Soul Eater primarily revolves around students known as meisters (職人, shokunin?) or technicians at the Shinigami Weapon Meister Vocational School (死神武器職人専門学校, Shinigami Buki Shokunin Senmon Gakkō?), or Shibusen (死武専, Shibusen?) for short, located in Death City.[1] The school is run by Shinigami, the God of Death himself, as a training facility for weapons created by shinigami and the human wielders of those weapons, the meisters.[1] Each meister has at least one demon weapon companion which has both a weapon and human form. Shinigami created the school as an organization that enforces peace in order to prevent the rebirth of the "kishin", evil demon gods that nearly destroyed everything by plunging the world into chaos. Human souls that have become evil by straying from the path of humans have a high risk of becoming kishin, so evil humans are constantly being hunted down and killed by the students trained at Shibusen. The ultimate goal of the students with their weapons is to have their weapons defeat and eat the souls of ninety-nine evil human souls and one witch's soul which will dramatically increase the power of the given weapon and thus be capable of being used by shinigami.[1] In order to ensure this is done in a timely manner, all students and weapons attend classes regularly and are given homework or supplementary lessons to further their training. The meisters have a rating system that goes from one to three stars which usually measures soul energy. It is important that the meister and weapon can tune their "soul frequency" to perform high level attacks and bring out the weapon's full power.

the animation for Macross is seriously mindblowing, 10 times better than anything Soul Eater has had.

the soundtrack for Macross is definitely better, as two of the main characters are singers.

plot....soul eater's plot (or future plot, since we're only on the prologue episodes) seems to be the better one.


i only voted for Soul Eater because it was more suited with what i liked. But i think Macross is way underrated for a series as great as it is, but then Soul Eater isnt overrated either.

I have watched both shows and I am pretty sure that I can make the difference between overrated and underrated.

Soul Eater is an excelent Shounen with lots of action,nice music and great animation thanks to Bones(one of my favourite studios).

But that is it..it certainly does not deserve the praise it is getting,especially since most of those who watch it have never watched Macross Frontier and can't compare it.

Macross ftw. Pity there isn't as much hype about it like there is for Soul Eater so alot can't really vote properly and only vote for one because that's all they've seen.

I was so impressed with Macross (never seen any of the earlier attempts) that I went and downloaded M7 but to be honest it blows in comparison to Frontier.

If you aren't a Macross fan then you really should give Frontier a go anyway as it seems like its a whole different show and done much better.

I've seen all 3 anime and
Frontier > Soul Eater > Vampire Knight.

Vampire Knight is starting to get interesting though so it may even overtake Soule Eater. Unfortunately at this stage in the anime Soul Eater pushes it out.

The whole usage of "popularity" is often the easy way of things when a series or phenomena gets attention while other series don't get so much buzz. It's all a matter of opinion and subjective reasoning. One series being better than another isn't a scientific fact or something that can be proven with arguments and counterarguments.

Is Soul Eater overrated? Perhaps, but I can say the same thing about TTGL, Haruhi, Code Geass, and a ton of other series, which I happen to like and watch but get (or received) too much hype in it's time. It doesn't mean fans don't enjoy watching the series, and if that's what the people want then that's what they'll get.

If it were up to me the manga (of the month) selection would be so much different (No Eyeshield 21! ><).

Just remember that we have the 6 month rule in effect to avoid series repeating back to back, so if the series has it's fans then it will get it's shot. Frontier getting a section in June as opposed to May doesn't somehow decrease it's worth or value.

Yes, it has it's flaws:

- Some Seiyuus aren't as good as they could
- Plot is still somewhat bland (mostly because there's only 4 eps out... but that's how it is for now anyways.). And, more or less, it's a standard shonen.
- It's an anime for kids, more or less

I still like it, because, you know, I like shonen (I may be some kind of retarded for liking it better than "serious anime", it seems).

Anyways, it seems it was my fault and it was me who started the "fight" (to call that something... -_-). Like I said in the previous post, i'm a villain.

Whatever, no problem, feel free to keep putting titles like "overhyper" over me :3. .Sure, I truly deserve it for thinking that Soul Eater is better than MF, it's obvious :zaru

I was in the same boat as you. Definitely don't need to know anything about prior Macross. Everything is explained from scratch anyway.

I got impatient waiting for a few more episodes to come out and got Macross 7. Lets just say it's nothing flash and frontier is so much better. The concept behind M7 is really gay and severly hippie. Not sure if I'll continue watching but Frontier is definitely on the list.

It's basically who has the biggest hype and not what's the best. Although I disagree with you about VK being the best it's probably going to surpass SE in the future given the direction the story is taking. SE really is nothing special. I like the art but apart from that it's really boring atm and really juvenile, eg all the people who went ZOMG squeezing breasts bbqftw. It is but when your opinion is based on just seeing one of the three anime listed and as a result only voting for that then it's hardly a valid opinion is it.

Plenty of people admit to such voting. Thats why these polls are pretty much a farce. It should be "most hyped anime of the month" poll instead. I really don't care who wins. A good show is a good show but it irks me when people vote but aren't informed about 2/3 of the options they have a choice in voting for.

It'd be interesting to run two polls at once. One for anime of the month and another multiselection poll to show which shows people have watched and hence get a general feel for how informed the opinion really is.
