139: Terror! Orochimaru's Mansion

140: Two Beats, Kabuto's Trap
Sakura shakes in front of Orochimaru. But, thinking of Sasuke, she pulls herself together and asks about Sasuke's whereabouts. Then, she hears from Kabuto that Sasuke got the curse seal to wait for Orochimaru's next chance to use his Tensei.

141: Sakura's Decision
Naruto refuses to believe the story that Sasuke is dead and draws closer to Arashi. Arashi tries to kill Naruto, but Sasame stops it. But for Arashi, the old Arashi is dead and this is a body made to live by Ninpou...

142: Three Villains of the Well-Guarded Facility

I couldn't resist.

On Sasame's guidance, Naruto, Sakura and Jiraiya reach Orochimaru's hideout. Jiraiya uses Kuchiyose to summon Gamakichi as a lookout. Following Gamakichi, the group go through winding stairs and long passages. Before long, they reach a place where the way branches into three. They decide to split into two groups, Naruto+Sakura, and Jiraiya.
Naruto and Sakura go along the passages, dodging traps of spears and shuriken. While Naruto's saving Sakura from a pit, the momentum causes him to fall as well. Confident that Naruto'll catch up, Sakura decides to hurry ahead.
Meanwhile, Jiraiya meets a koto princess playing a koto(Japanese harp). Her instructions from Orochimaru are to "Entertain the visitors who have come from a long way away"...

Sakura is cornered by Orochimaru. Then when Kabuto aims a kunai at Sakura, Naruto comes running.
Naruto plays around with Kabuto with the Kage Bunshin, and makes him use up his kunai. Kabuto returns fire with Katon Kirimai (Fog Dance), which makes Naruto's clones turn to smoke and disappear. But Naruto's rasengan smashes through Kabuto's chest and he wins.
Naruto asks about Sasuke's whereabouts. But Kabuto just smiles. While Naruto was attacking, Kabuto made a string of chakra coil around his body.

Y'know, I completely forgot to do this.


"The Arashi from before is dead," says Arashi, and half of a spider's body grows out, along with a beetle's. Then, Naruto protects Sakura from an attack, but is caught by the beetle's pincers from behind.
Naruto takes the injury and pretends to be stoic, and uses a Kage Bunshin in return. But, he is gradually cornered. Then Arashi sets up a Fuuma Ninpou, Cursed Binding Mandala. This is a secret jutsu passed down from generation to generation to the head of Fuuma clan, and none but they can use it. Naruto is caught up in Arashi's chakra cage...

Aiming to become a medical ninja, Sakura practises precise chakra control. Meanwhile, recovering from injury, the eager Naruto gets sulky because Jiraiya's been sent off on an urgent mission. While he's away, Jiraiya gives Naruto the special independent training of looking after a scroll.
In the Hokage office, working on a huge pile of documents, Tsunade (plus group) sees data on a Konoha strict correctional facility. It's a facility which houses criminal ninja, where the prisoners are doing digging work...

Using Tonton's sense of smell, Shizune (plus people, I hate it when they don't say who) chases after Mizuki, who's broken out of the jail. But Mizuki, along with Fuujin and Raijin, defeats Shizune.
In the Konoha Hospital, Naruto, who had figured that Orochimaru was mixed up in the Mizuki affair, headed for Tsunade. Tonton returned to there too. He was desperately trying to convey something. Naruto picked up on Shizune's crisis, and without going to tell Tsunade, said "I'll rescue Shizune, defeat Orochimaru, and bring back Sasuke", and ran out.

144: New Rebirth, Three-Man Team, Two Humans, One Animal!

Naruto's technique doesn't work on Fuujin and Raijin, who possess great strength and great stupidity. So Naruto uses his Kage Bunshin as a tactical lure, to buy time. Then the "Strongest Trio" appears to Naruto.
Meanwhile, Iruka gets closer to Mizuki. While avoiding Mizuki's kunai, Iruka continues trying to persuade him to "stop the foolish imitation of the Konoha family who all inherit the same will of fire". But Mizuki truly plans to defeat Iruka...

145: Explosion! New Formation, InoShikaChou

Shikamaru trapped Fuujin and Raijin's movements. Naruto's happy to find out that Tsunade requested Shikamaru to go and help Naruto. Along with Chouji and Ino, Shikamaru says that he'll handle Fuujin and Raijin, and tells Naruto to hurry on ahead.

