I don't believe in a heaven or hell (well, I don't think I do xP Who knows, might change later) really, so I think that when you die, you just....die.

May be it will move to another dimension which continues to exist...similar as our world.
A world full of tech even greater and higher than us, using the universe elements as their magic sources and communication devices towards a new era: Aliens!
I have my limitations of imagining things so I say the next dimension might be a beautiful world where we will wear beautiful robes and live with magic as our element and skill. Our so called earth might be floating in air with out need use of technology. Just transportation is required to further roam throught the world for those who are catogerize as weak mage.

I've always wondered about the same question myself. Even though I'm born and raised as a Catholic, I have some partial skepticism. Like for instance, after we die, what if we don't end up going to heaven/purgatory/hell (which I learned from my own religion)? Do they truly exist? If not, do we end up in just a "dark" place or reincarnate into another soul? Yeah, I think too much haha.

Some believe in paradise, others in reincarnation or even in nothing. I am very opened myself and even though I believe in God, I wouldn't be able to give you a specific answer to this question. But I am sure life continues after the body dies. What kind of life ? Can't tell :)

why should there be somethin after death??? .. it makes no sense... flowers have no life after death... nonhuman_animals don't have a life after they die.. why should humans have? .. i carefully red koran ,bible and all the other thinks buddhism and so on... and it all makes no sense why... the whole idea was made up by ppl who fear the End...
i don't say that i wanna die or that i don't fear my end... and me 2 would like to stay young a long time... but i know i can't... and i became friends with this idea... it's ok that we all will die one day... don't hope for somethin childish like life after death... it only is like a painkiller... cause we humans exist only by accident 2.. water came from another planet in this system and with the organism whch existed on this planet after a long time we human beings come to this point...
it doesn't make any sense that there should be a life after death... the only way we will keep existin is because we will become part of the earth and feed the flowers with what is left from our bodies...

Because we prefer to think logically instead of lying to ourselves that some magical sky man controls everything?
You can't simply start believing, you'd have to really believe... and if you're like me you can see that the idea of there being a God is ridiculous and could never truly believe something like that.#
And that conversation would probably go like this.
God: Dude wtf, why didnt you like believe?
Me: Maybe because you let millions of good, innocent people die.
Me: or maybe it was because you never responded to my prayers at all, and let bad stuff happen to me all the time.
God: Oh, well I love you still.. but hey, I'm going to send you to hell anyway now.. since you didn't believe in me and all.

[b]Because we prefer to think logically instead of lying to ourselves that some magical sky man controls everything?
Oh yeah? Whats your great logical answer?
Is it just a coincidence that Moses freed the hewbrews under the command of 1 god and the torah was found.
Then Jesus comes, with another book by the same god.
Then Mohammed comes out with the last book from the same god.
Dont you see a trend here? Or are you going to say that O they just wrote it themselves. Because very few men could have written what was in those books.
You can't simply start believing, you'd have to really believe... and if you're like me you can see that the idea of there being a God is ridiculous and could never truly believe something like that.#
Im not dumb, I dont want to risk it. If I dont believe in god, and then I die and there is a god. What the hell am I going to say? I was too lazy to just say I believe?
And that conversation would probably go like this.
God: Dude wtf, why didnt you like believe?
You: Maybe because you let millions of good, innocent people die.
God: Umm...everytime someone dies, new people are born...what are you bitching about. Besides the good ones are here basking in heaven, and wouldnt want to go back even if i forced them.
You: or maybe it was because you never responded to my prayers at all, and let bad stuff happen to me all the time.
God: Pff, every time you pray its, I want this, and I want that. Besides did you lose an arm, or a leg? Were you born disabled? No, so stop bitching and do something great with what i gave you. If your not a good person why should I accept all your prayers
God: Oh, well I love you still.. but hey, I'm going to send you to hell anyway now.. since you didn't believe in me and all.
O and in the 3 books(Torah, Bible, Qu'ran) refusing to believe is the worst sin.

