Look at this side of the story.
I am shure that WoW will get better, as we are paying for it.
Guildwars probeply won't get better. And can you see yourself playing a game thats maybe the same in 2 years. WoW probly wil get upgraded every6 months or so. (just Guessing)

If your looking for a team game go for GW, if you wanna play solo with some team quests then go for WoW, personally i like WoW better because i like playing alone alot.

Hey everyone, I got a big problem cause I have now saved up enough money to buy either guild wars or world of warcraft. The problem is that I can only afford one and I really can't choose so I hope u guys can help me out by voting in this poll. Thanks! :smile-big
It's a matter of taste, because if you check it out, Guild Wars is not exactly a MMORPG. But it does have free online play, so unless you'd still have money problems after getting it, I'd go with Guild Wars. I might get it within the next two weeks as well.
However, WoW is the most highly played online RPG, and many of the hardcore fans don't care about the cost for online play. It's got many users playing already, so it's got a lot going for it.
I'd say Guild Wars, but it's a tough one.

Well WOW has problems at the moment and a very immature community. I would wait till they get at least an expansion under their belt before jumping in. ( i played the game for about 4 to 5 months)
Guild wars well its cool and free if u dont want to pay monthly charges go with guild wars its an exciting game but i dont think its a game that will last very long ( meaning years) cause of content unless they release expansions or something.

Well if you dont mind paying $15 a month which will probably turn into $180 if your planning to play for a year than i would go for WOW only because the gameplay seems like it could get you hooked.
However I go for GW its free they will have a free update every few months (1st one coming july) also they plan to come out with many expansions since its free and all they have to make money somehow. The big thing about GW is PvP so if your into that then thats another plus for picking GW.

I suggest getting Guild Wars because its just as good as WOW(at least I think so) and it has no monthly fee.

I have both and personally play WOW alot more often than GW. They just added Battlegrounds which has CTF and a sort of capture the structure game. The new PvP system is AWESOME. B asically everything about that game is worth the monthly fee, there is a reason you have to pay for it and not guild wars. However Guild Wars is not a bad game at all, and since you sound short on cash you are prolly gunna spring for that. IMO WoW is alot better but you can't go wrong with guild w ars. Either way have fun man!

Guildwars probeply won't get better. And can you see yourself playing a game thats maybe the same in 2 years.
That's not true at all. Guild Wars has weekly updates and they introduce new areas every once in a while, they do extensive experimenting as to which updates to put in the game and they actually listen to fans (via forums). Also, expansion packs come out every 6 - 9 months and they include the amount of content of the original game (it'll keep you busy).
There are several different PvP zones and new builds and strategies are being discovered everyday.
Guild Wars has a lot going for it - so don't knock it until you try it.

granted i'm bringing this thread back from the dead.
but... now that all the people that got bored of PvE (player vs Enviroment) have dropped out, Player vs Player is where its at. if you like competition and playing as a team to defeat another team, then guild wars is good. guild wars has hadded a couple of new areas for those that like to kill monsters more then other players. Alot of people were scared that no upgrades b/c of no monthly fees.
But b/c no monthly fees their is a lack of maturity from some ppl. that its droped off alot.
wow was just a little bit too cookie cutter for me, if i wanted to play a mmorpg and pay for it i'd have stuck with RR Online, by gravity.

Neither, get City of Heroes (don't forget the expansion, City of Villains)
As a smurf-looking hero said in EGM:
Hero: Plus, when you join the smurf alliance, you can smurf your smurfing smurf off without the GMs bothering you about foul language. Smurf-sucking sons of smurfs!

lvling in WoW is this easiest i ever seen in an MMORPG. the overall game is easy. the content basically sucks right now. Ppl say give it time but u know what? WoW was suppose to revoultionize MMORPGs but it did not it should have alot more than what it did opon release comparing this to games like EQ or eq2 for that fact thoase games are more challaging and more fun / worth ur 15 a month.
sorry i do not like paying 15 bucks a month for an easy game/ broken classes/ and no content for players lvl 30 to 55. Freaking eq 1 had more content then WoW did when it first released and that was over 6 years ago...
plus Wow has the most immature community i have EVER seen in a MMORPG.. O well i know alot of subcribers droped from the game a few months later. still has over 3 million worldwide but they lost over 1 million ppl and thats a crap load IMO. Blizzard should make more danm melee classes for the game and fix their current classes.... sorry Wow is defintly not worth my time. plus one other thing i hate the instant (spells) save my ass buttons in wow as well.

