Other question: "HOW he had killed him?"
there's no other option - Sasuke can't killed him in such easy way - in fact. But he did. not really easy sure, but it was TOO short for sure. Zetsu said while observing their fight something like: "Itachi obviously was serious injured before he met Sasuke." wtf?

We don't know if Itachi is even dead. There is still a slim chance he could be alive. Technically Sasuke didn't even kill Itachi. Itachi had Sasuke in the midst of his own death, until Itachi collapsed. We don't even know what happened with his body. Until the manga goes a few more chapters, only for certain, can we say he's dead.

I do think he's dead, but knowing Naruto, you never know.

i never got that far in the manga but i think that there was a bad side to his mengeki byakugan (sp?) that consumed him till death. he used it 24/7 so it must have sucked up a lot of his chakra... until he had none left. thats what i think.

Zetsu was musing when stating that comment, so it is questionable as to whether Itachi was injured prior to the match. Zetsu himself can not put a pinpoint on it, but it seems to definately suggest that Itachi was not 100% at full strength. It may have to do with prior encounters, possibly his true motivations, or perhaps something else not suggested thus far.

But as to HOW Sasuke won (beside the possibilites suggested above), he won with his knowledge of Itachi as well as his strategy. In the end it was balancing the effects and counter effects of jutsu and in the end the chakra loss was too great for Itachi.

Sasuke didn't kill Itachi. Itachi killed Itachi by pushing himself way beyond his limits. There's also the factor of Itachi possibly getting hurt prior to the battle to consider. But as far as i'm concerned, Itachi screwed himself over, which is a sad fate for him. I didn't want him to go like that T_T

I think it is pretty certain that Itachi is dead. As Zetsu has said so three days, and Madara once as well. HisshouBuraiKen has also claimed that the translation states Itachi's death.

Itachi's death was the result of an overuse of chakra- hence the heart
attack.
He fought for too long - used too many powerful techniques.

Itachi's death was extremely lame and with it neither Sasuke nor Itachi achieved their goals. Sasuke didn't end up killing Itachi (in-fact he didn't even beat him) and Itachi didn't get Sasuke's eyes (I'm not going to comment on the fact that the way to achieve EMS makes no sense at all)

You know, this thread DID bring up good questions.


Before re-reading it, I couldn't recall and instance where Sasuke successfully landed a scratch on Itachi, but then I saw this. (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/389/07/)

After that, the damage he takes comes mostly from near-miss Chidoris, minor burns from katon flames, shrapnel from flying debris, and minor impact damage. On the whole, it's safe to say that Itachi was dealing far more damage than he received, at least until Kirin.

Say what you will, the fact is that Susano only helped Itachi absorb the damage, not avoid it altogether. Itachi avoid only enough damage to keep himself alive, but Kirin likely dealt him a serious blow.

That aside, it seems what killed Itachi in this fight was his chakra limit. We'd learned before(in Kisame/Itachi vs. Jiraiya), that Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu are very chakra-intensive, draining jutsus. We've also learned that over-use of one's available chakra(when Kakashi was training Sasuke), could result in death. And here's Itachi using: -Tsukiyomi--only to have it turned on him,
-using Amaterasu several times,
-using Susano to defend himself,
... in addition to the myriad other genjutsus, ninjutsus, and stamina-taxing taijutsus.

This is all topped by the damage Itachi was taking(minor though it was), to simply expend his chakra beyond the mortal limit.
