Neji wins this. From what I know of Kabuto's ability, he wont be able to lay a hand on Neji. Neji will eventually block all of Kabuto's chakra points and then the fight is over.

We know pre-skip that Kabuto was at Kakashi's level, but I don't think he can take on Neji. Kabuto is a highly skilled medical nin, I don't think he has the offensive abilities to compete with Neji.

Kabuto stomps...Neji is low jounin at best.

He can fight well vs Chuuins and Genins pre skip; but he has not shown the ability to fight on par with anyone jounin or above.

With the information we have at the moment, I see three possibilities:

1. Kabuto clearly wins.

2. Kabuto and Neji draw.

3. Neji wins but is at near death (a la Kidoumaru fight)

Neji wins this. They esentially fight the same way, through damaging the organs, it's just too bad, Neji has the perfect defense agains that, the Kaiten.

I'm seeing Kabuto getting knocked away with the Kaiten, and killed by some follow-up, Hakke, kushous.

You realise that there is not one thing Kabuto can do to avoid neji once he ends up in his hakke.

Kabuto is not a longe range fighter which makes things even worse.

It's either he fights neji and dies or runs away.

Neji would win in both those scenarios anyway:zaru

I believe that Yakushi Kabuto is a higher level shinobi than Hyūga Neji by two leagues, Kabuto being an elite jōnin and Neji only being a mid-jōnin. However, Kabuto's suite of jutsu is rather peculiar for its ineffectiveness. His chakra no mesu (chakra scalpel) relies on close-range combat to be effective, at which it potentially could be as effective as jūken – yet Kabuto is not a taijutsu type. His genjutsu, such as nehan shoja, is high-level and performed with ease, but he has yet to show any genjutsu that is very effective against one target rather than not very effective against many. His ninjutsu seems so far to be limited completely to support jutsu which have little use in combat. All he has going for him that actually works well is a fast combat-capable shunshin.

Neji highlights every ridiculous point of Kabuto's style, and worsens it. Kabuto is someone for whom taijutsu is not a strong point, fighting against someone whose style is just about the best taijutsu style. He relies on touch-range attacks against someone who has a perfect counter to them in kaiten. He supposedly uses genjutsu quite well in combat, but he's against someone who by all rights has fantastic genjutsu resistance.

By Battledome standards, Neji is going to win this, but you'll have to forgive me for thinking that if Kabuto really is around Kakashi's level, then he's holding back a lot.

Kabuto can go underground.

Neji can see underground =)
Does somebody even remember the byakugan exists?

When Neji fought Kidomaru he used chakra in the tip of his fingers to cut Kidomaru's webs... was it the same jutsu that Kabuto uses against Tsunade(chakra scapels)?

Truepotential

Neji has huge advantages over Kabuto.

Chakra Scalpels probably can't pierce Neji's defense.

However, genjutsu may give Kabuto the win here.

again, that's wasn't the point of my post. Although, we haven't seen Neji seeing underground using his Byakugan but I am pretty sure he can see there.

The point of, my post was about avoiding the 64/128 palms. We gotta remember that Kabuto is very well knowledged shinobi. He should know everything about Neji, where as on the counter side, Neji doesn't/shouldn't know anything about Kabuto. That gives Kabuto an healthy edge in avoiding 64/128 palms once Kabuto is in Neji's Hakke.

Genius-24 has a good point. Between travelling underground and his fast shunshin, Kabuto can probably survive against Neji quite well if he plays a defensive game. It's also fair to say, however, that a defensive game is just about all we can see him doing – because if he attacks, he'll definitely lose if all he has is what he's shown.

I would thnk that Neji has some basic knowledge of Kabuto as he may have heard about Kabuto probably from Naruto. He has also seen Kabuto in the Chunin Exams and probably knows of his true ties and identity. He may not know the specifics of Kabuto's abilties, but I believe that he has a basic knowledge.

As for this match, they are both very close range fighters, but as others have pointed out, Kabuto's taijutsu is not all that great and it would prove to be against Neji's fighting style. The Kaiton would be a very effective move against Kabuto's attacks which are all mostly touch based. Despite the rank difference, which by the way is a basic standpoint of their abiltiies, I believe that Neji has the advantage here.

Yeah, it might even be that I'm being too kind to him in saying that he is around that level. But then again... Tsunade's commentary was shining, and Orochimaru's assessment came across as fair. I try to ignore the idea that Kabuto said he was bad at taijutsu, because it just doesn't make any sense. All I can think is that he's kept back some of his more important jutsu, and, like Tsunade, only deceptively has a weak fighting style.

