13 years old tennis genius, Ryoma Echizen, returns from America after winning Junior Championships. I haven't read the manga, I nly saw some scans of it. But I start watching the anime fiive weeks ago, I'm at episode 82 right now. I must say I chose this anime on the flow. I didn't know what to expect. But I became addicted immediately :), I especially like the troubled situations the characters get themselfs into. Without those the series would be missing something, just tennis isn't that great.

Some of my favorite characters: Kaidoh (amazing atmosphere when he gets angry) Echizen (just love how he acts cold towards Sakuno, but to much mada mada dane though) Kikumaru (the way he belittles Ryoma, oi chibi!) Karupin ( that cat RULEZ)

Btw, is the manga finished? cause the anime is at 178 I think

Well anime series ended at ep 178. I heard the reason why they stopped making the anime is because it got ahead of the manga and deviated from the storyline too much and that they could not fix it. Don't know if that was true or just a rumor. I have watched up to ep 153 of the anime and I love this series. The filler episodes just are hilarious. Cant wait till somebody subs the movie and the rest of the series.

I've just finished the anime version of prince of tennis, and loved it. So I want to carry on the stroy from the manga, but i heard that the anime contained alot of fillers that was not included in the manga. So can anyone tell me around chapter is the best to lift off from the anime?

Anything in the anime after the match against Rikkaidai Fuzoku isn't in the manga, the anime and manga went off on completely different paths after then(in fact, the Rikkaidai matches themselves are a lot different in the two versions).

Since the thread sort of left off at Genius 308, here's a little summary of 309:

In Genius 308, Tachibana stopped Ishida and Kamio's match against Shitenhouji. The chapter picks up just after than begining with Kintaro griping about Fudomine not finishing any matches. Koharu (the bald kid with glasses) agrees with Kintaro, but says that Kamio is cute. Yuuji (the kid in the bandana and Koharu's double partner) gets jealous. :amuse

Two new characters are introduced. One of Hikaru, the boy with short dark hair who first appeared with the others at the arena where Kintaro first met "Koshimae". He seems to be Shitenhouji's only second year. The other is the Shitenhouji coach, Watanabe something or other. He bears a striking resemblance to Urahara of Bleach except that he's wearing a hat with a large floral pattern that matches his shirt. Shitenhouji is looking more and more like the laid-back hippie school of Japan. :laugh

Anyway, next match is Tachibana against Chitose (his given name is Senri, by the way). Turns out that Chitose was the one who's eye as injured by Tachibana in Kyuushu. There's a little flashback where we see Tachibana with long blond hair -- and an evil smirk on his face -- after he's injured Chitose. There's also a little flashback part with a very cute Ann -- she's wearing pigtails.

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Chitose can use the State of Self-Actualization and busts out with Marui Bunta's "Tightrope Walking" trick. Tachibana goes into scary-serious mode, which kind of freaks everyone out. They play a bit, then Tachibana let's the ball smack him in the eye saying this is his atonement. Tachibana is so freakin' hardcore.I've only found a few scattered summaries for this one, as it just came out in Japan yesterday.

Still in the Singles 2 match... Chitose shows off his new move, a serve called Kami-Kakushi ("spirited away", yes, just like the movie) in which the ball disappears. It's much like Fuji's disappearing serve only it's not an underhand serve. Tachibana sees through it and counterattacks, then Chitose shows that Kami-Kakushi isn't just a service move.

Tachibana's leading in the game (the score is 4-5) and Chitose says that there are three stages beyond the State of Self-Actualization.

It tends to deviate from the manga a lot and kind of plays up (or completely change) some scenes for the sake of the BL fans. :oh Some of that anime tennis can get plain silly (like the Tezuka Zone in the movie), but the chibi episodes are pretty cute. :amuse

Anyway, the anime had this huge annoying arc with Team Japan (composed of characters from various schools) playing against Team America (with a bratty, blonde-haired version of Ryoma). After that the anime ended.

However, there are OVAs being released. Seven I believe. Each containing a number of episodes. The OVAs follow the events at the Nationals. I don't know if they'll ever go beyond that - hell, I don't even know if the manga will go beyond that. After the Nationials are over, there's not really anything big for the team to do. Not to mention that everyone - except Momoshiro, Kaido and Ryoma - is going to graduate.

