He;'s a big hit here in Australia (seeing as he's born here)

I recently bought his latest book (Six Sacred Stones) and I have read ALL of his books. His adrenaline pumping action is simply insane and I haven't really read an author that travels at a pace as fast as he does. Crichton, Ludlum and Clancy are close... but Reilly travels just way too fucking fast.

He's awesome.

He is really great at writing action, so far I have read Contest and Area 7.

Mother is...well she's Mother.

Could I get a synopsis on one of his better books? I'm always looking for an author that can write some riveting action scenes.

Sure:

Contest is the first book written by Matthew Reilly, and it has become one of the most sought-after books of all time. Since its original self-published print run of 1000 copies in 1996, Contest has been updated with 17 extra pages of new content for the Pan Macmillan Australian release in 2000, and revisited again in 2003 for US readers - adapted to incorporate the real-world New York Public Library architecture.

Set in a firm Science Fiction realm, Contest is the result of an interstellar gladiatorial conflict between seven sentient races. This time, Earth has been chosen to host the event, and Stephen Swain, with his daughter in tow, has been chosen to represent us in the arena. Although Earth may be participating, it is not participating of its own free will.

The ultimate blood sport has begun, and survival is only part of the problem.

Matthew Reilly's first commercially published book has gained international recognition and scored a place on the New York Times Bestseller list. Featuring more action than you can fit into a three-hour film, and enough plot twists to keep the best reader guessing, Ice Station is a landmark first novel.

Starring the recurring hero, Shane 'Scarecrow' Schofield, Ice Station is where it all begins; throwing Schofield and his team into one of the most volatile conflicts this side of all-out war.

With every country sporting an elite military unit competing for control of the scientific discovery of the century, the routine babysitting mission set upon the Marines becomes an explosive fight for survival and escape. Unfortunately, when you're trapped in a 5-level facility buried in the ice shelf, things don't always go as planned.

Stocked full of memorable stunts and loveable characters, Ice Station is the perfect blend of Hollywood and Literature.

Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, Matthew Reilly set about outdoing Ice Station when he began to create Temple. However, it was quite a challenge to outperform such a winning first novel. The answer, of course, was simple.

Instead of one action packed follow-up book, Matthew Reilly decided to write two stories in one. The twin threads of the story weave themselves together, all the while coming closer to the cataclysmic finale. One story follows the adventure of William Race and the team of US Army soldiers - the other leads us on a journey through 1535, the time of the Spanish Conquest of the Incas.

Once more in a race against time, the Linguist Professor from New York must decipher the manuscript as he runs through the battlefield, unlocking the mysteries of a centuries-old prophecy in order to save the world from total annihilation.

Coming back for a second stab at the formula that made Ice Station so popular, Matthew Reilly has created one of the most popular books in the action/thriller genre. With a loyal following of readers ages from the teens to the late eighty-year-olds and both male and female alike, Temple has smashed many barriers on its way to success.

Returning to the battlefield once again is Captain Shane M Schofield, reprising his role as the rough-and-ready, smart-but-tough Marine specialist. Along side him are his follow survivors from the Ice Station incident, only this time, they're not under orders to go into harm's way.

Now, malice seeks them out in a bizarre twist of fate which results in the amazing struggle which is Area 7. With plot twists and action sequences to rival its predecessor, this stand-alone sequel to Ice Station puts Schofield back on familiar territory as he fights for the survival of the free world.

Locked deep underground in the other climatic extreme, Schofield must brave bizarre secret experiments and the perils of Lake Powell to rescue the President of the United States from those who seek to kill him. But there's a catch. There's always a catch.

Ill prepared and out numbered, Schofield has been given the short end of the stick - which is sure to make an entertaining read.

Scarecrow is Matthew Reilly's fifth novel. It once again throws Captain Shane M Schofield into the spotlight as he is hunted relentlessly by enemy unknown. The why and the how has yet to be revealed, but when a man like Schofield has a price on his head, you know he will do anything within his power to make sure that the head-hunters don't make off with their prize: His Life.

Scarecrow is the third book in the Shane Schofield series. Not yet released, it has been promised to deliver even more thrilling action as the last two Schofield books combined. With new exotic locations and weaponry, plus a returning cast of old friends from the battlefield, Scarecrow is set to take the literary world by storm, and leave many a reader gasping for breath.

Coming to Australia November 2003. More news as events warrant.

Originally released free online at www.hovercarracer.com, Matthew Reilly launched an online phenomenon never before attempted. Hover Car Racer shot to a virtual number one with an estimated 180,000 readers (minimum) worldwide.

Hover Car Racer sees the heroic Jason Chaser - a boy in a man's world - pitted against the cutthroat future world of near-supersonic racing. Combating with obstacles both on and off the track, both physical and psychological, the 8-part serialised novel chronicled Jason's fight to keep his head above water.

From the International Race School located on the now-privatised island of Tasmania to the coastlines of Italy and then the mean streets of New York City, even the elite of professional racers can buckle under the pressure. The question now is: Will Jason Chaser, Hover Car Racer, live to see his future on the pro circuit?

Targeted towards the sophisticated young adult market, Hover Car Racer contains the trademark Matthew Reilly styled novel in a Saturday-Morning-Cartoon format which is sure to keep everybody - young and old - reading till the very end.

I'll try and find the Blurb of his newly acclaimed Best Sellers: Seven Ancient Wonders and Six Sacred Stones.

Six Sacred Stones was released about 2 weeks ago here and hit No. 2 on bestsellers on release. It's now No. 1 and is expected to stay there for a good 2-3 months or so.

Seven Deadly Wonders

Synopsis
It is the biggest treasure hunt in history with contesting nations involved in a headlong race to locate the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. 4500 years ago, a magnificent golden capstone sat at the peak of the Great Pyramid of Giza. It was a source of immense power, reputedly capable of bestowing upon its holder absolute global power. But, then it was divided into seven pieces and hidden, each piece separately, within the seven greatest structures of the age. Now it's 2006, and the coming of a rare solar event means it's time to locate the seven pieces and rebuild the capstone. Everyone wants it - from the most powerful countries on Earth to gangs of terrorists...and one daring coalition of eight small nations. Led by the mysterious Captain Jack West Jr, this determined group enters a global battlefield filled with booby-trapped mines, crocodile-infested swamps, evil forces and an adventure beyond imagining. "More action, hair-raising stunts and lethal hardware than you'd find in four Bond movies. Reilly is the hottest action writer around." - "Evening Telegraph".

The ending (which I will not reveal here) is really good in this book, very hard to see it comming.
