well i posted this question in the wrong forum so now im posting it here.

I have been all over the internet (yes google too) looking for tuts on how to make simple vector art.

Yet i am stricken with tuts assuming that i already know everything thing there is to know about how to make one.

One tut literally said this:

Step 1: select pen tool and then select shapes (sweet no problem)
Step 2: You dont want to many layers no more than 5 because you dont want to loose the simplisticness of the image. so after you have finished selecting your skin layers (WHAT???????)

most of the tuts are like this.. call me crazy but there is a big gap between step 1 and 2.

Please for the love of god. someone just give me a staight definition of vector and a website i can go to to learn vector without having either taken classes, purchased flash,or know all there is to know about pen tooling.

sadly, if you want to vector, you have to use the pen tool. No way around it.

I haven't really come across a good BASIC tutorial about the pen tool. your best bet would be to go to lynda.com and find a 7 day trial pass and look at their illustrator tutorials. They are exactly what you are looking for. They go over EVERY tool step by step. It takes hours to get through a whole program's video workshop, but afterwards, you will know a lot more about using the program and be able to make simple vectors.

seriously, lynda.com is THE BEST for learning a program.

edit: here is the tutorial page you want to learn illustrator CS3. if you want CS2 or earlier, they have pages for those too.