So your defense is "we have a book that tells us about it, so it must be real"
God, a magical sky man creating everything.. doesn't make sense. I believe in science, things that actually have good theories behind them instead of just saying there's some all-powerful being who does everything..
And you don't seem to get it, for a person like me who things logically about things I can't suddenly start believing God is real just like that, not REALLY believe in him.. I'd just be kidding myself.
And you don't know enough about me to say God: Pff, every time you pray its, I want this, and I want that. Besides did you lose an arm, or a leg? Were you born disabled? No, so stop bitching and do something great with what i gave you. If your not a good person why should I accept all your prayers

I would love to believe in God or life after dead but unfortunately I can't make that big a leap of faith without any logic.

we don't twin fang ... there was once an experiment some years ago .. they let ppl die whop made contract and r okay with that... they let them be away that long so they could reanimate them in the last second.... the whole experiment was about life after death.... some say they saw relatuves.. some say they've been flyin.... and some saw a white light ... u could say wow! there's heaven ... but the true thing is that our subconcious made this pictures before they died cause they desired them without knowin it... the electric impulses have been controlled 2 .. that's why they came to that conclusion...they dreamed of what they thought last... still nothin is proved... wut we know for sure is that our body will become part of the earth .. so logically i believe htat our mind our intelligent existenec stops at the same time when we die ...

[b]So your defense is "we have a book that tells us about it, so it must be real"
Ya, just like there is a chemistry book that tells you magical chemistry things, but how do you know thats real? have you actually tried it?
God, a magical sky man creating everything.. doesn't make sense. I believe in science, things that actually have good theories behind them instead of just saying there's some all-powerful being who does everything..
Protons and electrons, little magical ball thingies that make water. Thats as hard to believe as god. Yet there is a book that tells you about it, and you read it and you dont deny it...your probably an angry teenager
And you don't seem to get it, for a person like me who things logically about things I can't suddenly start believing God is real just like that, not REALLY believe in him.. I'd just be kidding myself.
What do you honestly think logically about, your just mad about something in your life. Maybe you feel like god let you down.

Kamendex... What exactly do you think faith is?
Saying the you believe does not equal to believing. And saying you've believed all yur life without doubting is completely stupid and a lie.
What a stupid scenario...
God: So do you believe in me?
Baby: Wagaga goh... *drools*
God: ... No? Okay.
*sends baby to hell*
Do you realize how stupid that is? I'm now even wondering about some terrorists who sacrifice themselves and think they're martyrs or something...
Terrorist: God! I believe in you! I killed 100000 people for you!
God: My faithful one! You're allowed to heaven! With all those people you killed!
...
Rubbish, if there is any kind of judgement at the end of our life, then God will not be judging us on our faith but rather on our actions in life, on our reasons. And problems.
Could you ask someone who's been treated and educated in such a way, or who just had bad genes, which pushed him to kill not to kill? No. He's made that way. It happens, is it God's will?
Nah, it's all human's. To decide what is wrong and what isn't. We decide, we set the limit.
The only interest i can find in those religious books is that they go over laws which all human should obey to live peacefully now. And that is the most important. The problem is: right now, some laws re outdated. As we learn, we change, and what we accept as normal changes too.
I don't have any faith. What i call God is just everything that exists and i won't bother to personify him in the purpose of making him do what i care.
I'm not dead either. But i can tell you that until you die, there's no good reason to bother about what comes after. You've got a life and death means that life ends. What comes after is something else and shouldn't possibly affect the way you live now.
In fact, as you don't know, you can speculate all you want and decide what you care.

If you guys tell yourselves you will die, then that will happen. I tell myself I am not dying until I have been satisfied with my life for at least two days straight.
But if some crackpot hyperchristian priest locks me in a cellar and starves me to death I will tell God at my judgement for heaven or hell that I dont want heaven. Just give me a weapon to punish that poor sod who put me here.

Religions are beliefs, not scienctific facts. And yes i have a belief, christian, but i dont KNOW its all true, i simply believe it.

06-03-2005, 04:26 AM
hmm yes, science is not only based around facts but mostly theories that are yet to be disproven, which is what a lot of science is, theories that are yet to be disproven and believed by the majority of people.
A theory can never be proven correct by experiments (therefore its called a theory not a fact), only proven wrong by experiment.
You can do 10000 experiments that support a theory and then 1 can be done that does not support it and that theory is incorrect.
Take the theory of the sun revolving around the earth, only a few hundred years ago it was accepted as fact, but soon after it was proven wrong and replaced by what we now consider fact that the Earth revolves around the sun.
kinda gone off topic... but yeah.....

I hope you're joking.... Otherwise my faith in the power of the human mind is shattered. Dead people... Have a really hard time getting on the internet, being, you know, dead and everything.
As to what happens after death, observations state that you kinda cease having brain waves. That's a tad bit detrimental to the ability to exist, you know. So my bet is, you really won't care by the time you're actually dead, cause you won't be around to care.

^actually, it's said that if we get our heads chopped off we don't die until 7 seconds after. Well, at least that's when the nerves stop functioning. So if we die, that means our nerves and organs stops functioning. Many people have known when people die thier nerves are not completely dead, some dead people can still move a bit a day after they died.
Meaning if some guy died at his computer typing in this forum there's a chance he could've finished typing the rest of his sentence before his body stopped functioning.
Oh, and I really don't know, I just hope it just ends it was fun but after 40ish everything is hectic, judging by the looks of my father.

