I mean
when the series started, it started out as 2 young men fighting a rebels fight against the king of the world
awesome fights between generals and their armys
but who thought that 17 eps later
theyd be fighting in fucking space
and be using time alterations, space-time dimensions, chouginga, ark and tengen toppa
i mean wow
i never saw it coming..:amazed

after Kamina died i thought the series would go downhill but it did not. Definitely did not expect the series to become so popular, it wasn't amazingly popular when I started watching it :o

I felt the same.
and yeah, it was really unsuspected that a story starting off about 2 people trying to go to the earth's surface to become to a hyper galactic battle.

The plot was really something fucking else. I mean, The beginning is just Kamina and Simon wanting to break through to the surface. Then their one goal is to defeat the beastmen, they do and create a freakin' city full of technological advances. Their linear goal of defeating beastmen skyrocketed into something that threatened the entire universe; anti-spirals. They fight in space, then in mo-fuggin' alternate universes, and get a freakin' mech that's larger than galaxies.
It exploded into many particles of win.

yeah, true. It showed a typical outer space battle, but nowhere as near as large of a scale that it ended up in

I was hoping it wouldn't. Then Kamina died and all reason went out the window. Ironic, since Kamina was anything but reasonable.

Space battle was shown in the beginning, so you were expecting their situation fighting Ganmen to change kinda quickly anyway. But you never had the idea of something as powerful as the personification of Anti-Spiral getting destroyed by Gurren Lagann. I thought the Spiral King would be the final enemy, but reality was far from it.
I was surprised at Simon's ending though. For a series full of epic-ness, they really contrasted that with the epilogue. Yoko becomes a principal of a small-town school, Simon wanders around .. I don't think it was terribly done.

Me neither.
I always thought it is some kinda of typical mecha series that fighting against other mecha..That all for my impression for it but....it isnt...:)
I mean, I dont see how the Mecha have the power to rival the god....they freaking step on the galaxy and throw some of them as Shuriken, rip the space and Mecha pilot and Other mecha pilot other Giant Mecha defeinitely make me "WOW"

I just got fucking crazy. I like how they built the brigade from the underground up thou.