LOL...well, I'm fine with it. I actually enjoyed the filler arcs which is a rare thing because most anime filler arcs tend to bore me. Phantom Ball was a pretty cool technique for an anime-only technique. I guess he's suddenly going to forget it once the next set of OVA's come out xDD

It turns out that for some reason Sanada had sealed off two of his techniques up until the Tezuka match. In addition to Wind, Fire, Mountain, and Forest, Sanda also has Lightning and Shadow. Lightning is an extremely fast strike which has an irregular path that can strike anywhere supposedly, and shadow is a style of play that is completely unperdictable, even by Tezuka's Saiki Kanpatsu no Kiwami. Sanda's Fire technique is also capable of destroying Tezuka Zone. So I guess it can be said that Sanada is a tough match for Tezuka.

Oh and after Nationals they need to go on to the World!!! :yell

It's going to be tough battle alright. But this is Tezuka we're talking about. I don't think we'd really seen his full capabilities yet. His match against Chitose probably was the just the tip of the iceberg on what Tezuka is capable of. Of course, Sanada will give him a run for his money first.

The thing with Tezuka is that we'd only seen him in a handful of games so we don't really see what he's capable of. I think he has something up his sleeve. Sanada's too overconfident. I figure in order to get to Ryoma's match, either doubles 2, singles 2, or doubles 1 has to lose...and I think out of the three it should be doubles 2. Singles 2 has got to be Fuji, and he already lost once- I can't really see it happening again. Then doubles 1 will be the Golden Pair...and I say they have to win this one. I mean, they haven't won once yet in the Nationals...I know they only played once, but still...

*blinks* Chitose won in a tiebreak, and realized at the end that Tachibana had never aimed for his blind spot the entire match. Not to mention that Tachibana also intentionally handicapped himself by letting himself get hit in the eye, while Chitose was going all out. Tachibana at 100% would have owned Chitose.

According to issue 41 of Shounen Jump (Japanese version), Prince of Tennis will end serialization in issue 52 of Shounen Jump, after eight years of publication.

They did all the good Matches and there's nothing more to show, I think. It's good that they are ending it.

Is this completely closed off in the manga, i mean is it every conclusively stated the ryoma is an only child in the manga? Series was pretty good.

For me Echizen was way too powerful.He had to try hard,but it was never like a super struggle or anything.You always had in the back of your mind that he was going to come back.Just a matter of how he counters or what kind of Deus Ex Machina the writer comes up with.

You also have to take into account other people like Tezuka and Fuji who could be #1 players on any other teams if it wasn't Seigaku.Fuji is #3 and IIRC Tezuka and Ryoma are interchangeable as #1 and #2 in matches and depending on Tezuka's health,so that's basically 3 #1 type of players on Seigaku already.Everybody else on the team is also at a really high level,such as the snake dude who's name slips my mind,and Seigaku also had the best Doubles players.

If there is ever a Part 2,I would like the players to maybe not start as skilled.Everything doesn't have to be rags to riches approach,but I think this would have been a series that could have benefited from that more.

Ya, both of those are not in the manga. The anime, while mostly following the manga, added in some stuff like that here and there from what I've heard (havn't seen all the anime myself, just parts of it).

All I know is I can't wait to finally see what I'm guessing is going to be the best Young player in the series get his tennis on. Yukimara is going to be a beast! He even said despite Sanada's lighting/fire combo that he could still beat him. That's crazy! In any case, I'm guessing once Ryoma and the Yukimara match concludes that either Ryoma will have reached the Pinnacle of Perfection, or that the series will end in a proliphic.
That being said, if the series didn't end there I could see another season of pot starting with all Senior's having graduate and Echizen as the leader. Picture the antics! Heck, even Horio could get some spot-light.

Well, the scantlation for 367 is already out and it looked like they were about to revealed what happened to Ryouma and he was training with his dad. The training session pretty intense and that Ryouma was focused more on what he could see than what was actually there, (e.g. Ryouma's dad killing that animal in almost total darkness even though Ryouma couldn't see it)

Are people like seriously still even a fan of Ryoma? His 'development' is the most convoluted thing I've seen in any sports manga. What do I mean? In order for the author to give him actual growth (since he's made Ochibi so overpowered) he had to give him amnesia NOT even caused by a person, but by a fight against nature. What the hell is this kid doing not fighting crime or something. His trials are not that of an athlete. Cuz you know....athletes lose and learn.

Well, it was expected that the Golden pair would win easily after going into syncro. I'm also not surprised that Kentarou was easily beaten in a "one ball" match. It's supposedly a measuring stick to show just how far Ryouma has come after his training.
