Black Cat

Good news for all fans of the manga, the ultra awesome series called black cat is now being made into an anime. Whats even better is that the studio that is making Black Cat is also the studio responsible for the awesome manga to anime translation of Basilisk. So I have high hopes for this series lets just hope Gonzo doesn't mess up.

Now for my two cents on why you want to see this series and/or read the manga.

First of all to make it easier for you guys to relate to it I will be refrencing other anime titles to give you a better idea of the greatness

Trigun- Awesome gun slinging, the main character does everything from shooting bullets out of the air to deflecting them with his gun. Plus later in the series he pulls out a magical ricochet shot. The main character also does not want to kill.

Get Backers/Naruto- The main characters sidekick has a magical eye that lets him see into the future. He also gets the eye in a very similar fashion in which Kakashi got his eye.

HunterXHunter- The main group of bad guys have an ability very similar to the nen system usend in HunterXHunter.

Cowboy Bebop- Gun fights and bounty hunting

Now for other reasons on why to see it
- A string user (He doesnt show up till much later but we all know string users kick much ass, in fact this should be the only reason you need to see it)
- For the most part a good story
- Hot babes, I suppose the guys are drool worthy for you women out there
- Chronos the Time Guardians
- A little robot girl that can shape shift
- Guy with an eyepatch
- Cause I said so
- Main character acts very cat like
-You also get to see some real cats (animated of course)

well i can explain since i do have the manga. not sure if the anime will follow the manga. i really didnt enjoy the end part of black cat. but its good.
well the story is about this ex-assain named train who used to work for this organization know as kuronosu. he has a 13 tatto on his chest i think. well he betrayed kurnosu and he became a sweeper AKA bounty hunter. he partnerd up with svin bolfedo and later they will meet this girl who is like geneticully enhanced with nanomachine which she can create stuff likes swords, hamer, and even wings to fly. Her name is Eva. they also meet a catburgler named linsilet who kind of helps them out but she actually offers them jobs and stuff. Well it start off good then well in my opinion aroud volume 15 that's where it went bad. but i hope the anime is good.

black cat's a cool series and all, but i kinda felt it just took a lot of crap from another series. you know, the legendary status, the refusal to kill, the attitude that doesn't fit a legendary killer, fighting bad guys despite being feared around the world.
reminds me a lot of cowboy bebop and kenshin and trigun....

The plot is quite similar to Bebop/Trigun, as has been already mentioned... but with much more of a shounen flavor (all kinds of typical shounen powers, fighting energy stuff [ie: chakra], power-ups, etc.).

I've seen the first episode of Black Cat's anime adaption by Gonzo, and if you have too - discuss!

It seems as though the anime will be completely different from the manga.

Man, did the opening rock. Starting with Creed's rose was a nice effect. The graphics seem very good too, very well-animated. I think the anime is based on 2 years before in the manga; to the present in the manga. They haven't even showed Sven's name, only in the preview.

It was good I guess, great art and well animated. I did like the opening as well.

However their was something that seemed a little strange to me, and that's the completely new plot. Admittably it's early days and they might go onto the manga plot at a later date so this isn't too bad a point, yet I'm already getting a bad feeling...

It may be as The_Future_Three said and that this is showing two years before or something, but Eve shows up and looks no older than she is at the current time in the manga. They'll probablt find some way to incorporate this without leaving any holes, but it doesn't leave me with much confidence in them.

Oh, and showing Sven's Vision Eye and so much of Train's past so early peeved me as well.

As a side note Sven's VA does Axel in KH2 and Creed's does Sephiroth, so they're automatically awesome in my books. :thumbs

I've read the manga, and ya...the anime is already very different.
But I was still pleased. The music was great, great OP and ED, and well animated. It also seems to be taking a more darker approach than the manga(except for the ED...which is cute:P )

There are striking differences between the anime and the manga. If it's like this now, I wonder how it will turn out later. Maybe like Full Metal Alchemist?

(Eventhough the FMA anime was great, it's totally different from the manga)

But anyway, I loved it. But the drawing style is quite different from that of the manga (see avatar, that is Train from the manga), and I can't seem to match the current voice actors voice with the Train that is to come in the anime. :P

I'm loving the anime series so far. Sven is my favorite character.