Roland

This isn't looking good for Kabuto. Though he did defeat Tsunade, sorta, he did so by utilizing her major weakness, fear of blood. By using that weakness, he was able to defeat Tsunade, a medical nin, and her student, Shizune who is also a medical nin. But in this situation, he is fighting Neji, a shinobi with little weaknesses and a taijutsu expert. I don't see a way that Kabuto good fight Neji other than taijutsu, and Kabuto himself admitted that taijutsu was not his strongest point. I see this ending with Kabuto's chakra points sealed off and Neji minorly damaged.

PisOgPapir

Neji is perfectly suited against Kabuto. Judging from the databook Kabuto is heavily a genjutsu user. Neji has an extremely good chakra control, since control is the fundation of all his Hyuuga techniques.

Kabutos taijutsu is quite alike Neji's as in damaging the vital organs, but i don't think he will beat Neji at his own game. Especially not with the Kaiten.

Keep in mind that Neji's overall level isn't too high. He was easily defeated by Kisame, a person whose intelligence pales in front of Kabuto's.
You mean Kisame, the S-ranked missing-nin and allegedly the person with the greatest chakra capacity in Akatsuki?
Besides he was not "defeated" he was trapped and then broke out, note also that in that fight neither he nor Lee fought at any reasonable level.

Even though Neji's style is good against Kabuto, Kabuto's overall level is too high to be defeated by someone like Neji.
This isn't DBZ, person style and strengths count for a lot.

Now...on to the analysis.

The fight.

Usually I( break this up into sections and take into account power ups...but from what we've seen both fighters are heavily taijutsu geared (despite Kabuto's claims.)
Basically on one side we have Neji, a taijutsu specialist in the strongest taijutsu style of the leaf village, gifted with the Byakugan and the keen ability to read people and also one of the fastest of the Konoha 12.
On the other side we have Kabuto, medical ninja and (supposedly) genjutsu user. We know he's strong, at least mid-Jounin level according to Orochimaru and gifted with ultra fast regen and a good knowledge of anatomy.

Now both styles are similar, but while Neji's Jyuuken attacks the chakra circulatory system and internal organs Kabuto's is aimed at slashing muscles and tendons, making a clean hit from either of them potentially game over.
However Kabuto has admitted his Taijutsu is not good and from what we've seen this appears to be true, its unique but not particularly refined, he doesn't have much else to bring out in this fight, while he could dodge Tsunade (who was a medical ninja who admitted her job was in support) Tsunade didn't appear to have anything like the speed or Taijutsu proficiency Neji has shown.
Two factors swing this in favour of Neji massively; his Kaiten which can pretty much sweep away any attack made by Kabuto, stop it from landing and opening up an opportunity for a painful Jyuuken hit (which Kabuto probably won't be able to regenerate).
Second his Hakke Rokujuu Yonshou, if I got that right, which to date has not been dodged and given the way time seems to slow down when performed I'm saying with Kabuto's speed and taijutsu he's not going to dodge it and he can't block it.
Once that lands his chakra circulatory system is down and its over, he's at Neji's mercy as his regen won't work, his scalpels won't work and his body will barely move.
Opposed to this Kabuto doesn't have much to bring out, he can move underground but with Neji's new eyesight I can't imagine him being able to use this sneak up on him, genjutsu is unlikely to be effective as Neji should by all rights have the strongest (or at least top-tier) genjutsu defence of the Konoha 11...this comes from a mix of his precise chakra control and his status as the former year's #1 rookie, if Sakura (not top-of-the-class) knows genjutsu defence its likely Neji does too.
Also Neji now has the Hakke Kuushou, a long ranged technique and the only one to be featured in this battle, while it doesn't appear to cause heavy damage it could knock Kabuto back and create an opening.
Also remember Jyuuken doesn't need to get a clean hit to be effective, a glancing blow or a near miss can also work, while Kabuto's style likely is a little more restricted.
Also bear in mind Neji has the opportunity to do the same sort of moves he did on Hinata on Kabuto, that is using his style defensively to close of chakra points, this might be less likely to work and there should be no need for Neji to use this...but it is an option.
So while both combatants hit similarly hard Neji hits faster and has a more refined technique and has jutsu that can win this for him pretty quickly and that Kabuto has not shown a counter for.

