I started reading this a long time ago, but they suddenly stopped releasing it (S^3 scanlation). I'm glad someone scanlated it after all this time. There are 9 raw volumes out so far. I liked what I read (first 3 chapters). BTW, there's also an anime coming out for this, but it's by GONZO (and it has Hisashi Hirai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=8024) too, BLERGH). So I'm gonna stick with the manga instead.

found it hard to get into because I immediately hated the main character

haha. you mean when he was getting his ass kicked or afterwards when he became an overconfident punk?

both

mostly afterwards

I'll probably try it again, I only read the first 5 chapters or so. I'm sure he'll become more likeable eventually, probably even soon.

art is sweet, mechs are sweet looking, and even though I might not appreciate some of the mech fantasy elements others would because I"m not a huge fan, pretty sure this manga has them. Seems pretty well written and seems to be hitting all the mech fantasy angles you usually see

so, yeah. Probably shouldn't have even responded lol

Yea I didn't really like him much either, your prediction is right, he does get more likeable. Number one reason you should read this manga: Kizaki

Kizaki was awesome, but I've never disliked a main character so much, makes it really hard to read.

main character is a douchebag

kizaki is awesome

even a shinji type character would be more tolerable

Yeah that's the main problem with the manga Hayase is too much of an ass in the first volume for you to enjoy it and the absence of the linebarrel doesn't help either. I assure you though it does get better at the start of volume 2.

I was at first thrilled that this was getting an anime but when I found out it was being done by Gonzo, the fact that the mechas where going to be 3D and becuase of the director only having experince directing Pokemon i praticaly gave up hope. I mean the anime has such a bad team working on it, I mean it really is no wonder Gonzo is having Financial problems when they have a series full of potential like Linebarrels and they make a complete fuck up like this. Granted Tetsuya Kakihara is doing Hayase's voice which is a bonus for me as he did the voice of Simon in Gurren Laggan.

After having watched the traier though it might not be as bad as I thought, it certainitly looks good, the CGI isn't half bad, Hisashi Hirai has manged not to butcher the orginal Character designs and it looks like the anime may not follow the plot too closely which is a good thing considering the first volume but how the staff fares on original episodes remains to be seen. The fact that 'Ode to joy' was playing in the trailer though made me :/ as it was clearly trying to make an allusion to Evangelion.

It's just that Gonzo don't have a history of making memorable animes and the fact that they did such a bad job with 'pumpkin scissors' which, like Linebarrels was a perfectly good manga, dissapoints me.