Is it so bad that the manga and anime are different? The manga looks like it goes on a long time, I think this series won't be over 13 or 26 episodes.

I've only seen Episode 1 of this series, and I have not read the manga.

The OP (Daiya no Hana) and ED (Namidaboshi) are both good. Sometimes, an anime's soundtrack gets my attention toward a series...

Though, I have no idea how the story will go, but from my first impression, it's something that I would look forward to. Not to mention the first few seconds of the episode (before the OP) featured a very fluid fight scene. Hope to see more of that, too. :)

Im a sucker for OPs an EDs so I definately gotta check this out. Anyone know where on IRC or http ddls I can get this series? Cuz my school puts u on 56k for uploading too much which BT always does (its happened to me twice, once I was put there for half a year).

I also like the manga to black cat, tho I felt some of it had been ripped straight from cowboy bebop (Main character has history with secret organization he left, which his old partner from now going deranged planning to control everything and has a new sidekick with an eyepatch. And theres other things along the way int he manga but Im not trying to make this post spoiler central. I like how Rinslet shares my BDay!
oh and I heard someone was looking for ch 161+, I dont think its been scanlated by anyone yet. tho the raws came out in jump a while ago. And I know the tankubons themselves have more chapters left.

Edit: NM found the channel for the anime #bakakozou on irc.rizon.net. As for the manga #ctg on irc.rizon.net did alot, like the first 133 chapters. Im not sure whose doing it now but Ive been getting more chapters from the Mirrors bot on #lurk at irchighway which seems up to date.
Also I think its Gonzo that doesnt have a good track record with manga to anime adaptions. They completely ruined Gantz IMO. Hope the same thing doesnt happen with BC.

So far I'm really into Black Cat (along with a few other series this season). So far all three episodes have been great I must say, with each leading up to a satisfying yet painful cliffhanger (like the way episode 2 ended XD).

Im liking the anime alot. Great intro crazy ed, and the animation is excellent. i also like the lighting use. But with the anime changing things around like this I wonder if train is going to be the same, not having as much time to develop.

wow. episode 4 was the best episode yet. I think this may be the best, if not one of, shows of the year.

The scene with BC running down the hall with Sven following him (you'll know what I mean when you see it), the sense of rhythm in it is amazing.

Im not sure if I like this episode, mostly due to the changes made on the manga-story. Because in the manga, it was Saya that broke Creeds' sword with her Reflect Shot. Here she pretty much shot him once, ran away then proceeded to get killed.

But hey, according to the preview for the next episode, my favorite character may make an appearence :D *fingers crossed*

As has been said before, the manga greatly differs from the anime, yet I believe she died pretty much the same in both.Though in the manga, Saya was about two years dead when the series started, and was only shown in flashbacks later on. The anime shunted around Trains timeline quite a bit..

Well as said before the manga story is very different but it is hinted pretty early that creed killed someone dear to Train.

Later on you get to see a flashback (volume 13 for anyone that's interested. Funny coincidence, right? =3 ) that has the whole Saya and Creed thing, except there Saya actually fights back somewhat. But she is still a pretty minor character concidering that her only purpose is to give Train a reason to hate creed.

I may have missed it myself, but I don't think we ever find out the name of the guy.

Train is 23 years old. Haven't seen episode 6 yet myself, but in the manga she does put up a pretty good fight against creed.

Actually they do tell us quite a lot about him. Or actually, not exactly but sufficient I guess. Although be aware that this is probably a big spoiler that is pretty much only in Train's background. But if you wanna know...

His name was Sardius Nickroke, an assasin. After killing Train's parents he picked Train up for some reason and began teaching him using a gun. He trained him in becoming an assasin and Train was intent to revenge his parents, so he trained to grow stronger. But Sardius was killed and Train ended up becoming enraged and sad. This I guess was pretty much the motivation for Train to grow even stronger and eventually join Chronos.

I'm pretty sure the 1st episode showed this very thing occurring. You saw Saya's body laying motionless and Train and Creed fighting...although I thought that scene wasn't going to come up for awhile...so, I am suprised that scene came so early in the series :crying...

Why are we putting up spoiler tags for episode 6 stuff? The fansub already came out..so, it's I wouldn't blame anyone if they just said this stuff without spoilers. I'll only be pissed off if someone posted this stuff when only the raw was out.

