I'm kind of the same, although I can tolerate tsundere characters MOST of the time (but tsundere is my least favorite personality).

I tend to like these types:

-Moralfags

If done correctly, they can be good characters. Shounen has a lot of these but they're usually shit. These types of characters always fight for the greater good or for their own morals.

Favorite Moralfags:

-Fate/Stay Night - Shirou
-Code Geass - Suzaku
-Karin/Chibi Vampire - Kenta

-Yandere

Those creepy stalkers that will do anything for their loved one. They are usually batshit insane (or turn that way) and have murderous tendencies.

Favorite Yandere characters:

-Mirai Nikki - Yuno
-Shuffle! - Kaede
-Higurashi - Rena (not exactly yandere)

I have others, but those are my favorites. I guess it sounds weird to say I actually like moralfags (since most people hate them), but I just do for some reason.

There are probably four types of characters I like:

1.) Villains are the top. It doesn't matter if there's a hint of good to them. That does make me more attached, but if there's no good, I still love them as long as there's some reasoning to them. I don't even need them to be serious. Antagonists who I have fallen for: Nakago (FY), Orochimaru, Darcia (WR), Seishirō Sakurazuka (X), and Griffith (Beserk).

2.) That friend of the main character who doesn't get nearly enough attention. Sometimes the bad-guy-turned-good fits into this. I know, it is odd that I like these perfectly nice guys while just a number ago I said I like villains even if they are heartless. My tastes are particular. Ones that fall into this: Killua (HxH), Franz (okok, so he's not from a manga series, but he's awesome and so is Gankutsuou), Nuriko (FY), and Ken (Digimon :P).

3.) The lazy/uncaring/goofy dude who can be cool and series and cares a whole lot about people when it matters. Read: Jiraiya. X3

4.) Badass ladies who lead/are apart from the rest of the cast somehow. Somehow this appeals to me more than badass guys. Anyway, examples are: Yūko (XXXholic), Urd (OMG!), Karen (X), Hanajima and Uotani (FB).

1. Arrogant, (shit talking) Badasses: Cross Marian(D.Gray-Man), Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho), Grimmjow(Bleach) etc.

2. Nutty Ass Bloodlusted Fighters: Zaraki Kenpachi(Bleach), Winters Socalo(D.Gray Man), Jack Rakan(Negima), Mujang(Shin Angyo Onshi) etc.

3. Strong Silent Types: Ulquiorra(Bleach), Sesshomaru(Inuyasha), Fate Averrencus(Negima), Hibari(Hitman Reborn) etc.

I like a lot of the ones said: comical badass (eg. Urahara), shit-talker (eg. Cross), etc. I'll love a character if he can make me lawl or put me in awe.

I also like:

- characters obsessed with manliness or aesthetics (eg. Franky, Elfman).

- silly, hyperactive girls (eg. Rukia, Haru, Tomo).

- cute, foul-mouthed girls (eg. Tayuya, Hiyori).

- the handsome, good-mannered guy who seems to act of his own accord and is more laid-back than he probably should be - characters like this can be good guys but are usually villains who redeem themselves (eg. Gamma, Tyki Mikk, Stark)

Also, an in-joke with my friends is that GAR characters need a "cute item." This is a reference to Ouran High School Host Club, when it's explained that people don't fear Nori because he has Honey - his "cute item." Examples: Zaraki Kenpachi, Hibari Kyouya, plenty more...

Hmm... my favourite types of characters? In no particular order:

1) Machiavellian geniuses. There's something about them that makes them so... interesting and smexy. I'm someone who highly values intelligence IRL, so I guess it's natural that I'm drawn to these clever bastards. They don't necessarily have to be evil, but I often find deceiving geniuses make the most interesting moves; they're just so much fun to watch. Examples: Yagami Raito (Death Note), Kid the Phantom Thief (Detective Conan).

2) Tormented, introverted leading roles (as cliche as it may sound). I think it might be their enigmatic dark pasts and interesting background stories. I also find that they are usually the ones with the most depth and conflicted feelings, which is why I usually am able to symphatize with them. I'm a sucker for tragedies, so this is to be expected. Examples: Sasuke (Naruto), Zero (Vampire Knight), Eyes Rutherford (Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna).

3) Upbeat smarties. I adore hyperactive/energetic characters who use their brains. Examples: Shujin (Bakuman), Waya (Hikaru no Go), Gokudera Hayato (Hitman Reborn).

4) Nonsensical, "wth?!"-kind of randomly hilarious characters. Examples: All Gintama characters, the Host Club members (Ouran).
