Portugal intercepts threat message against France's Eiffel Tower

LISBON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese aviation authorities intercepted a conversation Thursday on a possible attack against the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, local media reported Friday.

The Santa Maria aerial center intercepted the conversation early Thursday on an attack against the Eiffel Tower through short-wave radio, according to police sources.

Portuguese officials were immediately wary of the situation and alerted their French counterparts, who are trying to identify the suspects involved in the telephone conversation by the territory surveillance services.

It was a "vague and confused" conversation that have put Portuguese and French officials on alert because other similar messages have been also intercepted on Internet in recent days on possible terrorist attacks against Paris, the reports added.

Well great the radical Islamics and Muslims are at it again. When will it ever stop with this crap. I am so tired of random bombings and attacks that I feel I want to destroy what all radical Muslims/Islamics believe, hold true, and their entire way of life just to end this entire thing.

We got them fooled! The structure is terrorist-proof: there's a hole in the middle of the tower. Planes wouldn't do any damage! MUAHAHAHAHA!

You know that agerians terrorists wanted to destroy the eiffel tower in 1993 or 1994, they took a plane and wanted to crash on the eiffel tower. They were stoped in Marseille by the GIGN.

I felt the same way when I was there. The Eiffel Tower is beautiful, and a symbol of everything good about humanity. The first ever steel structure built for a world fair displaying all the wonders of progress mankind had recently completed, a kind of capstone to the last century of human endeavor and thought. Standing opposed to it are the muslims, who brought down the buddhas of bamiyan, and now would bring down the Eiffel Tower--one side stands for progress, the other for backwardness. One is a symbol of light, a temple of the Enlightenment overlooking the beautiful central district of Paris, the other of darkness, destruction, and death, swathed in an all black burqa.

Interesting, there is a possibility that this could have been some sort of sick prank. That was done to the US military. Anyway, it's good to see that Portugal was able to intercept this conversation and warn Paris about the possible threat.

That's a nice way to put it, but from my point of view, Paris is also the city of dog shit and repeated public transports strikes ;)

I'm happy that you liked the Eiffel Tower :) I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip in Paris.

I did le male, unlike amaretti who thinks I never went there. I stayed in a hotel close to the arch de triumph, visited the louvre and the rodinn museum, ate the local baguettes and sugared dr. pepper (you have no idea, in America we use this shitty syrup substitute), the lemon ice cream, and everywhere was within easy walking/subway distance. Paris is the best, its reputation is well deserved. I even learned enough french to say "merci'" and "pardonn moi" etc. ;)

I'm fairly certain.

Today, as Alex and I wandered the streets of Aix-En-Provence, we stumbled upon the best, most delicious, fantastically wonderful drink we have had yet in France. It was in an international bookstore. In addition to being a bookstore, they advertised as “THE British Grocer in Provence.” We walked in, and there were shelves of new and used books mixed with shelves of (hopefully new, not used) canned food-stuffs from Great Britain. We wandered into the adjoining room and Alex stopped. She gasped. She shouted “Yes!” I whirled my head around to see what she was pointing at. There it was, in a giant, glass-door refrigerator. On the third shelf. In neat little rows. Glowing, no, pulsating with deliciousness. It was… a shelf of Dr Peppers

It had been over a month since the sweet, sugary goodness of an ice cold Dr Pepper had touched my lips. Even this morning I was receiving taunting e-mails from my own father about how delicious Dr Pepper was… but today that all changed. We bought a half-liter bottle, me resisting my urge to clear out the shelf, and had a baguette et Dr Pepper lunch on the main street. It was fannnnnntastic. Different, but the same. They bottle these in Prague, Czech Republic. Strange, huh? And when I tasted it I knew instantly (as many of we Dr Pepper Connoisseurs can do) that it was made with sugar and not corn syrup.

lol. There see? Go try some, best drink ever.

I was born in France and i live in France, i never saw a bottle of Dr Pepper in France. The first time i drink it was 2 or 3 years ago when i was in London.
Dr Pepper is owned by Coca Cola, we don't have Dr Pepper but we have Coca Cola Cherry, maybe the same drink inside.
I saw on wikipedia (in french) that De Pepper leave France few years ago.

I bet they don't even know the history of the Tower, they just think of it as another great thing that should be destroyed.