Actually in the manga she completely changes him, he becomes a "wussy" as you put it :smile-big . He should join up with Sven and Eve and become a sweeper soon. Though in the manga he was with sven from the start.

yeah I know that I have readed the manga aswell but as it is the anime starts totally differend from it so I am trying to look at it somewhat differend then giving the same opinion as in the manga. But I ment to say that she was making Train he fighting style differend in a way of that he doesn't have to kill if it ain't neccessary he was slowly changing wich shouldn't be ofcourse she made Train smile and all that is great I like him smile but his actions shouldn't be determind by her.

Now, haven't not read hte manga at all, I'm loving the anime. So what if it's a retelling. I believe the manga is finished, right? So they can't mess with the series details because they are all there. I like that they decided to put things in chronological order. *shrugs*

Still can't wait to read the manga in March. Just for the different perspective.

Yosh! Janus (Jenos, wtf?) Hazard has finally arrived. For once Im more than happy of the changes made by the anime-team, since if they followed the manga he wouldn't have appeared for another thirty-ish episodes. He was badass enough while still maintaining his character very well.

I mean how can you not like him? He's a string-suer, he's friendly and he's funny.

I did like the whole thing with the bell, the way it was connected to the cat in the storybook was neat too. I wonder if the author of the manga had that in mind when he did give Train that strange bell around his neck?

Secret Organisations controlling the world
Evil group who use superpowers
An extremely skilled gunman
An eye that can see into the future

The list goes on and on... lets just face it, most manga (and of course anime) within the shounen-genre often use some of these components. I don't mind to tell you the truth, it's more or less the opposite! Because the authors always finds new way to carry out these things, new limits, characters etc...

In fact string-users are among my favorite, they are always damn cool. Be it Janus, Kazuki (getbackers) it is interesting, cool and highly lethal (:laugh )

You know the one thing that stuck to me from that episode was when train decided to put on the bell that eve wanted him to wear, it was a real sweet gesture :amuse

The episode had a little of everything, comedy (The television show in the background kinda reminded me of a Gundam series :laugh), action, a little drama. Pretty good, IMO. Number XII is a pretty cool dude, not the attitude I expected from a Chronos...but cool nonetheless.

I was kinda dissappointed in Eve as well. I mean she is the ultimate Bio weapon, so I thought she would put up more of a fight. I wasn't expecting her to win but at least put it in more effort. Well maybe she'll get more time to shine later in the series.

I guess right now, Eve is still trying to find herself. After all, she doesn't want to think of herself as a killing machine, so she just want to go out and see what the world has to offer. She's absorbing all types of knowledge about the world, (Beauty, history, sense of right and wrong, etc....). I just wished she would start kicking butt sooner and on a more consistent basis :P

Looks like Kyouko has fallen for Train. I thought it was hilarious how she pretended to be in trouble so Train could rescue her. Kyouko's a lot like an anime fan-girl for Train. She's already acting very possessive of him as well. I wonder what would happen if another girl became attracted to Train and she'd find out about it.

That's great news, Funimation's been able to pick up a bunch of great series lately. Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai 7, Trinity Blood, Basilisk, and now Black Cat. It's the illegit ones (using that term loosely, since all fansubbing is illegal technically) that keep subbing past a licensed that need to get C&D.

Woah what the hell happened to this series? I watched the first episode and thought it was really cool but somehow they managed to killed it in just 8 episodes. One minute I'm seeing Train as one bad mofo fighting on par with this Creed guy and then 2 hours later he is some dorky and lame looking guy that has trouble beating a giant green afro dude. Then I see the cool mercenary Sven dressing as a chick to lure the afro dude out. I mean really, how is it possible that in the first episode I'm watching a cool action series and then in the 9th I'm watching a bad comedy one?

latest news I've read is that Oyasumi will continue subbing untill they hear directly from funi or gonzo regarding it (they've had no c&d or anything), untill then they won;t conclude the series as being licensed. All they've heard are rumours so it looks like we'll be getting more BC at least till they here something conclusive


That's great news to hear, hopefully they will be able to go through the entire series before it gets subbed (will if it's only 26 episodes, it shouldn't be a problem...but if it's more then....)

