Now I know very well about ancient Japan and its "Ninja" and how thier actually sworn to just gather needed info. Thats not what you get in Naruto its pretty much everything but that in most ranks.. So have you ever actually forgotten they were Ninjas or what? :ninja

Does Kishi even know what they really are? or what?

Yea sometimes i do, cause its completley diffrent. Most ninja's were silent, stealthy and not only that but they all wore the same black garb.

Multicolored loud and and flashy characters in naruto have never been real ninja's which is where artistic license comes in

I never forgot it, since the ninja from Naruto are actually quite close to the ninja from Japanese legend.

As far as i could tell ninja's of legend didn't have special magical abilities and hax kai

Their nowhere close! They are, although Kishimoto borrowed a lot from non-ninja legends.

As far as i could tell ninja's of legend didn't have special magical abilities and hax kaiBunshin, kawarimi, henge, the elemental jutsu, kagemane... All are magical abilities shinobi had in Japanese legends.

My idea of a ninja: wear all black, silent, deal quick-painless death, swordmasters, shuriken that are useful

Naruto: bright hair, bright colored clothing, superhuman, brightly colored magical attacks

In short... yes, sometimes I forget that they actually are ninja.

Ninjas arent even trained combat let alone all that other fantasy crap. Know your history!I'm not claiming to be an expert on ninja history, however I do know a few legends, and in those, ninja certainly are trained in martial arts.

Also, both the English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja) and Japanese (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%BF%8D%E8%80%85) Wikipedia articles for 'ninja' support the idea that ninja were trained for combat in reality, as well.

Wikipedia honestly lacks too much. :sag I had to do a project on the ancient "Gir" a traveling home used when the mongols took over almost all of the east and Wikipedia came up with that little green guy on Invader Zim.. LAME.

Ninjas actually are trained in combat.

Ninja students are and were trained in "9 halls of ninjutsu"

Unarmed Combat, Combat with Wooden Weapons, Combat with Bladed Weapons, Combat with Flexible Weapons, Specialized Combat Training(integration of tactics and weapons of the previous "halls" with the use of specially crafted ninja devices and tactics)
The Art of Disguise, The Art of Espionage, The Art of Escape and Evasion, The Art of Mysticism(concentration & meditation techniques, advanced techniques include mind manipulation ie- Hypnotism, evoking a foes emotions, and subliminal messaging) .

LAME.I find it quite a reliable source of information, although you should always check the information at another source.

By the way, through the article on Mongolian architecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architecture_of_Mongolia), I came out at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurt) article. Apparently, you the word is spelled 'Ger,' not 'Gir'.

Honestly I don't think their portrayed as Ninja, rather than martial artists and fantasy characters with a ninja theme.

I've always remembered that they're ninjas.

But then they'd call themselves shinobi, and Naruto, if anything, is not silent.

I haven't. I think you have when you else say something about how fair or unfair a move or tactic is.

Naruto stopped being about ninjas around chapter 1.

Sasuke is currently the closest thing to a real ninja, without the ninjutsu and kekkei genkai of course.

As i said long ago in some other thread...real Ninjas are too boring.
It has to be something with fun and fantasy.

Hyuuga's fighting style don't have the ninja feel too. Though they could function well as assassins and for recon purposes.

:lmao Kishi knows full well what they are. His goal wasn't to make Naruto like any other ninja manga that you see. He wanted to make it different.

And at the same time, I think the way he tells the story is really accurate because he is always taking from ancient Japanese legends and myths so in that sense it actually feels more like a better ninja story to me.

I never forgot it, since the ninja from Naruto are actually quite close to the ninja from Japanese legend.

well legend wise they are similar (excluding things like chidori and stuff along the lines of that). but they aren't similar to what a ninja actually is "supposedly" suppose to be. silent info gatherer etc etc.

i think some one said that they aren't trained in combat, which is a lie, it's combat to help them survive if they ever get into a situation where they need to fight and so forth.

but keep in mind i too am no expert on ninja stuffs, this is just things that i have read here and there whilst surfing the net and stuff.

Sweeney Todd
12-08-2007, 08:52 AM
Yes correct me.

They were trained in combat, but on the other note they weren't trained to kill. Thats only through special types.

True ninja's wear black garbs, use stealth, throw shirikins and specialise in killing attacks.

Nahh, Neji is the closest thing to a real ninja. Ninja were experts at reading people and playing mind games to instill fear and anger in their targets for their own goals.

The only person that actually acted like a ninja was Zabuza and maybe itachi.
The rest aren't what i consider an ideal ninja.

If all of the characters were silent killing machines then the manga would lack depth and interest too it.

Kusogitsune

No, even tho they don't do ninja things. It's ironic how a ninja who is considered the least ninja-like uses one of the biggest ninja cliches, and is one of the few who actually relies on trickery and deception.

Mariobowser
12-08-2007, 08:50 PM
Sasuke has it all down to a peg in ninjitsu, deception, silence, focus, calm demeanor, and a lack of emotion.
