I am currently watching episode 44 of Naruto: Shippuden, and in it, Yamato speaks to a clone of himself (created by his mokuton/wood element jutsu's) by a radio transmitter. I do not know everything about the various cloning jutsu's in Naruto, but shouldn't that have been unnecessary? Doesn't each clone perceive everything that each other clone perceives constantly? Wouldn't the Yamato with Sakura and Naruto be able to see what the Yamato observing Sai and Orochimaru saw, and vice-versa?

Well, I can't say to much because I would spoil (manga related).
But yeah, it's pointless and unnecessary and to me it seemed as a mistake from Kishi.
Anyway, you'll find out later why.

A person and their clones can't perceive what each other perceives. So the Yamato with Naruto and Sakura can't see what the other one is seeing and needs the headset.

I have read the manga, and am up the current chapter, but I cannot remember the reason for the situation that I have described above. That is why I was asking.

Not entirely true.
Although how more I think about it, the more my part isn't really true either.
Kage-bunshins will automaticly send their own short experiences to the original body when they dissapear - but when they dissapear only.
Now, Yamato needs to be in contact with his clone all the time, so it wouldn't make sense for him to let the clone dissapear and share the information because then he would have no clone to spy on Orochimaru.

The walkie talkie was perfectly fine, nothing bad about it... never went against any law created by kishi. So no, it is necessary and no it was not a mistake from kishi and/or the anime team

As Eldymion said, the information is 'sent' to the original body only after the kage bunshin disappears.
