This is pretty naruto unrelated, but then again I *think* this is what this forum is for. Anyway, does anyone know any jobs an 18 year old can do that pay more than $12 an hour. I am turning 18 in the beggining of june, and i just put in my leaving in two weeks noticve thingy at my current job. So need to find a new one soon. Thanks.

Shooting pretty high aren't ya, buddy?

Advice: unless you absolutely hate it, don't quit your job without anything else lined up. I did, and I'm really regretting it.

I know of absolutely NO jobs that would pay an 18-year old a starting pay of $12 an hour. In nearly any case I can think of, you'd have to work your way up to some sort of management position to come anywhere close to that type of wage.

If you happen to find one, hook a brother up, would you?

I can get a construction job for 12 if I get really desperate. Right now I am working for $7 at a fucking amusement park where I have to run around like a bitch and listen to dumb people, cant even think about anything. The shifts are 14 hours sometimes during the summer, and you get them in a row. And overall the job sucks, cant get much worse, plus people that work there are dumb. Pay isnt the worst I guess, but its not worth it. I think $12 is reasonable, thanks for the advice though.

edit: stick just saw your reply after I posted, as I said, some construction jobs will pay that at start, they are hard to get without reference. Also busboys and waiters at 5 star restaraunts if you have any of those around, but those jobs are hard to get. I will let you guys know if i find anything.

the most I could get for a starting job was $9/hour

unless it's a job that requires some sort of skill then I don't know of many options

if you live in so cal and have some table waiting experience you can get a job at my place.. i make $15/hour and i turn 19 in july. or you could start as a busboy and make 9 and after like a year be moved up.
edit: btw its a banquet hall with wedding receptions, bar mitsvahs (sp) important wedding aniversaries or birthdays. that sorta thing

shit, i am so pissed at myself! i got offered a job that would pay 13$ an hour after training, 11 during. i would pretty much just make sure some machines were running smoothly, not really any labour involved. i was a fool and said i'd call the lady back the next day with an answer, because i had to get in touch with the temporary agency i was at. the extension she had given me was faulty, and by the time i got through to her the job was taken. *kills self... again!*

If you can still grab that construction job, I say you better grab it quick. And while you work, look for another job if that's what you want (but it isn't as easy as it sounds: going to interviews/ job hunting/ sleeping, while working XD).

Construction pays A LOT (at least here in canada it does). $12/h for a kid is pretty good, better than most places imo. Even newbs who works under internship get paid 'nuff. If you work there for some time, and they really like you and you do a good job, they'll raise your pay. Simple as that.
(but you're right, construction jobs are pretty hard to come by if someone doesn't refer you to the boss first. THat's usually how it goes)

Get the construction job, for the love of god!! Why wouldn't you? XD :leepose

Here where I live there are some outbound telemarketing jobs that pay up to that much after a certain amount of months, but outbound telemarketing isn't the most appealing thing in the world. Also door to door sales people selling knives (yes, knives) make about $15 hr but that is also something left to be desired. Receptionists at decent places make a good amount of money too. You shouldn't have quit your job though.

So I guess... try telemarketing? Even though the thought of it sucks.

I just took an internship that pays $12.50 an hour, but that's with a lot of chemisty experience under my belt. The Post Office will pay $10.50, but they will want you to work 3-midnight or something like that 6 days a week. And then there is stuff like UPS and FedEx that pay good to unload trucks and stuff, but I don't know how much exactly. At your age I would recommend working two jobs if there is something you really need money for, but if you just think highly of yourself, lose the attitude and get in school or something.

I used to work at a chemical plant (they made sugar substitutes) for about 15-18 bucks an hour and that was just for being summer help. (My pay increased when I switched jobs at the plant.) Manual labor is where you can get the most money if you don't have prior experience, especially if you're in a union. But the reason you get so much money is because its either dangerous, or damaging to your body. My arm and wrist are all messed up from the job, which isn't good since I'm an illustrator. However, these jobs are harder and harder to come by, as people become willing to work for less and less. For example that same job which I was offered again this year will pay at most $13, which isn't enough for me if it hurts my arm so much.

Hey, thanks for all the helps guys. From what I gather, the only way I can get that much is manual labor or jobs that involve tips. I will try for busboy/waiter at a local 5 star restauraunt, I have 4 months experience at shitty place, so probably wont work. Friend, that knife selling sounds awsome, I know lots about knives, i live in fucking cincinnati though. No jobs like that here.

I am going to school in the fall, need money now to pay for it though, since I fucked up junior year and only have half the costs covered by schoolarships. And I dont want loans since parents have to co-sign and I dont like them doing stuff for me. I will also be doing internships as soon as possible. Try to take related courses starting freshman year.

