With the recent chapters events, I'm liking the idea of Byakuya and Rukia a lot. and she seems to have a crush on him. I mean come on, would you blush if your brother gave you a cloak to protect you from desert storms?!! I don't think so. Obviously she doesn't think of him as a brother and who would blame her, he's dashing.:nod
As for Byakuya, she's his type of a girl, and they're not blood related so... it could happen.

I don't think Renji's had the "upper hand" for quite some time. Despite being childhood friends, up until recently they had been estranged for quite some time. When Rukia was adopted by Byakuya into the Kuchiki she had essentially broken ties with Renji and had not seen him again until he showed up in the living world with Byakuya to bring her back, which was not the most pleasant of reunions. Then considering that Renji spent much of the Soul Society arc trying to defeat Ichigo instead of actively trying to prevent Rukia's execution, and only stepped up once Ichigo had beaten some sense into him, I would say that only after Ichigo had defeated Renji did the two really start to get back on the path of re-establishing their friendship.

Of course, by that time Ichigo had already come into Rukia's life and now Renji's place, while not useless, is certainly overshadowed by Ichigo's presence. When Renji encouraged Rukia's adoption, he effectively let her go. With that, she endured forty years in a cold household with Byakuya and had very few friends or people she could turn to for support. She did have Kaien, who was a wonderful figure of support and comfort for Rukia during those lonely years, but we all remember what happened there, and after he had died once again Rukia had no one to turn to. Renji wasn't there for her when she needed someone the most after Kaien's death, she had to overcome it alone, and even still the remnants of that event has left deep scars in her heart.

When Rukia meets Ichigo it changes her life. Having few opportunities to strike out on her own and with a huge inferiority complex, she takes it upon herself out of necessity to mentor Ichigo and guide him through his new responsibilities as her substitute. This relationship helps Rukia grow immensely as she's able to establish a close relationship with someone, something she hasn't been able to do in a long time. With Ichigo there's no formality about her being a noble, after all he has no idea about her noble status, and there's no dishonesty or lack of confidence in her abilities either. Byakuya secretly held Rukia back in fear of her safety for years, thus creating a inferiority/insecurity complex in her, but we never get the sense of that when she's with Ichigo in those early chapters. Instead, we get a confident Rukia who instructs and guides Ichigo and as time progresses, it becomes less a mentorship and moreso a partnership as they create a team-dynamic based on mutual trust. Ichigo's trust in Rukia helped her build up her confidence despite her lack of powers, and with that she establishes a comfortable friendship with him.

When we see Rukia's flashbacks with Kaien we see her note his warm, friendly, informal demeanour as something she desired the most. It was comforting for her to have a normal superior-subordinate relationship after she started living life as a noble. And so, we see this again when she establishes her relationship with Ichigo, instead, rather than a superior-subordinate relationship, it is moreso a relationship between equals, partners, who can hit and insult each other one moment and comfort and support each other the next. It is when she realizes that the life she has made for herself in the living world with Ichigo is nice and comfortable that she realizes she is in danger of getting too attached and takes it upon herself to leave. With that, we can see that Ichigo has already left a large imprint on Rukia's life, something that only becomes greater as the series progresses.

Renji certainly had more history with Rukia, but I would not say that he had a stronger bond with Rukia than Ichigo does. What Renji has with Rukia are memories of growing up and surviving together, they're precious memories between childhood friends but what Rukia has with Ichigo are life-changing experiences. It's obvious that Rukia changed Ichigo's life, but he's changed hers as well, and I think Renji recognizes that, which is why I don't think he's as great an obstacle as some make him out to be. Renji may harbour more than platonic feelings for Rukia but he does not act on them and has been accepting and respectful of the relationship Rukia has with Ichigo.

Damn that was longer than I originally intended, but it's been a long time since I've posted here so I'll justify myself with that...

On the topic itself, I don't think Rukia has to "end up" with anyone, but if we're going to speculate on romantic outcomes, I would say Ichigo is the best-suited and most-likely. I must admit that have a soft spot for Byakuya/Rukia as well and am not diametrically opposed to Renji/Rukia, but Ichigo is certainly the "frontrunner."

Yes, the do. I personally think they fit in pretty much every category possible. Their relationship will never be dull because, well, let's be real, they both understand each other in a sense where they also fight/argue against each other. Honestly, their relationship is pretty special compared to everyone else's impact on Rukia. Ichigo's stepped up the plate to save her while as Renji, who also wanted to help save her, was centered to beating Ichigo.

