Okay so I haven't been here for.. wow.. So so so so long. So please excuse me if I'm posting in the wrong section, Mod please move this to the appropriate section if it is in the wrong spot.

What follows is for only those that have read to the latest manga chapter (385) so I'm just gonna put it all in a spoiler.

In this latest chapter Itachi reveals that there is another survivor, coincidentally his partner in his betrayal. We've heard his name before, the the Nine Tails speaks of him earlier when Sasuke confronts him in Naruto, his name: Madara. Up until this latest chapter we haven't known much about him, granted we still don't, but we are given a picture. From this picture I noticed something familiar...

okay before I go on I may be utterly and completely wrong here so please correct me with solid evidence of me being wrong. Don't go flaming me this is just a theory. Provide chapter number and page if I am indeed wrong otherwise I'm just putting this out there.

Itachi says that Madara was one of the founders of the leaf, naturally sasuke disagrees and such but what if. Thinking of that what if (yeah I have no life :-\) I thought he resembled a character we've seen in the past, granted not living, but we've seen him none the less. First lets take a look at the shaded image of Madara we see at the end of ch. 385:

I don't know about you guys here at the Vally of the End but I think Madara looks a whole lot like the monument Sasuke is standing on. I don't remember if there was a history given on these two monuments and I haven't looked into it too deeply so maybe its there and well.. I'm retarded. I believe that Madara may have been one of the founders who was jealous of the second Hokage and after perhaps faking his death he gained control of the fox and then released him onto the Leaf. As such I think that Itachi may have figured it but before he could take action he was somehow tricked or blackmailed into murdering the clan, with Madaras help, as Sasuke so put it: "Even you couldn't have killed the Leaf's entire military police on your own."

I just came upon this little theory so its not fully refined and there's probably a perfectly good rebuke out there, which I look forward to hearing. I don't have any theories on how he's stayed alive or anything but maybe this is true haha.

Well thats about it.. like I said I may be wrong please don't go flaming me if I'm so so so wrong but just give me a logical reason as to why. I've been reading Naruto since the start and I'm a fan that means I want to know as much as I can about the series and the universe. If I'm wrong then I can learn even more and find things that I may have overlooked. That is, after all, why I came back and posted here, I know how much knowledge is on this one site and indeed I believe its the best naruto site on the web. I may not be active but I check back regularly, even if I'm not on the forums a whole lot.

It already said in the Manga that the statue in the Valley of the end was Madara. I think it reshowed the picture of the statue then said Madaras name. Remember when Tobi was sitting on the statue when Jiraiya said the name Madara? and Tobi=Madara.

It is madara/ and the reason it was called the valley of the end is because konoha was just being made when the 1st hokage and madara were said to have powers that could contain bijuu. Therefore they had a battle for whom to be hokage and he probably kills the 1st, and then fakes a death with the kyuubi / sends it to attack konoha, then Yondaime or the 4th hokage seals it inside his firstborn naruto.

Its because VotE is where Madara and (Nidaime, if memory serves) had a huge battle, which carved that river/waterfall. Something along those lines.

And its a free sample of irony that UCHIHA Sasuke stands on the head of UCHIHA Madara. Perhaps Kishi is also telling us that Madara once left the leaf for himself, but Nidaime (still guessing XD) tried to stop him.

We'll find out once Kishi finishes with some other unresolved story that will interrupt the onslaught of Uchihistory.

It wasnt Nindaime it was Shodaime. I get them confused too. I still dont quite know if it was Nindaime or Shodaime who performed that Ultimate Darkness Jutsu when fighting The Third.
