For anyone who didn't catch this on /a/, some nice Anonymous got weeaboo enough to travel to Japan, to a village called Shirakawa-go which was the one Hinamizawa was based on.

Anyone know about the Live action Higurashi (no, not the cosplay porn by TMA, the REAL one)? xD I wonder if they're are actually gonna shoot the movie there.

Not a chance. As far as I know, the locals at Shirakawa-go completely detest the Higurashi series, either because it makes their village looks like a scene of psychotic mass murders, or simply because it caused a flood of unwanted tourists that fills the town all the time and annoys the citizens.

In fact, at the shrine, after that thing where you hang wishes for good luck written on wooden plates on a wall thingy got filled up with Higurashi references and sketches, the shrine authorities put up another wall just for Higurashi fans, so they don't spam the original one.

IIRC, the Anon who took those pics (fat guy in an Ooishi costume) said that the suspension bridge and Keiichi's house are also real.

The USO DA road that was in the anime does not exist and is a fictional location made up by Deen.
