The Question
Do you think there should've been an extra arc before Itachi arrived? Or, that the Naruto Part 1 storyline should've been arranged differently?
The Evidence
What I mean is that I don't think we really got to care for Sasuke that much before he left. In the first 2 arcs, he was relatively the same character other than 2 defining character moments when he 1) Sacrificed himself for Naruto and 2) Said he wanted to fight Naruto too.
Then, during the Konoha Invasion arc, he fought for the first time to save everyone. He was no longer that grumpy "emo" kid, he cared for everyone, including Naruto who was the main person who changed him.
After this, we get a few small friend moments, such as him being in the list of Naruto wants to look after and being there for Naruto to join after the 3rd Hokage's funeral.
Then Itachi arrives and fucks this up, by showing his brother those visions, he reinstates the avenger in Sasuke before leaving.
Then, we saw very little of Sasuke as attention shifts to Naruto and Tsunade, focusing entirely on them. After that, we move straight into Sasuke fighting Naruto, kicking up a tantrum and leaving Konoha.
Then, it's something incredibly emotional as both Naruto and Sakura try to convince Sasuke to stay, showing many moments of them being happy friends together. They argue for their friendship, with the story instating that they've been friends for a long time, without us readers/viewers actually having seen any of this. We're suddenly now told that this boy was a close friend who we should all love, without seeing much evidence other than some montages made for that specific moment in the story.
And then in Shippuuden, it's such an important thing to the characters to get Sasuke back, his name is taboo, and it's such an awfully dramatic thing for them to encounter him again.
The Conclusion
So what I'm wondering is do you think we should've had another arc somewhere before Sasuke becomes an avenger again, or perhaps some more focus showing his mixed feelings of loyalty battling between desire for revenge and desire for friendship, so that then we could really care for him when he leaves and understand his ploy.
I'm just thinking that perhaps, we'd understand the story a little better, and that probably there'd be less "Sasuke = Emo fag" people around if we got to see more of him as a friend who wasn't a sly, cocky dickhead constantly calling out Naruto, or degrading Sakura before he became a violent avenger.
The only time I remember him actually fully cooperating as an equal member of the team was in the Kakashi Mask special episode.
Any thoughts?
