For the sake of parents’ business plans, Hidaka Sana moved to Tokyo. Five years later, he has become a high school student, and returned to his hometown, Sakuranomori. He feels uneasy because the streets of his hometown and his old friend he meets again have changed a lot since five years ago. The most changed thing is his childhood friend, Yatsushiro Nanaka. She used to smile sweetly with innocent eyes, but now has retreated into her shell and become gloomy.

This is a heartwarming love story of a boy and a girl who grow up suffering from the gap between sweet memories and the reality they have to face.

Aoi did come off as a tad bit annoying (voice-wise) when she was talking about the book in the store, but she's an okay character.
As for Sana not recognizing Nanaka, I know that she should be hurt because she apparently cared about him for so long, but why the heck didn't she just go up to him initially instead of waiting for him to recognize her? O__O

Slapping him was a bit too much, IMO.

I doubt that she slapt him only because he didn't recognize her. It seems like he never kept in touch with her after he left, most likely it was a combination of not keeping in touch with her and not remembering her.
There probably was some kind of promise and he forgot!

That website actually states that Kanon did follow that because of the fact there was a narrator in the first "dream" scene which is arguably Ayu.

Not always work in todays anime. They are trying to move away from that trend. the problem with the first girl met is that she automaticaly gets the childhood friend role even if she is not childhood friend. I always say that the reason that Yoko didn't end with Simon is that she was his first friend besides Kamina thus she get branded as childhood friend. they make good points there, but "Childhood friend always" trumps "firstgirl"

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why a lot of fans of Kanon feel that she was robbed. She was the first girl to be introduced but was beaten by the "voice narrator" we don't get to see until after her. Then there's other nonsense that supposedly gave Ayu the advantage. >_<

I'm sure that his intentions weren't cruel or malicious but I still can't accept that. Five years, IMO, isn't that long of a time gap. I've seen people who I haven't had contact with for the same length of time or longer and I recognized them despite their change in appearance and demeanor in varying depgrees (some were bigger, smaller, altered personalities, etc.). If it was for a longer period of time then maybe I would think differently.

Though I think that fact is just something that made her not hesitate to slap him. Maybe it has something to do with what his best buddy was trying to shout to him on the train or probably something he forgot. Doesn't seem surprising since his memory seems to be in question at the moment.

I've seen people who I haven't had contact with for the same length of time or longer and I recognized them despite their change in appearance and demeanor in varying depgrees (some were bigger, smaller, altered personalities, etc.). If it was for a longer period of time then maybe I would think differently.

Though I think that fact is just something that made her not hesitate to slap him. Maybe it has something to do with what his best buddy was trying to shout to him on the train or probably something he forgot. Doesn't seem surprising since his memory seems to be in question at the moment.

And I'm sure that isn't the case with everyone, including myself. It doesn't make it right or wrong, just different. And the time period is also crucial. If we're young adults (19) when we last saw each other and five years past then there might not be much change, but from pre-adolescence to adolescence (from 10 or 11 to 16) alot of things can change (body wise, personality, mental, etc...). You are in fact an entirely different person before, during and after puberty.

I can understand if they were adults separated by a mere five years, but childhood to young adulthood is an entirely different ball game altogether. If we were all able to maintain the same level of memory and recognition then we'd be robots, but fortunately we're humans who are dynamic and unique. Sana shouldn't be penalized for the way his mind processes memories and faces.

It was everyone else who recognized Sana in my view. Everyone yelled out to him before he realized who it was. What did she do?

I noticed that as well... also, it was almost like the guy made ZERO effort to stay in touch with these people. He didn't even try to get back in touch with them before he moved back into town. They were his 4 best friends before he moved away, but he didn't even try to give them a call before he left to let them know that he would be heading back into town?

It also almost seemed like he wasn't even excited to see these people... he got a little nostalgic thinking to himself that "they hadn't changed" once he saw each of them, but he wasn't nearly as enthusiastic about seeing them again as his friends were of seeing him. Hell, he spent the whole evening with Aoi but he didn’t even ask her about the other three… what’s with that?

But I guess we need to give him the benefit of the doubt... maybe he had a lot on his mind. After all, he got pretty tense/annoyed when he was speaking to his mom on the phone... family problems? And even though he was asked straight up why he came back, Sana never really answered the question... he just got a dejected look on his face and said it was for "personal reasons."

I don't think it is only forgetting the song or not remembering her, but he basically didn't contact her in any sort all those 5 years. They were small when they separated so I can understand he forgetting to make any contact, but girls are not as forgetfull as boys.

This storyline could have probably been dragged out for several more episodes. She went from slapping him to liking him in 22 minutes. My guess now is that this will only last 13 episodes.

Still, analyzing this show about the pairings will be hard. The three girls are actually childhood friends and the new girl (asami) that is not a childhood friend has shown interest on the guy. It is actually interesting that thanks to Asami, nanako was able to overhear what he was saying. Still Nanako has the advantage as the Previous "first girl me". they really are trying to make hard for people to guess the pairings.

most schools that don't have sailor uniforms give the choice to have an alternate uniform. You could see this in school days where some girls had jackets that they could wear or take off even during summer. Other schools don't let you wear winter uniform during summer. Shuri must be using the winter uniform even during summer because she might be cold all the time.
I think what she is wearing is a sweater over her normal uniform.