145: Explosion! New Formation, InoShikaChou

While Naruto was having trouble with Fuujin and Raijin, Shikamaru, Ino and Chouji arrived. The three were sent by Tsunade, so Naruto and Pakkun could continue after Mizuki.
While Shikamaru halted Fuujin and Raijin's movements with his Kage Mane, Ino took over Fuujin with her Shintenshin and Chouji grappled with Raijin. In this way, they completed the "Formation, InoShikaChou".
Meanwhile, Iruka was using blood-stained bamboo leaves to follow Mizuki. But using genjutsu and puppets, Mizuki taunts him with diverse techniques from a height...

146: Leftover Ambitions, Orochimaru's Shadow

Naruto knows that Tsubaki is Mizuki's fiancee. Tsubaki wants to get Mizuki back, and asks Naruto to be able to go with them to get him. Tsubaki has an idea of where Mizuki is headed. Mizuki, who tried to steal the Seal Scroll, talked about "getting the power of Orochimaru, going to him". Naruto is surprised to hear Mizuki's true objective.
Meanwhile, Mizuki appears in the medicine research room in the Nara's deer farm. He attacks the researchers, steals medicine and gets away. Tsunade hears about this, and reads a medicine book to understand what Mizuki's up to. Before long, she recalls something...


Also, for those who didn't really catch it before, the 147 special is an hour and a half long.

Mizuki's fiancee, Tsubaki, appears to Naruto and Iruka and wants to help pursue him. Meanwhile, Mizuki breaks into the Nara's pharmaceutical research facility. To mix up a secret medicine he was taught a long time ago by Orochimaru, he takes the ingredients and escapes.

Naruto and Iruka are overwhelmed by the amount and power of the chakra Mizuki releases. Naruto faces him with the Kage Bunshin, but is kicked away by Mizuki. Finally, to protect Naruto, Iruka takes out a kunai.
In the middle of the fierce fight, an accident happens to Mizuki's body and it transforms into a form like a tiger man. Mizuki was powered up, but Iruka senses that speed weakening...

148: Super Pursuit Power Even Akamaru Is Jealous Of! Seek The Mysterious Bikouchuu

In Konoha, Kiba, Shino and Hinata are called by the Hokage, to tell them of her idea of using the "Bikouchuu" to seek Sasuke. The Bikouchuu has the sense of smell of a thousand ninja dogs and follows a scent to any origin. It seems the Aburame clan used them a long time ago, but now it's a mysterious bug of which only a few are left. They only lay eggs once in many years, and she says that now is the incubation period. Kiba, Shino and Hinata, along with Naruto who overheard the conversation, are ordered by the Hokage to track down the Bikouchuu.

Naruto, Kiba and Shino are driven into the queen's nest by the group from the clan of the Stone. Trapped in the honey wax of the angry queen bee, the group cannot move. But Shino declares firmly that they won't hand over the Bikouchuu unless Hinata is traded. As the incubation period draws closer, Suzumebachi decides to accept Shino's demand.
They all head to where Hinata is being kept. But there is no sign of Hinata there. Naruto is enraged, and goes to attack Jibachi and the others...

152: Requiem for the Living

The Katabami gold mine in River Country has been taken over by a group of bandits known as the "Kurokuwa Family". It is said that their atrocities bring daily suffering to the miners. A new team consisting of Naruto, Lee, Neji and Tenten have been sent to remove the family. Gaia (misspelling of Gai?) brings surprising information: the leader of the bandits, Raiga, is one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen.

153: Reach the Heart! Iron Fist of Love

One of the mission clients, Rokusuke, has been captured by the Kurokuwa Family. To rescue him, Naruto's group enters the Katabami gold mine and learns the terrifying true face of the notorious boss, Raiga. And...what is the true nature of the terrible ritual Raiga carries out....?

154: Natural Enemy of the Byakugan

Naruto's group have entered the Katabami gold mine. But an unexpected deep fog rolls in, and they are trapped by the thunder that Raiga uses, and a mysterious technique that even baffles the Byakugan. One by one, the Konoha team is taken out. When they are all defeated, standing up like a phoenix is the form of the [Beautiful] Green Beast.

In Konoha, while training, Naruto rescues Rokusuke, Hachidai and Sangorou from water rapids. The three say that they have come to Konoha from the Katabami gold mine in River Country to request a mission. Katabami gold mine is the prominent mining village, and there a group of bandits calling themselves the Kurokuwa Family have entered the village, claiming to be its protectors. They say that the Kurokuwa Family, led by Raiga, control the village and kill villagers without reason.
Tsunade appoints Naruto, Lee, Neji and Tenten on a mission to escort the three home and remove the Kurokuwa Family. It seems to be a simple mission, but there is a rumor that the Kurokuwa Family's boss, Raiga, is one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen...

