The Music Dept. MixTape© Project : General Discussion

A new feature that I though would be a nice add-on to the dept, and a new way to expand our tastes and music knowelgde and share new bands.

Basically, this is the idea:

Every week, I will make a new topic, in which all the frequent music Dept. members (and any other NF members ofcourse) can contribute in. We will all collaborate in making a MixTape to fit the topic. We will all first nminatee song that we feel fits the topic, every member will upload the songs and send them to those interested in the MixTape and we will decide on the track order of the MT.

Critera for any MixTape:

1- No Longer than 15 Tracks.
2- you MUST upload the songs and send them to everyone (who wants to hear it)
3- No more than 2 songs by a certain band.
4- Tracklisting would be decided by a vote.
5- I will stop accepting songs on Sunday. I'll up all the songs sent to me and Ill pm it to everyone who contributed (or simply wants to hear) the songs. Then you must vote some songs off, and make what you believe is a good tracklisting for the songs.
5- After the MT is done, I'll save it to my pc and upload it for everyone interested


I hope you all like this idea :amuse, and now, for my first trick (check 2nd post)

I'm a little pissed at people for not naming their files properly. It's a pain to make this list since people suck, and what was up with those two untitled tracks. WTF? How am I suppose to vote for that?

I myself made sure to add the artists name infront of the songs, because I'm a considerate person, it doesn't take much time and makes it easier for everyone.

Like I saidbefore yesterday, I accidently deleted the pms I recieved that day before I moved them to each specific folder ( I have a folder for music sent to me, and a floder made for the MixTape)

If I didnt add your pm and/or I deleted it by mistake, I really am sorry. I had 479 pms and alot of them got delted while attempting to clear some space

I suggest that for the next tape..we devide the sends. Like we assign 3 people to collect them... everyone suggest their songs..and then we divide it into even portions and tell everyone to who they should send it. That way one person doesn't have to deal with 300 incoming pms. Once everything is collected we zipp it up each and send it to the moe. then moe can put the three zips into one zip and send away.

And.. I think closed should mean closed...cause the additional entries are what's fucking it all up. Maybe we'll miss out on some great stuff then..but at least we won't have this mess of people being pissed that pm's didn't arrive and people making us relisten the whole tape cause they have some additional entries.

But really, it's the first time we ever do such a project that will involve all the users in the Dept. So mistakes should be expected :amuse. All in all, by the 3rd mixtape, we should have everything working smoothly =]

I know .. but organizing and solving is what I do best ;p And because this is a pretty big project with lots of people dropping in from all sides.... so it needs to be organized pretty tight to keep the grumbling to a minimum. So I suggest drawing out a workplan before we start on tape 2. ^^

The primary problem with YSI is that it allows for only 21 d/ls, and the problem with megaupload is that it sucks/takes eons to download

Why dont you guys just share your msn/AIM if its no problem? And send things through it.

I can't get file transfers to work with my AIM. Long story.

However, my friend Chris is working on getting a server up. The both of us could perhaps get a file upload script on it. Also, it could provide for a place to download the mixtape. That should prove to be more reliable than those damn sites. I can't promise anything though, I still need to pitch the idea to him.

@catatonik: Yeah, I believe that was the one that won. However, before we start, we need to decide who will organize everything in moe's absence. I vote S&G since moe entrusted him to PM everybody the apocolypse mixtape. Also, my server is fixed but it's not online yet. It should be up before next week though.

I vote for splitting up organization to prevent it from becoming a mess again. Putting iy all on moe was the reason why it messed up.

I agree not a good idea, to put everything on me. While I do have a bigger PM, I still don't have an mod PM, which can have 500 messages. I think it would be easy to overload my PM.

Maybe every third person that sends their recommendation shall send it to another person. Don't no if this can be done practically tough.

Yes back. Okay..my suggestion in the basics:

We just let everyone make their suggestions for the mixtape. After a week we close it. Closed means closed...no additional stuff. We split the entries up in even groups and divide it over the people that are the collectors. I think 3 is a nice number.

So then we have 3 packages.
From there we have 2 ways to go ( 3 if explicits site thing works out)
1: One of the three collects it...preferably someone with aim. They put it on YSI and make it available for people to get it off them over aim.
2: each keeps their package and puts it on YSI or aim > smaller pacakges to dll, but you'll have to dll three
3: explicit gets the site thing up and puts it there.

4: I collect it all, put it on YSI, aim and soulseek and suck up to my bf to put it on his site =þ

Collectors sofar: S&G, Maho (we need one more)

I think we should give people as many options as possible on how to get it, cause if we trust it all on one thing we'll get qeues into oblivion.

Well I'm back for good and I felt that there was a need for people to get into random music, I don't want to talk bad about the Music Cult but to me it's not much different than downloading stuff randomly myself.

MusicTape has a more community thing going on, which I like.

I also felt that the music department had in many ways gone to sleep, we need to have more communication about music and not just the pimping threads where people that are intrested get pimped. This way everyone who participates gets to hear new music.