I could tell you what I think, but its probably not what you want to hear. You want to hear words of relaxation. whatever your belief is, believe. Thats all any of us can really do, isn't. If we believe with all our heart and do the right things when we think its right, is what makes us who we are. So believe in your beliefs with all your heart and I'll do the same with mine. Maybe one day, they'll conflict (if they haven't already) and maybe they won't. Heaven or Hell, whichever it is, I'll go to it and stay their, because I did what I believed was right.

Well to be honest every piece of evidence points to their being no afterlife . Certain facts such as when a person has a part of their brain damaged can no longer perform certain mental calculations suggests that the Brain is nothing more then a biological machine and their is no soul once we die . Lobotomies take away your ability to feel emotions , so emotions cant be an element of your soul . Take the Terri schiavo case - her brain was completely gone , yet she was technically still alive . What is left in her that can be attributed to some kind of soul ?
Nay , all the evidence we have points to the brain being our only source of reason and when the brain can no longer function we no longer live . Their is no soul to fall back on . I know that I can always hope , I do . I really hope that I am wrong . Just dont count on it . Chances are very very good that the afterlife is a man made concept to deal with the fear of his end and is a complete myth . When you die your done .
We die, our bodies stop functioning, our brain ceases to be active, and we are slowly decomposed in the ground, generally in a contraption known as a coffin.
Been there, done that. If we have an Immortal soul, great. If not - I won't be around to care, will I?

Ecclesiastes 9:5
5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
John 11:11-14
11 He said these things, and after this he said to them: “Laz′a·rus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” 12 Therefore the disciples said to him: “Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well.” 13 Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. 14 At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them outspokenly: “Laz′a·rus has died,
Ecclesiastes 9:10
10 All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She´ol(grave), the place to which you are going.
Acts 7:60
60 Then, bending his knees, he cried out with a strong voice: “Lord, do not charge this sin against them.” And after saying this he fell asleep [in death].
Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20
19 For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20 All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.
Job 14:13-15
13 O that in She´ol you would conceal me,
That you would keep me secret until your anger turns back,
That you would set a time limit for me and remember me!
14 If an able-bodied man dies can he live again?
All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait,
Until my relief comes.
15 You will call, and I myself shall answer you.
For the work of your hands you will have a yearning.
Psalm 13:3;
3 Do look [upon me]; answer me, my God.
Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,
1 Thessalonians 4:13
13 Moreover, brothers, we do not want YOU to be ignorant concerning those who are sleeping [in death]; that YOU may not sorrow just as the rest also do who have no hope.
Psalm 146:4
4 His spirit(life force) goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish.
John 5:28, 29;
28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
Luke 23:43.
43 And he said to him: “Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise.”
Even the Bible compares Death to Sleep. When you die nothing happens, it's like a deep sleep.

What happens when you die? Well, that is one of the great philosophical questions. However, physically, we know that your heart stops, your blood stops pumping, your brain activity ceases, and you lose control of your muscles, usually causing you to wet and soil yourself.
There is no evidence of anything else happening, but I'm happy to let others believe what they will. If there is indeed nothing else afterwards, we get... nothing. There will be nothing afterwards, just like the billions of years of nothing before you were born.

Wow....this is one of the dumbest question I've heard in a while. How would you honestly expect anyone to know? Religious or Otherwise.