155: Dark Clouds' Silent Approach

The Kurosuki Family is scattered, and it seems peace has returned to the Katabami goldmine. But, Karashi has an expression which implies he's planning something. Before long, a great number of Kurosuki hiding on the top of a cliff launch a surprise attack on Naruto's team with a big boulder.
The Kurosuki group use Ninpou - Kuro Tatsumaki, and with iron claws that can cut even stone, one by one they attack. While avoiding that, Naruto's group return fire, but...

156: Counterattacking Raiga

Raiga is revived by Ranmaru infusing chakra into him. Raiga takes out his anger and sorrow at losing Ranmaru on the Konoha ninjas. Raiga, Naruto, Lee and Neji are again caught up in the mountain pass devastated by a storm. Pushing their chakra to the limits, Naruto's group start to be overpowered by Raiga, who uses the power of nature.

157: Run!!! Curry of Life

Naruto's group are caught in a predicament. But, armed with the Curry of Life, Tenten's group appears. Ranmaru's plea of "Let's end this" was ignored by Raiga. When Ranmaru, as Raiga's sensory instrument, developed his own will, the "two as one" between them was broken.

158: Everyone, Come With Me! Great Sweat and Tears Survival Plan

At a proposal from Tsunade, the genin are sent to lead Academy pupils on one-night two-day outdoor training. Naruto's team ends up being the 3-man team of the Konohamaru Corps.

160: Take Or Be Taken?! Showdown at the OK Corral

Naruto's group is looking after the injured Sazanami. The group knows the deep connection between Sazanami and Gosunkugi, but they could not give up the mission given to them as ninjas. Meeting up with Gosunkugi, the spirits of the ninja and bounty hunter clash. In the end, who is it that will arrest Gosunkugi...?

(Normally at this point, I'd do the longer TV Tokyo summary for it, but it's on tomorrow, so no point.)

161: A Welcome Visitor Arrives, Green Beast? Wild Animal? ....Bizarre Beast?

As Gai and Lee are leaving the village, two impersonators enter the village disguised as them. Because it's a bad disguise, Kakashi sees through it immediately, but Tsunade lets them go, deciding that nobody would be fooled. However, Naruto is completely taken in by the disguise, and earnestly requests to train with the fake Gai and Lee.

162: White Cursed Warrior

A ghost called the "Cursed Warrior" is causing trouble around the castle town in the Bird Country. By request from Chishima of the Bird Country, Tsunade reluctantly takes on an unprecendented ghost-busting mission. For this mission, she chooses Naruto, Neji, Lee and Tenten. It seems that the true form of the Cursed Warrior is Oowashi, the sddenly-deceased previous daimyo...

163: Koumei the Machinator's Expectations

An antagonism between the Daimyo's Protector, Mousou, and the Machinator, Koumei, rises to the surface in the Bird Country. Neji feels worried about the conspiracy hidden in the "Cursed Warrior", and tries to meet with the current daimyo, Sagi.

172: Despair, Torn Hearts

According to Amachi, the medical ninja who assisted Orochimaru, the attack on the money ship has begun. The Konoha group escape Kikai-jima and chase after Amachi's group. However, the Sea Country fleet is already on the verge of being destroyed. The Konoha ninjas and Amachi's group begin their battle around the money ships. Isaribi, who had her body remodeled in Orochimaru's experiment, wants to have her body returned to normal by Amachi, so she challenges Naruto.


173: Sea Battle, Released Power

Amachi is defeated thanks to Naruto, but the battle with the immortal summon, the sea monster, remains. To defeat the sea monster, Naruto summons Gamabunta.


174: No Waaaay! Celebrity Ninpou: Kinton Jutsu

The richest man in Konoha, the jeweller Kunijirou, is despairing over his daughter Kunihisa, who cares only about money. He consults with Tsunade, who assigns Naruto to spend a day with her and show her what it's like being a ninja. Naruto tries to get her to help with his Genin tasks, but Kunihisa pays her escorts to take care of him.

(Note: The title is a pun. Kinton is, like Katon and Suiton, one of the five elemental types associated with the ninja. However, the kanji also means "money", which applies to this episode.)


