Why do you think Orochimaru and his comrades keeps on wearing big ropes. I mean , isn't it weird for them to have those big ropes? The ropes are like bigger than their arms. It made them look bigger even if they're not. And, they look like they're goona use it for suicide or for any future use/s. What do you think is the reason why thre are ropes:amuse

Well I am not entirely sure of the reason that Orochimaru wears this rope/belt/fashion statement. However his "followers", if you will, appear to wear this in order to signify their loyalty to Orochimaru along with the Curse Seal.

The rope seems to be only worn by people Orochimaru deems capable of performing his tasks and/or finds useful (Sound 4, Kimimaro, Sasuke). I'm pretty sure all the fodder Sound Ninjas didn't wear a rope and just simply wore a purple version of Army camouflage as their standard apparel for combat.

It was just a style that Otokage shinobi wear. It makes them unique and easy to identify. I believe Chouji's dad is the only person who isn't loyal to the sound but still wears one.
