View Full Version : Is Sky wrong for dominating football?

It's pretty clear that Sky Sports is number one for football... Well defiantly in the UK it is.

I was talking to my friend yesterday, and he's an avid United fan. But couldn't watch the match because he doesn't have sky.

Instead he was forced to watch Sky Sports News, where you watch someone talking about a game you wanna watch yourself. Which is cool when the game isn't being shown live.

But when it's on TV, it annoys the hell out of you.

What you guys think?

Hm. Sky is a good football advertisor and holds the rights to the Premier League.
It is a little unfair on those that can't afford to pay for their services, they'll have to settle up on a bar or with the radio.

However, the introduction of illegal internet TV piracy became a revolutionary step in global market, which many are taking advantage of.For example, Me. I ended my Sky subscription.

Yeah, I think Sky have revolutionized the way we watch football.

The fact that I can watch the 90 minutes of every football game played on Saturday/Sunday is something special.

I only watch sopcast when there isn't a good match on TV.

PS: You ended your subscription :huh.... I'd never EVER do that lol

The cropped, internet stream matches are killing my eyes so if I had Sky here I would be the happiest man alive... All we have is one channel where they occasionally show a match... most of the times its Portsmouth though, coz Kranjcar plays there:facepalm

lol yeah i ended my subscription too :zaru

sky is awesome i must say especially the FOOTBALL FIRST feature which you said. its really awesome but even when i had sky sports as well i rather watch MOTD because i like the analysis on the show...but do know ITV have CL on tuesday, channel 5 has the seria A matches and the uefa cup so its kinda the same although sky should give away their carling cup rights to another channel since they dominate premier league

But Arsenal have the best Croatian player with Eduardo.

Sky Sports are good, but I mean ITV and BBC are never gonna get to the stage Sky Sports are at.

^ yeah, seems all channels are trying to get the football thing going. But Premier League is obviously what people in the UK wanna see. And for live matches nothing beats Sky Sports.

Yea but he was mostly used as a sub and it was rarely 100% that he would be in the first team, so I guess they didn't want to risk it. When he got injured it just became easier for them to pick...

Ahh kk, I actually think before Eduardo got injured he was showing the form that would see him cement a first team place in the team. I'd rate him as the best finisher in the EPL, maybe just behind Torres.

Sopcast is Win. I love the chinese guys for things like that.

In Spain things are caothical. Different TV groups fight between them in the judges for the right of ''X'' match in the week of the match. :facepalm

I know how some of the old-timers find Sky to be one of the main causes of "money before football" and they have a point. The thing is, it made so much sense economically for Sky to start broadcasting regular football, because it basically brought the sport to the eyes of the 'neutral' audience who would previously have to go to a match to watch the action. Before Sky they used to broadcast about 6 live matches a year or something.

Also, some people might not realise how much the clubs have benefitted themselves. The amount of money Sky's given to the Premier League clubs would be the stuff of their dreams if there was no TV broadcasting; and they still make the concessions not to show any 3:00 Saturday matches to make the clubs happy. If I wanted to go to a game, it would be the high ticket prices stopping me - not because it's showing on TV, because it's an 'apples & oranges' experience. Clubs like Boro, Blackburn etc. who've been in the Premier League all this time depend on TV money so much now, because they don't win trophies. I think the clubs are the ones being too greedy to be honest.

Wow, I get 100% perfect stream from the chinese channels. Quality is fucking perfect too.

Maybe you guys are streaming from the wrong servers. All matches I watch are crystal clear and it never lags (slowest stream I got was 97% :omg)

And the commentators are ace. I personally hate commentators, but since I understand jack shit of chinese, I appreciate their enthusiasm.

it get stupid when sky dictate what time a game should be shown, The FA should strap on a pair...................

If Sky is dictating, then it should be curbed.
Come on, FA should set matches, not some channel.
This is way out of line even more that I believe even if Sky is doing for good of football, it shouldn't be their business to do the fixtures.

Sky negotiate a few 'abnormal' fixtures a year. The money they're paying to the clubs, I wouldn't make out Sky to be the bad guys.

Hype

Sky is pumping money into the game which is great

Sky is dropping attendances which is crap.

Its a win/lost situation

why go to a match on a freezing cold day pay a fortune when you can sit on your arse at home

i live in greece and not in the UK and i had the idea that setanta is dominating the EPL

here in greece we some years managed to see the italian cup and the english cup, there was a time we had the sunday games for la liga and the championat in free channels but mostly we have supersport 1 to supersport 7 which are like sky sports,it started as just supersport but it got too big and now they have 7 channels and all the foreign championships and many greek matches

the problem is that they show an EPL match, then there are other matches that they have paid like other EPL matches and calcio matches but they never show them, they have 7 channels, one is for betting and live scores, another one is for highlights of the games,2 are for random sports and 3 have the biggest teams but they are mostly not showing anything (they have messages like we'll be back tomorrow or in the night from sunday NOON!!!) or they have rugby or brazilian league or crap like that

so u get to watch man utd or arsenal or chelsea in the noon and u wait from there to watch a la liga match in the late night and occasionally they might play inter or milan or juve if brazil has a holiday :zaru

what's the point in buying all the games and big championships if ur gonna show some of them? and why are only the 2/3 channels showing football and when there are games they arent showing anything? why dont u play a match who lasts 1 hour 45 minutes and 3 or 4 (injury time) and play some commercials instead of a 3/4 hour message? who the fuck wants to see brazilian league? (which btw is playing at night but they show it the next afternoon) or cricket? or rugby?

so guys there are worse, believe me,at least u pay and u watch ur football, others pay and watch SHIT!!!

VIVA LA P2P! VIVA LA STREAM!

I can guarantee you that if you asked the question "Is Sky good for English football?" to a fan of each team in the EPL, 16 of them would say no.

Guess which 16 they are..

Mad Hatter

Without a channel like Sky, teams like Everton wouldn't have the kind of money to bring in quality players. Only is a foreign person invested in them.

I pretty much agree with Slips, But then it brings me to my next question. If teams get a lot of money from sky why not lower the ticket prices at the stadiums?

erictheking
04-27-2008, 03:53 PM
^ They're getting more & more money from sponsorship and TV deals as the years go on, but the ticket prices keep rising. Conclusion - they're greedy cunts.

no dout sky dominates football but more money into the game is fine in my books. For me individually, if there are online streams, then I'd rather not pay, which is the case.