175: Dig Here! Woof! Woof! Search for Buried Treasure

Naruto, Kiba and Hinata have been given a mission to search for buried treasure. Tsunade tells them that if they fail, they'll be sent back to the Academy. Under the pressure that they can't fail under any circumstances, the group heads off to find buried treasure.

176: Dash, Stray, Zigzag Run! Chase, Chased, Mistaken

Naruto's group, searching for the buried treasure, has been ensnared in the Kedouin clan's trap. The Kedouin clan pose as Naruto's group and infiltrate Konoha. Naruto's group hurry after them, and it turns into a pursuit battle between real and fakes.


177: OH?! Please Mr Postman

Naruto, on the way back from a mission, stops in at a hot spring village and finds Jiraiya. Naruto gets angry that since Jiraiya has free time he should be training Naruto, but Jiraiya is on a deadline for his manuscript. He says that if it gets done soon, he'll make time for training. Naruto waits, but starts to lose his temper when there's no sign of it finishing. Naruto decides to imitate Jiraiya and make his own manuscript, entrusting it to a courier ninja, who is a professional postman.


178: Encounter, The Boy with the Name of Hoshi (Star)

A bodyguard request for a "star" comes from the Hidden Star Village in Bear Country. It seems that the star is a meteorite that fell 200 years ago and has a mysterious power. Naruto and Neji's team are sent as bodyguards, and meet the client, a boy ninja named Sumaru, at the valley border. Naruto empathises with Sumaru, who says he is aiming to be Hoshikage in the future.


179: Natsuhiboshi (Summer day's star), Remembered Lullaby

The user of Kujaku Myouhou, a special ninja art passed down in the Star Village, has taken the star. Naruto's group begin an investigation based on the fact that the thief must be related to the village. During this, Naruto unexpectedly finds out about Sumaru's dark past.


Name Notes:
Sumaru is another word for Subaru, which is the star cluster Pleiades in Japanese.
Kujaku Myouhou literally means "peacock mystery", but it is a wordplay on "Kujaku Myouou", which is the Buddhist Mayuri Vidya-raja, or "holder of the mantras".

Good news:
The fillers are officially over. 183 is the end of part 1, and we'll have a week off followed by a 1-hour special of 184-185 Kakashi Gaiden. Then ANOTHER week off, then 186 is the official start of part 2.

Bad news:
You all know that the start of part 2 in the manga had Sakura drooling about maturity. Well, Naruto will mature.

Voice actor change.
Yep, Takeuchi Junko will no longer be voicing Naruto. I don't have confirmation on the new voice yet, but I'll get it out to you all ASAP.

While Naruto's training in the forest, a strange creature clings on to his back which he can't get off. Tsunade speculates that it must be the legenday "Onbaa". Once it sticks on to you, you can't get it off till it's an adult. The fully-grown Onbaa grows to 3 metres, and to make matters worse it has a ferocious personality and great strength.

Naruto and Shino are escorting Fuuts, the next in line to head the Kagetsu* clan. Even though Fuuta will inherit all assets from the late head, a special condition is attached: He must not smile in his seat at the funeral.

Note: This could also mean "laughing", the Japanese don't differentiate the two. But smiling makes more sense in the context.

Meanwhile, with Haruna in tow, Hinata waits for Naruto's group, but Haruna says "Hurry, take me to a safe place!"

Renga begins to talk to Haruna, who is protecting the weakened Naruto, about a certain connection that goes back 20 or more years ago.

Ino is picked for a mission by the daimyo's daughter. Her task is to go to a wedding meeting* in place of the princess, who has been getting fat from eating too much. *This is a concept that's tied in with the arranged marriages that happen within royalty. The couple, even though they're already betrothed, meet for the first time.

An old carpenter who got on well with Naruto, Gennou, stole plans for important facilities in Konoha. A long time ago, he worked as a ninja specialising in traps, but one day he went on a suicide mission. But since the plans were never found, Tsunade warns that whoever employed him may be planning an invasion of Konoha. While most of the ninjas in Konoha are sent for border defense, Tsunade gathers a team of 11, with Shikamaru as the leader, to remain in the village and search for the missing plans.

To find Gennou's objective, an Anbu hypnotises Naruto to regress him back, but they can't find what they're looking for. Meanwhile, Shikamaru, who is following Gennou's footprints, finds a strange inconsistency.

The Strongest Backing

Naruto's group are speechless at the amount of exploding tags concealed in Konoha. The group begin to work to disable the tags without Gennou's knowledge, but there are not enough people and the progress is too slow. The old ninja, Homura and Koharu, appear to help. The two conclude that by the type of jutsu, the tags must have been concealed a very long time ago.