Justaface: think before calling me a dumbass. There is that wonderful thing called two weeks notice before you quit, and that wonderful thing does wonders for recommendations. And if you dont do it, you might as well not mention you had a job previously. I am still working until June 7th and looking for a job now. People appreciate courtesy. I don't mind random insults, but justify them.

Anyway, I really appreciate the ideas evryone.

I know where you're coming from. I hate it when I have to rely on my parents, but luckily those days are (almost) over. I would just try the working two jobs thing. That would insure enough money for college. Work one full time and one part. And pick jobs that you'll enjoy. Then when school starts up, quit the full time job. Freshman year is a breeze anyway. And be conservative with your money. Don't buy things you don't really need. Choose your major quick, get in good with the professors, study your ass off, and try for departmental scholarships. You can still get a free ride at your college of choice your junior and senior years.

I have a job now that I work 14 hours/day now that they are open for the summer on weekdays. So I dont need two jobs, but for $7 an hour, its hardly worth it. Plus I want to have time to work out/learn german, and learn other stuff. People that rely on their parents should be slapped. Most of them will indirectly though, unless they have really, really, really, insanely, amazingly, unmeasurably rich parents.

I considered working as a mail man, and I am FREAKING REGRETING NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH!!!

Up here in Canada , mailmen can work only 3 hours and they get paid a full 8 hour shift. It at least explains why it takes mail so long to get from point A to point B.

Hey, minimum wage might be all you can get. But I would find something you enjoyed, as it seems as if you don't really enjoy what you do.

I have to rely on my parents. They won't let me live on my own. I was going to join the Navy and be a nuclear engineer, but my mom through a fit. I decided to respect her wishes. I moved out when I was 20 and lived on my own, but I transferred to a school where my father teaches cause I get an 80% tuition discount, and he wanted me to move in with him because he was bored (the rest of my family lives four hours north of us) so I did. Now I'm looking for a place to call my own again. So don't judge so harshly.

Yeah, thats a fucked up post office. My little brother works for the postal service as a sorter and he does that 3-midnight thing everyday but Sundays. My grandfather has been a carrier for a while and he works longer hours than anyone else I know.

You mentioned that you don't want to rely on your parents for money? Are you independent from them right now because if you fill out the fafsa and you are applying alone, your small amount of income/lack of income can give you a few grants that could cover a lot. That's how I got through my first two years of college without having to pay anything myself and you don't have to pay those back.

Ahh. Fafsa. I need to sign up fro that this year.

Anyway, yes, you should have found another job before you quit your current job. If you want a job that pays that high, I recommend a telemarketing job that either calls out or receives calls. You can also sell mobile phones too. Both jobs get hourly plus commission.

You have to keep your eyes out for a job. Just a little while ago, I saw a part time job, 15 hours a week that pays you 18-19 dollars an hour regardless of age. You did have to know some stuff about computers though (not too sure if you know much about them) but these types of jobs do exist. Just keep checking job listings and your local paper.

If you play video games alot, the video game testers jobs are pretty sweet. I've been invited to meeting before. they offer me pizza, drinks and we have a discussion group about a video game. 2hours. $50. It's not regular though. it's just whenever they call up.
If you take a part-time or full-time video game testing (the one when you play to find bugs and things like that) is about $10-$16 per hour. It's quite hard to get a job like that. You gotta be either a hardcore gamer or have a very sharp opinion about videogames.

PS I didn't take the offering, I had something else that day. About mail man, in some situation if you are a quick skill mail man, whenever you finish delievering you can go home. So if you are good.....

I am working in construction now, and I was very gullible to believe that it would pay 14/h. I guess people I know like to exaggurate too much. So I get paid 10/h for working with dumbass 35-45 year olds who smoke every 20 mins. It sucks, never work in construction kids. I am looking for a security guard job now.

Cool that you got an ok job it sounds like though, everyone ends up working shit jobs in their life sometimes and at least you got ok pay. I'm 20 and I only make $7/hour but I get about $20-30 in tips every night and my job is so relaxed that I've taken 30 minute naps while on the clock.

Good luck finding a job you like bro

well depending on where you live im from canada and over here most industry-related labour jobs pay more then 12$ an hour, i think its the same in the states but the conditions you have to work under are often very trying.

go get a government job, its pretty awesome(thou the people, I work with are dumb asses). 18/hr, no experience necessary. the section im in used to have a 80% turnover rate before the recession. (again, people are dumb and a lot of drama.) basically, they touched my risk and said.

"oh, you have a pulse! and you can sign your name! hired!"

of course, any government job has like a fucking 6months to 2years processing time. before you apply, make sure you have a good record, and your credit card debt isn't too high.
