In before someone saying when Rossiu survived.
I think it was when Nia disappeared for me.
Kittan's death was too GAR to feel sorry for him and when I saw Kamina die I had know about it (spoilers xP) for a while so it didn't have such a saddening effect.

The deaths of the Dai Gurren Brigade members, including Nia.
Actually the Epilogue of ep 27 hits me quite hard, too. Like how Yoko and Simon spend twenty years by themselves.
Shiraishi
10-01-2007, 03:49 AM
Yoko doesn't spend 20 years by herself. For all we know, she may have a husband, and even if she doesn't, she has kids that love her. Simon went from Commander of the FUCKING HUMAN RACE to nothing; he's now a wandering drill man who helps people out in small ways.

I don't...sort of.
Seriously, it would be so cool if the Prologue from episode 1 happens during the twenty years gap. But then, who are they fighting against?

I agree! with you!
The first two time I watched episode 27 I didn't feel much for Nia, but the third time I shed tears for her. The first two time I was just too happy that Yoko didn't die to care too much about Nia, then I realize her sacrifice.
I was also sad that Simon became a hobo and wondered around the world, being alone when he let Yoko go to waste!
Yoko doesn't spend 20 years by herself. For all we know, she may have a husband, and even if she doesn't, she has kids that love her. Simon went from Commander of the FUCKING HUMAN RACE to nothing; he's now a wandering drill man who helps people out in small ways.
I don't think Yoko ever married anyone! The only man that was her equal in her eyes was Kamina and that is why she fell for him. Yoko ended just like Simon, just doing what she wanted to do which was to prepare the next generation of warriors.
The world of GL is an old fashion one where Wife stay home and husband go to work, just look at Kinoh! Plus Yoko is waiting to go to Garhalla to meet Kamina as all they know there is an afterlife.
Of course these are my observation of Yoko personality, We won't know this until Gainax release an official character book or some after stories that prove me wrong. Gainax made it very clear, Yoko and Simon are grieving for their too loved one till the day they die. Never marrying after losing a partner doesn't often happen in the real world but, but this TTGL!

:pek
I hated the ending why did Nia have to die? Because the Anti-Spiral were gone she disapears? I didn't like that since it proves that she wasn't really real but virtual? :(
VaizardIchigo
10-01-2007, 12:46 PM
Well, I'd say she evolved from being simply a virtual life into a real one.
Her death was the saddest part for me. We were so close to a perfect ending and then Gainax threw us a low blow. Well, I'm with golthin on this. Simon and Yoko will see the one's the love in the afterlife. I imagine Simon, when he dies, will wake up in an image similar to ryu77's sig.
I wish Gainax would do an image of them all in the afterlife together again, though that one scan could count I guess.
"Till we meet again" one could say.

QFT.
I was too hyped up on GAR too be sad about Kamina and Kittan. And Nia was your typical moe so her death didn't bother me either.
But those dream sequences were really sad especially because you know they can never happen.

Nia's and Kamina's death hurt me worse than the others, particularly Kittans. He knew it was suicide...
I say Kamina's death was the saddest just because the entire next episode was dedicated to everyone mourning for him >_>

It wasn't as sad as Ep 26, but still sad anyway. I also shed a tear for such a stunning ending.

I think its because it was directly followed by Kittan's death that they didn't get much recognition >_>

Nia's death, made me sad.

1) Kamina's death.
2) The entire Row Row scene in Episode 26. Including Viral.
3) Kittan's death
4) Nia's death. As someone said earlier - Gainax lowblow. However, the part that saddened me most was how a virtual being was changed so radically by the spirals - Dai Gurren Brigade, to be precise.
Also gave an insight into a parallel between Yoko and Simon's love lives. Both of them lost their partners too soon.
(Were Simon and Nia going out during the timeskip?)
Kamina and Kittan's deaths were too fucking awesome, though. (Would a GAR be appropriate here? What does it mean anyway, I just watched the entirety of the series in the past two days. I have a feeling it has something to do with omotteagaru, though.)
(Were Simon and Nia going out during the timeskip?)
They didn't see each other the whole time. Yoko left and became a teacher and only came back at the start of the space arc.

Actually, the ending of the series count as one for me, too. Especially those last few seconds with Simon and the child looking up into the sky, Simon's deep voice speaking, the spiral green flight, and the piano for BGM...omg, that hit me soo hard.

this might be the end of his story, but think Simon will have some involvement in a future sequel. HE might look old, but 41 is not really that old, he still has at least 10 more good years. I have hope that peace will not last long, it never does because Human are that human! Someone somewhere will not be happy about the way things are run, he will oppose the government and rebel and then things will go downhill from there.
Kittan's death.
I was most moved when the set out into space thou; manly tears.

Kamina's death, You have to admit it was probably the greatest blow to the show, I even considered stop watching after it. Even though I loved Kittan( and his death was a big blow full of GAR), it wasn't as sad as when Kamina went and I think you all know it that Kamina's death was the saddest moment.
I was not every moved at all by Kamina's death. I was rather moved by thinking about it much later; but not at the time. It was not like the last episodes of Trigun or Cowboy bebop. Or my personal favorite in manga; the end of Uncivilized planet.
What set Kamina and kittan's deaths apart was largly the music and focus of their deaths. The music is a most important factor; and their final words before death. Kamina did not get good death music, and he just go flanked and speared. His final words are powerful later but not as strong as Kittan's at the time.
Kittan says moving things before and has strong finals words. Then of course the transformation is more powerful than the claiming of Dai guren, or the first giga drill breaker.
The ending of the show lacked moving deaths and strong music in some parts.

Kamina by far, I mean it was totally unexpected especially considering the relationship with yoko that was developing only minutes before. Once Kamina died everyone else was fair game so no other deaths surprised me. I didn't really see Nia disappearing as sad either since it was foreshadowed and both Nia and Simon seemed to accept it.
It's not always the unexpectedness of a death that is sad, it is often more so the nature of it.

Ahh..Vegitto-kun..I can only hope that if a sequel is made it will contain new characters..OR..the Spiral Tribes are at war sometime into the future due to their different views and customs.
Simon is an old man..almost on his deathbed.
The fighting finally reaches Earth and the village in which he chose to spend his last days.
The Human Ganmens are shot down..and the falling debris and Spiral Energy guns the enemy use destroy a lot..Simon tries to save somebody and in the process gets shot with Spiral Energy..his body reacts..lighting,storm,the heavens split and the background kick-ass muzic starts..
And Simon emerges, young and in his prime again..
He gets into one of the new shot down Ganmen and starts to pwn the shit out of the enemy..
After he is finished..he looks at the war and say to himself:"Guess it's time to kick ass and take names again" and goes back to Kamina City to help in the war!:nuts
What do you all think? :wtf
And Simon emerges, young and in his batshit insane, cocky, arrogant and GARlock as the first time we saw him.

Kamina's death...it was sad how his death affected everyone. Especially Simon and Yoko.
The ending was poignant...but i guess it's kinda sad to know simon lived alone for all those years. I got the impression yoko spent her years alone although she had the children to teach. Nia slowly dissipating was sad as well.

Kittan's death was a close second, I have to admit. I swear. My favorite characters always have to die... Seriously.