Renji and Rukia do have a history growing up together, but we shouldn't overlook how Renji essentially severed that relationship when Rukia was adopted into the Kuchiki. They didn't speak/see each other for nearly 50 years, Rukia felt unwanted and Renji felt unworthy and it doesn't make matters much better when they finally do see each other again and Renji's threatening her and dragging her back to Soul Society to be executed.

I love Renji, but in regards to his relationship with Rukia, he really dropped the ball on this one, and in his place I think Ichigo has more than shown himself capable of stepping up as someone Rukia could rely on.

At this point, I just hope she is picked by someone who will seriously love her and appreciate her for the wonderful shinigami she is.

In the very beginning, I very much loved IchiRuki pairing. The first arc focused solely on Ichigo and Rukia's relationship, and how they learned to become stronger from one another. Both found a friend and confidant in each other. Also, they were just priceless together; the constant bickering, the look on Ichigo's face at Rukia's drawings. All these made them such a unique and amazing pair. I'm quite sad not to see that as much now. Its what got me hooked to Bleach in the first place.

Ichigo - I really really would love to see Rukia pair up with Ichigo, mainly due to the fact that they compliment each other so well. They are very lovable in that they are always arguing, but one can really see they care for one another. (My fav moment being Ichigo's intense worried expression as Rukia is being healed by Orihime...its what keeps me going *sniff*). But sadly, it seems that complications are arising in that Orihime too is beginning to play a major role as well, and is the first to say that she is in love with Ichigo. I'm not too familiar with these types of scenarios, so am not sure who will go with who. I love Orihime alot, she is very cute. But in terms of relationships, I really hope for Rukia with Ichigo.

Renji - Aaahh, what can I say about Renji. I wouldnt mind at all if Renji developed feelings for Rukia, beyond that of a comrade, friend, brother, etc. etc. The one thing about Renji, he wears his heart on his sleeve. In the Soul Society Arc, he didnt hide his struggle over his feelings for Rukia, and really wanting to save her. He is by her side in a heartbeat, watching over her. I see more affection from him and one can really see he appreciates and respects her alot. Main reason he was not my first choice was because as some have commented, their relationship seems more of a close friend type. But seriously, in the soul society arc, when seeing him realizing how much he hurt her by letting her go and vowing he would never leave her again, I seriously for the first time, wanted Rukia to be with him.

So for me, first choice is Ichigo, then Renji.

Oh my, you should have seen the comments I read then. It was just...crazy. They were literally wishing that Rukia had died instead of Senna. And yes, I think Ichigo has gotten to the point that he would just go nuts if anything happened to Rukia. In the Soul Society arc, it was excused as a debt because even though they knew each other for 2-3 months, they still didn't really open up to one another as much as during the arc, where they began to realize just how important they are to each other.

When was this quote made, and was it really from the writer himself? From the recent manga chapters, its really hard to tell now where he is heading towards. Most likely my feelings are such because I have never seen the evidence presented that Rukia and Ichigo are going to get together, although like you, I really feel the story (at least in the first few arcs) revolves around them. Bbaahh, that boy needs to choose Rukia soon before I scream in frustration XD

Also, much of the evidence now is based upon the earlier arcs...alot has happened since then. There was alot of concrete evidence back then because the two were focused on primarily. But now we are meeting new characters, and it just seems the focus is shifting off of them and more onto others. I was a bit 'eehh' on the latest chapters that have released. Though it may be a canon based on these two, Kubo seems to really love teasing us with Orihimi/Ichigo moments as well as Ichigo/Rukia moments...I see alot of similarities between the Soul Society Arc and this arc in terms of Ichigo's reasoning behind going there to save them.

I love reading other people's comments on how and why these two were made for one another and how they will be together, but I think I will really have to see it actually happening before I can breath in relief...I'm dyyinngggg to see Ichigo's reaction when he sees Rukia alive and well...

Not sure, that's just what it says in relation to the statment he put down in the guide. As well, i don't see any ichihime moments at all..hell they actually need some cause of the distinct lack of any interaction between them since the beggining..but even now, no its not even close to ichi and ruki's story that he's put down..

well the reason i do ask was because I'm seeing a lot of moments that made Rukia and Ichigo so special being used between Orihime and Ichigo in the manga. Not as big, but subtle and kind of confuses the readers (namely me).