I go with the vote that said Get City of Heroes (Or villains, now that the Beta has gone full for all those that pre-order the game, and that is basically just 5 bucks if you want to just give it a quick try out). It has an even higher Party Quality then just about any MMO other then maybe FFXI, and has a very nice balance with all its classes, and has very good customization (Best Character Creation I have ever seen in my life). Not to mention if your a comic fan, a monthly CoH comic is sent to your house each month. PVP wise, the game is finally working out everything about the PVP element, and with villains coming out now they will have a full on PVP combat element between Villains and Heroes (not including the already made battle domes that have finally been debugged). Only problem with the game really is it doesn't have all the jobs you would normally worry about (Blacksmith, Leather worker, ect.). But with the villains update you can also make bases and the what not for yourself, and work on eaither taking over the game and making alliances with other villains, or being a hero and stopping the big bad villain (which could very well be yourself).
<_< Well I stated my case on all of this. I play WoW, and I do agree that depending on the server you are on, there can be A LOT of immature people, but that goes to say for other MMO's as well. The PVP in WoW is very good at least, and the world itself looks great. I vote WoW but over all if you want an MMORPG and like Super Heroes/Comics, go CoH or CoV

guild wars used to be fun back in beta for me when i could get my friends to play it, but now that most of the people in there i dont know, it just doesnt seem nearly as fun.
i had a lot of fun with WoW, ive cancelled my subscription twice now simply to wait for new content to come out but it was a very fun game if you managed to find a guild with good people in it (i dont mean good interms of how good they are at the game, but in terms of what kind of people they are)
wow takes the cake by a long shot for me but the monthly fees really stack up after a year :/

private servers are often highly unstable, not very good with updates, have issues with lag, countless bugs, and are also highly illegal
if you dont mean private servers then...
getting guild wars from a friend, or playing wow on a friends account... i suppose you could play for a while but you'd eventually have to give back the game, for wow, probably before you got to explore all of it

Some don't see this as that bad of a thing, but in my eyes its bad when devs tell you flat out that they are down grading all of the player abilities but have no plans to lower enemy strength.

yea i know its new but SWG had more conetent on its release then WOW did... After all the years of MMORPG's that been released u think they would finnaly get these things right?
Wow= to easy and for casual players. The PVP system in it is basically the only good thing about it. but PVPing all the time gets rather old.

Definetly WoW. Even though the monthly pay was a bit inconvient, it had many missions and side stories to adventure. Guild War really even isn't considered an authentic MMORPG. The towns are the only place where you interact with others (Or if you add them to your party). I have both, but I just perfer WoW over GW.

Both are good in both ways. If ur poor, play Guildwars. If ur willing to pay a to play a good game, play WoW. But if both are the same price, i'd go with WoW. So i choose WoW

It really doesn't have to do with being poor. Besides, the monthly pay isn't all that much (30.00 a month I think).

World of Worldcraft I guess, Guild Wars I'm not feeling Guild Wars Battle Mode and etc.
warning: Do not purchase WoW if you attend college/University or being the last year of High School, or have a family to tend to, for the reason that this game is more addictive then chronic...
World of Warcraft....no competition...
Telling you from 6 months of experiance..both low level and high level content..40 man raids or 5 man hit run..w/e your style, this game always caters to your needs..Playing this game, you gain a certain essence and uniqueness that you can never feel with any other MMRPGs..I can honestly say, that my characters felt like seond skin..like legends..(RIP Cronus of Illidan of clan DIE)...Trust me man....go with WoW...you will NOT be dissapointed...
But heres the catch...in both games....the starting areas will be dull and empty and may seem boring(since your buying the game so late)...soo no people to group with during quests..But once you get past a certain level you wont have any trobule finding clans..I played WoW when it came out...so all the starting areas were full up...so it was a breeze making friends and making clans.
...WoW is something like youve never played before.....

Even though ive never played WoW, GW is pretty cool. it can get boring though, if you let yourself not play for a week(somehow) then youll lose the addiction. i cant say the same for WoW, although it DOES look fun.
plus Wow has the most immature community i have EVER seen in a MMORPG..
due to retarted little kids posting on the forum...but if ur talking about servers...server transfers will solve your prob...Every server has its random grp of assholes...you have to learn to deal with it...regardless..

Content? all the content is at lvl 60 their is hardLY ANY content in between 20 to 50..... HEck their are way better mmorpgs out their then WoW at the current moment. Everquest one had more content when it first release and thats pretty sad considering the game came out in 99.
People think WoW is great for a few reasons. 1 . no death penelty and 2 it's easy as cake to lvl etc... Sorry but this game was geared down alot hardcore gamers would get bored of this one quick .. and many have.
Also Wow is like watching DBZ all u see is freaking beams and casters .. they have 3 count them 3! melee classes and warriors STILL suck compared to palidens and rouges... All this game reminds me of is diablo 2 on a huge sever with 10k ppl on it... why would i want to hunt the same aera for epic drops? EPICS are suppose to be unquie and great items not doing the same riad over and over to get one.. No story of cool quest behind them at alll .. SEriously that pissed me off to the max..
I stated why this game is not as GREAT as everyone think it is and if i have to again i will. but since we are comparing to guild wars only then it does not bother me much . but if this was a Wow is the best MMORPG thread ever.. then people are Fanboys of blizzard/ warcraft that or cannot even tell that the game has alot of faults.. also do not give me this it just came out crap they wil lfix bugs etc.. its been over 10 years! since mmorpgs first arrived they could have done way better.

