Give someone a hard choice to between 2 or more things and the next x amount of people have to choose what they would do in that situation.
So I ask you, who would you save?
Choice #1 - 40,000 people in a foreign country from an earthquake(e.g. Peru)
Choice #2 - 200 people in your school (you dont know them)
Choice #3 - 1 close friend of yours

I'd save my friend. It's the only thing I can do for a friend. I don't have an almighty's heart to save people whom I don't even know. :oh

When you look at the numbers objectively you would definitely pick choice 1.
From a subjective perspective choice 3 is the better option.
Choice 2 is really unnecessary.
And i choose to let them all die b/c we all gotta die sometime.

I choose 3, not because I care about friends, but we have too many people already on the planet, and by choosing 3, I'd like to think that I'm doing my part to help ease overpopulation.

I know that I would always say Peru on paper but if it actually happened I would probably choose my best friend evan though I would have to live with the guilt all my life at least my bes friend would be next to me.

Why are people choosing the people in peru
You guys would really let ur best friends die over a bunch of people too stupid to move out of a frequent-earthquake zone?
RockGuitarist
11-09-2007, 02:17 PM
I wouldn't save any. I don't have a close/best friend of any kind, I strongly dislike most of the people in my school, and I don't know anyone who lives in Peru, that'd be worth saving.

Most likely the Peruvians. It's a difficult decision to have to make, but anyone of my friends, so well acquainted with their natures, would die of guilt knowing I chose one over forty-thousand. I myself wouldn't be feeling too hot either. As for the two hundred in my school facility, if they could be saved, I would...but since this rhetorical doesn't allow multiple choice, it's better to think that they've at least had the chance to live this long (which is fairly so), whilst amidst that forty-thousand I can't help but wonder how inclusive it is of children and infants.

I'd pick the first choice
Kubisa
11-09-2007, 03:23 PM
I'd pick the third option ASAP; spending too much time thinking about it would lead to me making a different choice, and then I'd start regretting letting my friend die.

I guess #3...

11-09-2007, 10:27 PM
#3, it sounds selfish but I think it is only natural for one to save those that they are close to first.

11-09-2007, 10:33 PM
Choice #3 - 1 close friend of yours
since there are only 74 kids in my whole school and I know them all. lol and I don't dont give a fuck about peru. :lmao
Amnesia
11-09-2007, 10:36 PM
Three. Because I am one selfish bitch. And the world doesn't need more people anyway. In fact, the world population is beyond reasonable for our current resources. And I'm pretty sure my friend consumes a hell of a lot less than 40,000 Peruvians. (Apparently, she's gone green!) Besides, Peru had been a known site of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Let's get rid of that as well. Not against the Peruvian people, I'm against their numbers. If it had happened to be any other country of people, I still would've chosen option number three. And the fact that a natural disaster would probably off them makes my decision that much easier.

How would you save 40000 people by yourself? I see no point in saving 200 people you don't know rather than 40000 people you don't know. But I don't think there are 200 kids I don't know other than those annoying little 6th graders.
So, I guess I would save the 200 kids. Because I know alot of them, and they ARE the future of tomorrow. The one drawback will be a wave of guilt later.
Auraya
11-10-2007, 07:36 AM
I know this sounds selfish but I'd pick the 3rd option . I would actually die for some of my best friends and I wouldn't die to save people I didn't know, so if I had the choice of only being able to save one of those choices I'm going to pick my best friend
natwel
11-10-2007, 03:11 PM
the 2 are virtuous, but the country is over populated, a lot of people probably live in poverty in peru too,
sound selfish but option 3 to tackle the over population issue
Cannah
11-10-2007, 03:20 PM
I would choose #1. I have o best friends, so this can't be #3, and when i was at school, the mates used to take me as a free tutor, so this is not #2.

I'd send my friend to Peru, then save Peru.
Seriously,I'd save the close friend. It's selfish and thousands of people I don't know will die because of it,but some friends can't be replaced.I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I let a good friend die when I had an option of saving them.

I think I would probably save my friend, although I would be tempted by the earthquake victims since there are many of them.
If it were my fiance or daughter rather than a friend though, there would be no question. I would save them.

My closest friend of course
the people in peru should have watched the weather channel
There is currently no geographical or meteorological way to predict either the earthquake itself or where it will strike, so that statement is invalid. However, I agree with your choice of options, for I'd have to choose my closest friend as well. I've already lost ALL of my closest friends save her, so there's no way I'd ever risk losing her as well.

^ i thought it said of the 200 none of them you knew.
Anyways i would pick choice 3, how can you say they were your friend if you don't save them, however if the friend wanted me to take another choice it would be number 1, i'd rather save 40,000 randoms than 200.

None of 'em
I'm very sorry but saving random people in a different country is a bit out of the choice. And uhm.. #2.. my school is pretty small so I know about everyone in it, and I'm not even sure if it has 200 people. xD So yeah.. it's basically everyone in my school. I'll have to say:
#2
Only because in my case it's somewhat cheating, because it will be saving everyone in my school, not excluding my friend. :nod

Hmm, this really depends: By "save," is this meant to be from some isolated incident, irrespective of the remaining population, or does it imply that, by "saving" these people, they will be the only ones remaining? I'm going to assume the intent was the former, due to the "from an earthquake" example, but still, I can't just leave these two surprisingly different possibilities alone.
In the first, I would select the one person, simply by virtue of it entailing the greatest number of people dying. Oh, that didn't come out right at all. What I meant to say is that it would be the, uh, most environmentally friendly choice. Right. If it would, however, be known that these deaths were due to someone's conscious decision, I would choose the 200, to hopefully stop the L-types from making connections.
If the scenario were that of saving these people from some quasi-apocalyptic situation, in that this group would be the only known to remain, I would choose the 200. Being alone with just a single person, for the duration of either of our lives would be... awkward, to say the least. 40,000 would be too many to watch over, sort out, and organize in that type of environment. 200 would probably be the most comfortably sustainable number, small enough to avoid a sense of crowding and overtaxing of resources, yet large enough to ensure some degree of multiformity. Being of roughly the same demographic would lead to interesting social dynamics aw well. It might be somewhat reminiscent of Lord of the Flies, or perhaps Lost, if you will.