You do realize that on Funi DVDs, if they do dub the songs, you can change the audio on the OP and ED back to Japanese, right? :wink :P

Though we didn't get to see Shiki really show anything in this episode aside from holding down someone, but I guess we already saw some of his abilites during the Train/Sephira fight so no need to repeat. Well, the episode was very good, as I pointed out earlier with a couple of pics, the apostle of stars were introduced. Amd I must admit it was one of the better episodes thus far. I can't imagine how Train and the group are going to tackle this organization.

Yeah, it's kinda unfair how the whole group have abilities granted by the potion and here you have Train, Sven and Eve. Yeah, Train is a hardcore assassain, Sven has that ability with that eye and Eve is the ultimate Bio weapon *although she needs to step it up a little* but they are still out manned and out powered to say the least O_O

Creed is a sick, twisted, sadistic psycho-path. I wouldn't put it past them. His underlings are fucked up too. Kyouko is the scariest one because she acts so cute and innocent.

I could see it as a possibility, because plain and simple they are outmatched. And if they win with just their small group, I'd have to question the story feasibility, but maybe in the next couple of episodes we see some development that might lead us to believe they actually have a shot against this group. Kyouko's just plain cute and deadly xDDD

I'd say Train, Sven, Eve, and Rinslet have an advantage in that they aren't twisted, fucked up, sadistic, psycho-paths. Also, they could get some help from Chronos. Remember both Chronos and the rag tag Sweepers have a common enemy in the Apostles and Creed.

I think Durham's true ability hasn't been fully explained unless that Tao drink just made him a more accurate shooter xDDD

And they really need to shore up (Train's group) and improve less they get their butts handed to them. But I'm sure over the next couple of episodes, well get to see some development ^_^

Yeah, the way this series has prsented itself, Jenos looks like a integral figure in thie storyline, so I doubt he'd be dispatch with so easily. Besides, Jenos presents a contrasting side from Apostle of the Stars and Train's group.

Which is exactly why I don't think Jenos will go anywhere anytime soon. Train has a serious and light side to him *sometimes his attitude change seem so out of place*. Jenos is more balanced and seems to the same whether he's in a serious fight or checking out a girl XD. Creed is a more focused character, with the Apostle of Stars and his goal of brining over Train to his side. They all represent different and conflicting points of views and attitudes but they keep it very interesting.

Yeah, I hope Sven doesn't fall behind in this series. They need all the help they can get to battle this group. I hope Eve gets in more action as well. Development has to take place in this series, and I don't just mean character development, they physically have to get stronger. Although I'm suspecting they well. I just hope it isn't one of those cases where protagonists just get use to the enemies and slowly but sure learn to man-handle them. I have to see something logial that shows that they have improved...

I guess Train will have to be even more resourceful. Unless there's a weakness that we've yet to hear about Tao, but I'm a little reluctant to believe that. And Eve does need to improve. I know there trying to prove that Eve has more to her than just being a bio-weapon but she hasn't been as effective as I'd thought she'd be, but maybe well be treated to more action from her in the later episodes. And as for Sven, I don't mind him using more brain the brawn, but he might seriously need to upgrade his gadgets or show off some new ones he has yet to reveal O_O

Yeah, I alwyas believed that the main thing she's been missing was training in physical combat. Her skills aren't refined enough. I'm sure that's a result of her trying to pull away from that "demon" role, but she has got to realize the reason for her fighting is to protect and help her friends and not neccessarily an evil thing.

Yeah, it would be kinda interesting to see a team-up with not neccessarily chronos (as a whole), but at least with Jenos as they do share a common goal. Sure, it would be a temporary pact between the groups, but I could imagine it would have great action sequences :amuse

Well, if you're asking if there's any corrupted things still occuring within chronos, I don't believe so, then again the anime could surprise me. I thought that Creed was the only dissenting voice in that organization.

And yeah, I think there wil be some kind of temp alliance for a short time. I just hope there's no double-crossing during the team-up..

Funi= Funimation. They've worked on anime such as Dragonballz and YuYu Hakusho. And over the last few years have been snapping up the latest anime left and right and licensing them.

I think oyusami is doing a great job subbing the anime *hey, there the only ones doing the job XD*

They come out weekly, however, there's really no set day. It usually comes out sometime between tuesday and thursday.

However, I seriously wonder if any of the characters tried or were forced to drink it and if it would kill them. The potion does have that affect.
