The story is set in the Senkoku period. The gist of the plot is that a ronin called Nanashi (meaning 'nameless') saves a young boy Kotarou and his dog Tobimaru at an abandoned temple. Kotarou has no family, is pursued by a mysterious militia organization from China and hires Nanashi as his bodyguard. Nanashi has 'sealed' his sword due to some reason in his past, and sometimes he is disturbed by nightmares. He has abandoned his name along with his past. The man who pursues Kotarou is a man called Rarou. Rarou obeys an old man called Byakuran and is a membr of the Chinese militia. He is very skilled in his sword and it seems from his eye and hair colours that he is not just a Chinese. Unlike his companions in the militia, he has no concept of 'king' and he just wants to fight with the strong.

So did anyone watch it yet? The fights were fucking awesome! Especially the final fight. Pretty good villain. The choreography was great. Some really good fights. I did feel that some of the characters didn't get enough time, but it's a movie (105 minute movie), so what can you do about it.
I was a little disappointed about the final blow of the final fight. I expected something too awesome and original. Instead I got something done so many times before.
All in all still a great movie. Don't know exactly what the story was about, so I couldn't fully enjoy it. Can't wait for a sub.

I think that's because of the use of color and lineart. Maybe a hd version is clearer? This was suppose to come out in Blueray. The raw is just a rip of the normal dvd version.

yeah, i was thinking it was weird too, but gladly, the download finally finished, took like 5 hours to download, the first 4 hours this torrent was going @ 25kb/s or something then in the last hour it went way faster

anyway, just watched it. quite the amazing animation :amazed and the story looks interesting enough(atleast what i understood, which it wasnt much), i'll be waiting for some subs :wtf

The main reason I'm not deleating the raw is because I'm also waiting for a soft sub. And it's awesome to rewatch the battles.

You guys really need to download the soundtrack. It's awesome! The music that play at the final battle is just too awesome. Been listening to it for days. Fantastic music to accompany a fantastic battle. Truly beautiful!

Then I'm puzzled - Never had this problem before and every other file is still playing fine. It's not as if the file type is unique or anything.

The only things I can think of the problem being is Mozilla and me not 'Saving target as'. I'll try downloading it for a 3rd time, this time with IE.

Weird. I downloaded it with IE the first time (forgot to save as :S). 2nd time I downloaded it with Mozilla. Both downloads were successful and the file plays just fine. I'm pretty sure it's something wrong on your end.

Before deleting it, I decided to see if it was a video decoding issue and switched to ffdshow (I was using CoreAVC) - It worked with ffdshow decoding. No idea why CoreAVC has a problem with it but there we go. :/

Finished watching it 5 minutes ago. Excellent film, right up there with the best anime has to offer.

In terms of plot, Stranger is a simple story: A samurai called Nanashi, who refuses to draw his sword due his past, ends up being the bodyguard of a boy, getting attached to him (and the boys pet dog) whilst guarding him. The boy, Kotarou, has the elite of China hunting him, leading to much death. To be honest, I'm actually glad the story was simple after seeing how so many anime films explain as little as possible, attempting to appear deep when they are really simple films with lots of information left out.

Although it did have an interesting enough story and the main character had some depth, the action was by far the best part of the film. The action sequences were fast, frenzied and awesome - A must watch for shounen fans and pretty much everyone in general.

My only real complaint about the film isn't with the film itself; it's with the quality of the DVD-rip. The encode of the Q-R RAW is poor... It looked more like a TV-rip. I'll look forward to seeing a better version.

Yea, impressive movie from BONES. The one thing I found cheesy was the villains' motive with the immortality thing..overused, but this is a movie so we really can't blame them.

Too bad we don't get to know a bit more about Nanashi's past. He resembled alot like Kenshin as a ronin imo, but they're both awesome :LOS

Well, I'm not much of a poster or commenter in these forums, even though I've been here for quite some time, but just thought this movie highly warrants a recommendation before it gets overlooked. Highly recommendable.

I espescially found the blend of Japanese/Chinese music in the epic scenes very intriguing and aweinspiring. (If it is a blend of at all, just had that feel to me.)

I agree. One of the best fitting music to a scene I've ever heard. It's so great. You can really feel the music.

They're always HQ (the ones I watch anyway) so I don't have to worry about crappy animation and it's just fun to watch something in one go and don't need to watch 50+ episodes to come to a conclusion.

It's a 1 1/2 hour movie, there's just so much you can put in it. Besides some of the shonen I watch take 315 after they start with real character development of certain characters, so I can't complain.
I wish we had more info on Rarou though. Only thing we know about him is that he's a fearsome person who can kick ass.

@ Haohmaru, Yes, what makes the music unique in its own is exactly because it feels epic the way braveheart and Lord of the Rings does, but it still retains the Japanese/Chinese overall feel of the movie. The reason I'm fangasming so much over the music, is just because I'm a sucker for good and epic music in movies generally. It does really make a difference to, whether or not those tiny hairs on the back of your head raises.

It's actually not a true blu-ray file :laugh The group ripped the movie from a blu-ray version, just to let you know :nod I burned it onto a regular DVD disc and it plays just fine.

The resolution's 1280x720 and the quality's pretty similar to blu-ray, but it's better than the regular DVD version's quality.

No, I only watch it on a computer. I wouldn't bother trying to watch on a DVD player since you have to go through so much converting and crap. Just get the codecs required so you can watch all the HD goodies on your computer :LOS

I use Nero to burn my stuff, but you'll have to convert your files if you want to watch them on TV :zaru

Don't use WMP to watch it. Download and install CCCP, and possibly CoreAVC if you don't have the processor power to play a 720p video(if you're referring to the 720p floating around).

Mux them together using mkvtoolnix and mkvmerge(download them both). Or simply rename them to be the same(the extensin doesn't matter) and put them in the same folder, ie: Stranger.mkv and Stranger.ass.

I've just recently finished watching this all I can say it's better than I thought, it was great. The battles were fantastic and done so well this is gonna be challenging Spirited away for my favorite animation move spot.

The characters might be a bit simple and nothing out of the ordinary, but it works so well anyways. And the music felt so epic near the end with the fighting.

Bones does it again, brilliant work looking forward to watch the next thing they put together.

Nanashi can't die. He's too cool to die. Besides as I've stated a few times in this thread already, his cuts were too shallow. Sure he was bleeding, but there was no intensive bleeding. One of my favorite movies as well. I'm still waiting for the Blu-Ray to come out. Is it out yet btw? I want it in dual audio Blu-Ray. There's a dvdboxset on ebay ($150) and they're also auctioning a poster signed by bones for $40 lol.

Yeah, I also hope both will have epic action scenes. Trigun isn't going to be anything like this cause it's with guns, but I'm really hoping Ninja Scroll 2 will have better action scenes as NJ1. Ninja Scroll was good, but nothing compared to Stranger. The choreography in Stranger was just great. But I have a lot of respect for Madhouse movies. They're really awesome when it comes to movies, so I'm expecting awesome stuff.

Not really. I had a feeling Rarou was going to kill him eventually. He was picking a fight with Rarou when he knew he didn't stand a chance. Arrow boy died really fast lol. His entrance was pretty big, shooting down that crazy bitch of the roof. But the glory wasn't longlasted, cause he got beheaded like 10 sec later lol. Ax freak was really tough though.

And about Trigun the movie, I wasn't saying it couldn't be great. I meant that it wasn't going to have 1 on 1 sword action. Ninja Scroll is more like this action wise. That's why I was comparing it with NJ.