Notes:
Remember in two and a half years Neji went from Genin to full Jounin, he was strong as a Genin but failed to earn Chuunin rank..so we can only assume some pretty explosive growth to have him reach so high a rank so quickly.
While Kabuto may have improved it is less likely he will have advanced by nearly as much.

Also remember despite Orochimaru's claims Kabuto hasn't demonstrated Kakashi-level abilities, being defeated by a Naruto who was easily handled by Kakashi, I think he must have some hidden strengths that are yet to be revealed or else Orochimaru was just overrating him (which is possible but unlikely.)

Bear in mind we haven't had a decent look at Neji's post-skip capacity either, as he has advanced two full ranks we must assume he has become stronger, but little insight into his improvements has been made.

Based on what we've got...Neji wins.

Why do people keep saying this. Neji did'nt really even fight Kisame. He got trapped in Kisame's water prison (same as Kakashi), and then freed himself along with Lee and Tenten. Something Kakashi could'nt do without the help of Naruto and Sasuke.

And honestly, the only reason why anyone can say Kabuto is at a higher level then Neji is because neji has'nt had a really battle since the timeskip. Most ridiculous case ever...Well okay not ever, but its still pretty stupid.
Gai says "Now" his team springs into action and jumps at Sharky, Kisame makes the clones and catches them, in exceptional time I might add.
Neji succeeds in breaking out shortly thereafter, bare in mind the time oddities in manga.

There was no "tried to fight and lost" Kisame and Neji barely traded blows and not nearly enough for a valid analysis of their abilities to be made.

Basically there's no way Kisame was going to hold the jutsu long enough for Neji to drown, so the entire thing is irrelevant.

I completely agree. Given what they have shown us, Neji should be able to quite capably handle him in combat.

However, Kishi hammered in during Part I that Kabuto was a shinobi on level with Kakashi. There would be no reason to lie to the reader, so I think it is safe to assume those statements were true.

Given that, Kabuto has to have a lot that he hasn't shown us. He also specifically said he wasn't a taijutsu type, therefore he MUST have a more ninjutsu or genjutsu based fighting style we haven't seen. This is backed up by the databook which gives him a 4.5 in ninjutsu, a 4 in genjutsu but only a 3 in taijutsu. [of course, it is idiotic that he would chose to face Tsunade in close combat if he could easily fight from a distance].

Jyuuken > Chakra Scapels. Especially considering that Kabuto has to use Taijutsu to try and incapicate his opponents, he's going to get stomped by Neji, especially Part II Neji. Neji takes this easily.

He is the absolute worst type of opponent you can put Kabuto against.

You guys saw what Kisame did to him..so easily. Kabuto takes this; he is most likely faster, and definitely way smarter.

Neji was able to escape and save Lee and Tenten in the process

Compare this with elite jounin Kakashi, who "died" in Zabuza's hands.
Kakashi even lost all hope screaming to the genin too run away, which they disobeyed and ended up having to save his ass.

Genius-24 has a good point. Between travelling underground and his fast shunshin, Kabuto can probably survive against Neji quite well if he plays a defensive game. For the rest, exactly.

Even though Neji's style is good against Kabuto, Kabuto's overall level is too high to be defeated by someone like Neji.

Kabuto's high level? Certainly not well displayed in this manga
-He got damaged by the Sound genin
-He ran from Kakashi
-He got pwned by genin Naruto with Rasengan
-He got armlocked by Sai

Neji, even pre-skip Neji's genin skills are perfectly suited against Kabuto.

Considering how Kabuto has a record of getting beaten by kids, paired with Neji being his natural enemy, jounin Neji wins this quite easily.

Jyuuken > Chakra Scapels. Especially considering that Kabuto has to use Taijutsu to try and incapicate his opponents, he's going to get stomped by Neji, especially Part II Neji. Neji takes this easily.

Like it or not, if Kisame had actually wanted to kill Neji or even fight him Neji would be dead right now. Kisame had a score to settle with Gai, so that is why Neji is alive right now.

Powerscaling does count for something. For example, do you believe that Chiyo can beat Itachi? The Sharingan's weakness is numbers... I thought not.

As I understand, the Water Prision method of killing is only drowning. If one tries to insert a sword(like Samehada) or a Kunai inside, it'll get disrupted and free the victim. Kisame wouldn't kill Neji inside the Water Prision by no means, IMO.