I know what will happen. Your body gets eaten by worms.
There is a very real and valid answer to this question.
As a microbiologist I find your question fascinating,
mainly because my favorite little microbes play a large part in what
happens to a human body after death. Some people might find it
disgusting, but if you look at it from the level of the microbes,
insects, and other animals involved it is just a normal part of life. Be
prepared anyway because this isn't going to be pretty.
First of all let's look at what happens to the human body at the time of
death and soon after. At the very moment of death the heart stops
beating and the lungs stop breathing. This means that the cells in the
body will no longer receive blood and oxygen. Since the blood is no
longer being pumped through the body it will drain from the blood vessels at the top of the body and collect in the blood vessels on the lower part of the body. The upper part of the body will become pale and the lower part of the body will become dark. If the person is lying on their back, the front of their body and face will be very pale or even grey while their back will be much darker and look almost like it is bruised. This is called lividity or liver mortis and is one of the first things that a scientist will look at to try to determine when someone died and if they were moved after death.
At this point most of the cells in the body are still not dead. While
the brain cells die in the first few minutes after the heart stops,
muscle cells can live for several hours and skin and bone cells can stay
alive for days! How is this possible? Well, the cells use a different
type of respiration than when the heart and lungs were working. While
the person was alive the cells used aerobic respiration (with oxygen),
but after death the cells continue to survive using what is called
anaerobic respiration (without oxygen). However, one of the by-products of anaerobic respiration is lactic acid. Lactic acid eventually builds up and causes the muscles to stiffen. This is the same thing that happens to a person's legs when they run a long distance. The heart and lungs can't keep up with the demand so the leg muscles start to use anaerobic respiration. In a living person this lactic acid will eventually be cleared out by the circulatory system, but in a dead body this isn't possible so the entire body stiffens. This is called rigor
mortis. Rigor mortis usually starts about 3 hours after death and lasts
36 hours. Eventually all of the cells die and the body can no longer
fight of bacteria. The cells' own enzymes and the enzymes of bacteria
begin to cause the body to decompose and the muscles lose their stiffness. Like liver mortis, rigor mortis is another tool that scientists can use to determine the time of death.
OK. Now comes the actual process of decomposition, or breakdown and decay of the body. Decomposition can be broken down into 5 steps:
1. Initial decay
2. Putrefaction
3. Black putrefaction
4. Butyric putrefaction
5. Dry decay
Let's look at each of these steps in more detail.
Step 1: Initial decay
Initial decay occurs from 0 to 3 days after death. Although the body
appears fresh from the outside, many things are going on inside the body to contribute to the process of decomposition. The bacteria that are normally inside the intestines of a living person begin to feed on the contents of the intestine and the intestine itself. Eventually these
bacteria break out into the body cavity and start to digest other organs. Since the intestine is no longer intact, the body's digestive
enzymes, which were kept safely inside the intestine and stomach, leak out and spread through the body helping to break down more organs and tissues. At the same time, enzymes inside individual cells leak out and digest the cell and its connections with other cells.
Let's not forget about the insects! From the moment of death flies are
attracted to the smell of the decomposing body. Without the normal
defenses of a living body, these flies are able to lay their eggs around
wounds and other body openings (mouth, nose, eyes. etc.). Within 24
hours most of these eggs hatch and the larvae, or maggots, move into the body to feed on the dead tissue.
Step 2: Putrefaction
Putrefaction occurs from 4 to 10 days after death. As the bacteria are breaking down the tissues and cells they are also producing a lot of gas. These gases include hydrogen sulfide, methane, cadaverine, and putrescine. All of these gases really stink, but insects love the
smell. More and more flies start to show up along with beetles and mites. The gases also cause the body to inflate forcing more fluids out
of the cells and blood vessels and into the body cavity. This provides
even more food for the bacteria and a nice warm living space for the
maggots.
Step 3: Black putrefaction
This stage occurs from 10 to 20 days after death. The bloated body
eventually collapses and the flesh has gotten creamy (like cottage
cheese). The exposed parts of the body have turned black and the body really begins to stink. A lot of the fluids have now leaked out of the body into the soil attracting more insects and mites. These insects and mites will eventually consume most of the flesh on the body. Bacteria are still at work also, and will consume the flesh if there are no insects around. The temperature of the body also increases due to all of the insect activity.
Step 4: Butyric fermentation
Butyric fermentation occurs from 20 to 50 days after death. All of the
remaining flesh on the body is removed during this time and the body
starts to dry out. It has a "cheesy" smell caused by butyric acid. This
smell attracts a bunch of new organisms to the body. Mold starts to grow on the part of the body that is touching the ground and a lot of beetles show up. Since the body is beginning to dry out maggots are no longer able to eat the tough flesh. Beetles, however, are able to chew through this tough material such as skin and ligaments.
Step 5: Dry decay
This stage occurs from 50 to 365 days after death. The body is now dry and decays very slowly. Tineid moths and bacteria eventually eat the person's hair, leaving nothing but bones. As long as there are no large animals around to carry them away, the bones can remain almost
indefinitely.
That brings us to the end of the decomposition process. Most of these steps depend a lot on the climate. Temperature and moisture and the presence of insects will affect how long this whole process takes. Decomposition will occur much faster in the summer than in the winter and also will take longer in a body that is buried than a body that is left exposed on the ground.

When you die your personality and consciousness ceases to exist. You only live on in what you have left behind, the knowledge you have passed on, and in the memories of those who knew you. The only true immortality is found in the matter that makes up your body. Celebrate the brief moment it coelesced as you before each atom continues it's endless journey through time.
Rejoice in the grandeur Earth that preceded you, that gave you life and in a Universe that will abide without you.
