shown.

But he can dodge. Tayuya proved how easy this was, and Kabuto is a medical ninja. Medicals ninjas specialize in dodging.
Kabuto also keeps kunai's, food pills and a scroll of dead corpses on him at all times. The combo of corpse reanimation-dig doton-chakra scapels is one I don't see Shikamaru avoiding. The rest of the match is a piece of cake from there. Low-fat, tasty cake at that.

Kabuto takes this. Shikamaru usually wins by outsmarting his opponents and I can't see that happening with Kabuto.

Naruto is the main character. And Kabuto is victim of the worst "plot no jutsu" so far...
As for the battle... I can't see Shikamaru winning, especially with no prep time. Kabuto has seen him fight, he knows what is to fear from Shikamaru, and won't make the mistake to underestimate his brain. The Shadow techniques are quite visible, and as for the Shadow Knive... Kabuto won't be dumb enough to believe that Shikamaru would aim that bad if it wasn't on purpose.
And Kabuto is fast, precise and intelligent. One hit from him would be enough to cripple Shikamaru, and we know Kabuto has the skill in dodging to get close enough to his opponent.
