Ok, well after looking around seems not too many people are into emulation on this board, but just to see if I'm right or wrong, I decided to make this poll.
What's your favorite Japanese fan translated RPG? Could be any platform, but since I'm not very familiar with much outside of SNES (then again translation doesn't spread too far away from SNES anyway) they will be mostly SNES. Feel free to post others though.
Here's mine: Seiken Densetsu III, or Secret of Mana "2" if you will. It's on my list of all time top RPGs period. The replay value is great with different endings and final bosses depending on what team you pick. The graphics are phenomenal as far as SNES goes. The music is fantastic, characters are memorable, gameplay is pretty well done, the class system is one of the items that sets this over the top though. So many possibilities with this game, my most replayed RPG other than Chrono Trigger.
A special mention should go for Final Fantasy III for NES, the best NES RPG for me.

It's the best graphic RPG from SNES. The story also was great, it had 3 diffrent ending depending the characters you chose, the 3 diffrent sets of bosses too and the class level system was marvelous. Also the story line was very intresting.
Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean... just cuz they always been long and interesting..

SD3 for sure... Bahamut Lagoon and ToP are top favorites of mine as well.
Didn't liked SO that much, I've played SO2 before and was very hyped with the translation and all, overrated game IMHO.

Hm... if you're counting Action/Rpgs than Terranigma no contest(though it wasn't fan translated just Pal version used). Out of the ones you mentioned though, I'd say Star Ocean or Tales of Phantasia.

No fuckin doubt! I loved this game like crazy. Makes me wonder what woulda happened had Square had just waited for this game instead of making that piece of shit Secret of Evermore:mad
Tales of Phantasia is 2nd, and Star Ocean is a close third.
