Mario's awesome. Way better than Sonic. Not just that, but recent Sonic games have been rather underwhelming, whereas Mario's still going pretty strong with new games like Mario Superstar Saga and Mario Vs. Donkey Kong and Paper Mario 2...yeah, Mario owns.

I really like the Genesis Sonics, I've played em ever since I was old enough to play video games and still do today, I don't really like the 3D Sonics except for Sonic and Shadow's levels. yeah man..those levels were hard...but also loads of fun...what i think was the big problem with sunshine is that it was really small..there were like only 70 stars of normal levels and the rest were all the blue coins and 100 yellow coins..that sucked...only 70 stars.and i dont know why but the levels seemed a lot more limitating than in mario 64...they just seemed smaller even though they allege that they are much bigger...ill ever forget the first time i played m 64 and i thought the first level was gigantic..:).i think the next mario shouldnt focus so much on graphics and more on fun and it should be like 100 times more difficult.mario sunshine was way to easy...

Mario wins!! There is only so much running around at high speeds I can take then it just gets boring. Although I liked some of the old 2d sonic games, but I didn't really like the 3D ones. in a fight, sonic would probably win, just from sheer speed. sonic's origional games were kick-ass, but the only one for the new consoles that was any good was Sonic Adventure 2, Battle. (I dont have any expierence with the handheld sonic games except for the old GameGear ones, by new consoles I mean Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2). Mario's games were all awsome, with only a few exceptions. I mean, come on. Mario3, Mario World, Mario64, and Mario Kart? Mario's got the better all around games, definatly.

Sonic and Mario are classics. best of the best. My pick is Mario but not because Sonic sucks. Sonic is definatly better than a lot of the trash they put out nowadays. It's like old Samurai warriors who in the modern age have no 'worthy opponents' that's what Sega is to me. Oh sure when I was young I was all Nintendo and anti-Sega but now that Sega is gone.. i lookat what's left and laugh. I fondly remember the quality battles we had back in the good old Sega/Nintendo days.

I like sonic more. Sonic 3 is one of my favorite platformers. Mario is also kickass, but I don't like his games as much as sonic games (though sonich heroes was not fun, nor was sonich advanced 2).

1) Sonic is a psychotically fit individual. Mario is a fat plumber. Mario may be a pimp but he's still gonna die of cardiovascular disease, at 34.

3) Mario can stay underwater as long as he can. Sonic usally drowns. Aquaman can also stay underwater indefintely, and we all know how useful he is.

4) Sonic attacks in every direction simultaneously (spinning). Mario jumps on things.

5) Sonic can survive hard vacuum and has obscene upper body strength (Holding on to a rocket as it exits the atmosphere is hard-core, as is surviving such an event.)

Sonic would win a fight. Super Sonic is better than Super Mario, then he had hyper too. As for who has better games in 2d it was sonic on average but mario overall so Ill call it a draw, though SMB3 was better than even S&K+S3 expansion, and SMW was damn good as was its sequel. In 3d games mario was better. In tv shows Sonic edges him out besides having some ok recent ones and a funny but crappy old one during the week, the old ABC weekend Sonic the hedgehog is like one of the best of all time. SMB had a great intro and SMB3 was cool but I cant remember much about the actual episodes that awed me, and SMW had a tv series too. So overall Id say Sonic wins this.