I will say WoW. But it's a little more like, if you start WoW it's hard to come out of it to go into a different MMORPG, or so it is for me. I did try guild wars but the whole feel and look to it, was too different for me. I do own it, and I am playing it on occasion saving it for when I really will need something to play. But with just having bought CoD2, Tenkaichi , and CoV coming on the 31st, it's getting bumped way down there. But as far as the games themselves, WoW is a bit more engaging. Lots of neat stuff to do, fun gfx, fun battles, overall better than most MMORPGS i've played.

wrong! and more WRONG?......tell me your definition of content?....quests?...things to do?...tradeskills?...instances?....were does WoW lack in content from lvl20 to lvl50?
Maybe if you actually played the game...melee classes have been buffed quite well now....warriors are not prone to roots and freezes as they were before...all classes are well balanced now...You say Wow is all beams and made up of casters and such?....when in truth..every month melee get new weapons with new effects....casters get what? more clothes and staff with more int and stam...go play the game...
Your saying WoW lacks hardcore content?...then wtf is molten core and blackwing lair?..those instances are 6+ hours to complete, and even times at which people go 10+ hours into instances just to have all their armour broken.....Too fast leveling up?...WoW is designed to please a wide range of people...they dont soley focus on a single group of player type.....get a clue as to why their soo succesfull...
Rare items are something to be proud of...their supposed to represent your accomplishment as well as make you stronger...How would you feel if some random noob found purple item by killing off a random bunny in the forest?
Lack of Story? go to Dawrf Capital and hit the library...they have enough books to keep you busy..

^ U must play alot of other MMORPG's then compare. i played 7 in the past and WoW does not stack up..
The population of WoW IS CASTERS a the majority IS CASTERS .
Wow's quest system freaking blows and its boring. It needs work .
3 melee classes 3! WTF? thats pethetic... Druids are also considered Primary healers if they go up their restoration tree and what not. THATS BS. basically almost nulfiles Presits in a way.
RAre items yea they are but its FREAKING stupid when ur best items ( epics) in the game drop off on mobs in a single or 2 places. THats bull shit i perfer a nice epic quest system and a little adventure to obtain these epic peices.. Not some Bull shit raid drop and u can get that one peice in that zone.
Yes the story sucks... Alot of warcraft fans where disipointed with it. Compared to other MMORPGS they have better.. Expecially Final Fantasy 11.
What i mean about the content from 20 to 50 its SUCKS big time. Mainly because of the quest system witch needs improving on.
Also the Instant spells = bull shit.
why are they successfull ? do u really need me to tell you why? Blizzard and warcraft .. The name and all the little kiddies coming along.. Ur not going to tell me out of the 10 years of MMORPGS over 5 million just picked up Wow...Their was never a population that high in MMORPG history. basically it took an MMORPG to beat Everquest's popularity ( not game though ) . ALOT of the crowed from WoW came from Previous blizzard games .. Diablo 2, warcraf 1 , 2 ,3 etc. and we all know how the community is on those games. ALOT OF them came to WoW. true their are nice people and stuff but HOLY SHIT their are alot of little assholes around. Compared to any other mMORPG Wow has the worst community ever... Also blizzard also lost over 1 million players from their game back a few months ago cause of these issues. and thats a shit load of people.

Eh, not really a matter if you're poor. Anet has nerfed alot of things to create balance to the game. From what I hear, there isn't much to do in WoW after you're, pretty much, max level. Also, the pvp isn't even balanced in WoW. Moreover, GW isn't as much of a storyline as much as it is GvG and PvP. I'm still into that, not as much as I used to be. I needed a break from the game, but I guess it figures since I've been playing since E3 Alpha. But yeah, the game is not that easy with all of the competition in it. So it's really up to you.

As much as i like both games, I depends on how indepth you want your game to be. Guild wars is based on lvls and WoW has more a do whatever you want type gameplay. If your a begginer in morpgs (mass online role play games) I would like playing Guild wars, Vise Versa for WoW. In all Ithink i like Wow because of it's roaming capabilities

Defenitly World of Warcraft I have been playing it for months now since March this year so I have several characters on differend servers but mostly play on Draenor wich is my first server ever.
anyway I just love this Fantasy better then any other ones :amuse
and don't forget the bad ass WoW expansion that's coming up. Even more of a reason to play.
Well the good looking horde race (blood elves) is only being putted in with good intends to try rebalance horde vs ally in mostly USA servers since there it's like 60 to 80% allies :s
Still, lvl cap of 70 and the chance of getting flying mounts wins a thousand internets \o/