Also, what happened in the Soul Society arc seems to be repeating itself in this arc, as it did in the Bount Arc. Ichigo goes in because he is desperate to save his friends. I'll probably pull out the Bount Arc from this statement since its Ishida they are trying to save, and I'll try not to make this a triangle XD

But honestly, I see some of the moments that the two shared in Soul Society being redone, with Orihime this time rather than Rukia. I also notice that alot of times, when there is affection between the two, its more with the filler episodes and arcs, and less in the actual storyline, except for those few moments that were in the manga. Now I'm just hoping they are doing this because they feel guilty about not having it done in the manga and making it up to poor readers like me by putting it in the anime :notrust

Hm, I'm trying to say it so as not to be confusing. Well, lets begin with the whole reason behind the two. In Soul Society Arc, Rukia gets captured, and Ichigo runs after her to try and save her. Pretty much the same reason why now, Ichigo is risking his life yet again to save Inoue, refusing to believe she could ever turn bad. Now I really wish I could say that there was a more significance over the other, but during the Soul Society Arc, nothing was really stated that would have made Ichigo go there for any more feeling then to save Rukia for all she had done for him and a deep friendship that had brought them close over the few months she was there. Also, the feelings he goes through when Rukia is captured seem to be the same when he learns that Inoue is with the Arancar. He gets severely upset that he could not do a thing about it and that everyone from Soul Society believes Inoue is a traitor.

Second, the one thing that really stood out when Rukia arrived back from Soul Society during the beginning of the Arancar Arc, was when she helped an extremely depressed Ichigo become his old self and help destroy the Hollow. Same thing I seem to see happening with Orihime. She is hesitant to say anything at first, yet with Nel's assistance, tells Ichigo to be careful and stay safe. The look on Ichigo's face at that and then his resolve to beat Grimmjow is quite interesting. It is the same intense look he gives Rukia during her speech to him.

And just small little moments I see here and there. The utter frustration of Orihime on seeing Ichigo get hurt because of her, and just things like that makes it difficult now to see where Kubo is going with this.

I'm really glad that the majority of people here are voting for Ichigo and Rukia to end up together. It just makes much better sense to me, simply because I was never a fan of the one-sided relationship. They never end up together in anything, and even if they did, how awkward would that be for the one who didn't love the other to begin with? It'd feel forced, to me. So I'm totally for Ichigo and Rukia ending up together, if anyone does. Though, canonically, I don't think anyone's gonna end up with anyone, probably.

ah yes, but as before, these are much earlier in the series, and Inoue's character was just sidelined character like the other friends. But now she is being given far more importance, and her feelings for Ichigo is the first to really come out.

I'm trying to find some of the scenes, but there are just so many chapters, that I forgot which one it is lol.

I think the true test will of course be when Rukia and Ichigo see each other after the battle. After all, Ichigo was being led to believe Rukia was killed, and even though he didn't believe it, it will still be interesting to see what happens. I have always seen the reasons why Ichigo and Rukia are more suited then Inoue and Ichigo, but it just seems to me that they are pursuing more of a 'Nakama' between the two.

Well, one thing is for certain, the amount of time one spends does not always determine the amount of affection or love they will have for another. Sometimes you might just meet someone who changes your life so quickly and in a heartbeat. Same thing happened with Rukia and Ichigo. Rukia always felt alone because she was taken into the Kuchiki clan, where she felt isolated from everyone around her. Even after the death of Kaien, she felt a very big sense of lost and again, felt a loneliness that wasn't able to be filled. Of course that all changed when she met Ichigo, the first person to not be afraid to kick her behind when she completely ignores him in their initial meeting. He is someone who even though she bickered a lot with, showed concern for her whenever she was in trouble. She stayed with him for 2-3 months, and I think with everything they had to go through in that amount of time, there was reason for them to have some sort of affection for one another. You could see the two gradually change one another through their interactions as the series progressed, and of course, they were the first characters to be introduced. Rukia always felt alone while Ichigo always felt he had to maintain some sort of tough guy demeanor. Everything of course changed when they met one another, with Rukia gaining a friend and comrade, and Ichigo slowly able to get out of his shell.

Of course, Renji is also a favorite of mine. As you say, he has been with Rukia since they were little kids. He has always had strong affection for her, but sadly his wanting her to live a good life and be happy backfired after realizing that being a part of a noble family was not what Rukia's interpretation of a good life was. He struggled a lot with his decision. Even though he puts duty in front of his friendship initially, he slowly begins to feel guilty about the entire thing and after a severe inner battle, realizes what he had done and that he needs to help her. After that, his one sole goal was to save Rukia, which he did beautifully, even after being multiply mutilated by Aizen.

But in the end, the main reason that I pick Ichigo is that they are just like each other's half. Each of them have their strengths and of course flaws, which the other more than makes up for. Not to mention they look extremely cute, especially when bickering over Rukia's *ahem* interesting artworks. Its just small moments like this that really makes them shine.

Not exactly, remember that she couldent kiss him, which indicates she knew he wasnt hers to take(and the symbolism of him being unconscious is to show that he's never returned her feelings but she needs to get them out)