Shikamaru has analysed Gennu's movements, and reslises that all of the traps up until now have been a diversion. While everyone is busy with the traps, the real plan is to destroy the mountain behind them and bury everyone alive. Can Naruto's group stop Gennou's plans for the destruction of Konoha?!

Labyrinth Forest

Due to the Shinobazu's attack, Naruto, Todoroki and Gantetsu are separated from
the escort team. The three head through the forest to reach the capital, but
this is the "Labyrinth Forest", which skews humans' sense of direction. Gantatsu
says that the Shinobazu's base is also in the forest, and mentions that he knows
the way. But Naruto and Todoroki don't believe Gantatsu, since he's one of them.
Gantatsu then shows torture scars on his body from when he tried to steal money
from the Shinobazu.

Memories of Fire

Todoroki is a survivor of a family that was wiped out by the Shinobazu long ago.
When he has his little brother's enemy, Gantatsu, in front of him he starts to
rage and almost kills him. Naruto stops him but when he's holding him back, the
Shinobazu take their chance to kidnap Gantatsu. Elsewhere, Sakura and Lee are
surrounded by mysterious boys and girls who demand that they return Gantatsu to
them.

Everyone's Paths

Todoroki discovers that his little brother Akio is alive. While Gantatsu was a
member of the Shinobazu clan, he hid away the children of the houses that were
attacked, and raised them. But Akio is taken away from the Shinobazu's base, and
Naruto's group go to find him based on Gantatsu's information.

Anyway, when Part 2 starts, the series will change its title to ナルト：疾風伝, which reads Naruto: Shippuu-den, and translates vaguely to Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles.
The creators have stated that this new title comes from the revelation that Naruto is a wind-element user.

When will this new series start, you ask? Good question.
First things first, Japan tracks seasons using solstices and equinoxes as mid-seasons. So spring officially starts on th 3rd of February.
Also, new info has also been released about the Naruto card game. It starts a new revision with Part 2 characters and a whole new set of rules to coincide with the new series. The starter sets for this new series go on sale on the 15th of February, which is also a Thursday, which is when Naruto airs. Coincidence? We'll see.

Also, there's a Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles movie announced for next summer.

Apologies for lack of updates lately, I've had zero free time.

Anyway, episode 220, "Off On Our Journey", is confirmed as the last episode of Naruto, and will air on the 8th of February.
The following week has Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles blasting off with a double episode. According to one of my sources, they're going back to episode 1 for the new series, but that's not 100% confirmed.

In any case, I'll be back with all the HC info you'd ever want in a few weeks when my exams are over.

In the midst of all this, Jiraiya and Naruto return to Konoha from their training journey, Jiraiya bringing top-secret information stating that Akatsuki are beginning to make their move.

Kakashi can sense Naruto and Sakura's development, and decides to use his Sharingan. Sakura, as a medical ninja, has also inherited Tsunade's killer techniques, and she and Naruto chase after Kakashi. Meanwhile, a member of Akatsuki, Deidara, begins to infiltrate the Sand Village.

Jinchuuriki of the Sand

Gaara discovers Deidara's infiltration and the two begin to battle, a fierce air battle with Deidara on a massive bird and Gaara on his sand. All the while, thanks to the machinations of Yuura, a member of the Sand Village who has become Akatsuki's subordinate, the village is thrown into chaos. Meanwhile, in Konoha, Naruto and Sakura's survival test continues. With dawn as their time limit, the two begin to make their strategy.

So I just picked up my Shounen Jump (yay for local convenience stores selling it on Sundays!) and it has an article in it that I thought you all might be somewhat interested in.

Building on the success caused by their team-up at last year's Jump Festa, Kishimoto and Oda, authors of Naruto and One Piece, have decided to make a crossover arc.
This arc will begin at the end of the current arcs in the manga (knowing Naruto and One Piece, this might be a while), and again, knowing One Piece and arcs, I predict maybe two to three volumes. The arc will, of course, be published in the regular Shounen Jump, and each mangaka will draw in their own style and from their character's perspective.
This means that, for example, if Naruto and Luffy meet, then Kishimoto will draw Naruto's events up to this and we'll see all of his scene with Luffy from his perspective with his thoughts, while in the One Piece manga we'll see everything from Luffy's point of view. This idea of dual-perspective has thus far not been attempted in manga, and both authors are very excited about the idea.

More information and plot details will apparently be released in the next few weeks, so sit tight.
