Sai vs Shikamaru.

In this battle, I've set up ANBU Root/Team 7 member Sai vs Team 10 member and genius Shikamaru.

Both have knowledge of the others abilites, but there is no prep time. Shikamaru can use a soldier pill to boost his chakra to Sai's level if needed. It takes place in Konoha where Naruto fought Sai the first time they met.

sai he is a great ninja but we just havent seen kishi just made shikamaru destroy those dogthings to show he could actually do something post timeskip sai is sharp and talented but maybe shikamaru would take it not sure

I must add that Shikamaru had lots of prep-time, full knowledge of his Hidan's abilities, and was lured Hidan into his family's forest, which is filled with traps, in order to beat him. In a head on fight with Hidan with no prep, Shikamaru would be owned. Still, I am confident in Sai's abilities and I would predict that he is probably mid-jounin level, but still, like usual, I feel that Shika will find a way to beat a stronger opponent. It will be hard for Shika, but he'll eventually catch Sai in some shadow technique and win.

Shikamaru is a genius, and within moments will have a solid plan. Sai will go down after ten minutes, it'll be a reasonably hard fight though, but nothing that'll send Shikamaru to the hospital.

If this fight is like just for fun or something then Sai, Shikamaru would have the perfect plan and just when he is about to win, he will stop, IOf they are trying to kill each other, Shikamaru with ease.

Sai hasnt demonstrated anything that could actually cause Shikamaru any real damage. Im going to go with Shikamaru.

Shikamaru was always my favorite,cause he doesent win his battles with some cheap powerups,like the Kyubi or CS.On topic,Sai hasnt shown anything yet to outsmart Shika :zaru

Shika took Hidan with Prep time and knowledge of his jutsus. And Hidan wasn't exactly what you should expect from an S-rank criminal.
