Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the latest hit anime series from the animation studio Gainax who are probably most famous for their series Neon Genesis Evangelion. It premiered back on April 1st of this year and at the time of this thread its last episode is about to air. Its staff and production team have been the cream of the Gainax crop giving the show an incredible standard of art and animation.

In a world where the human population is trapped underground, Kamina and Simon yearn for the surface. Simon is Jiha village's best driller, digging through the earth for resources untill one day he discovers a mysterious face in his tunnel. As he runs back to tell Kamina, a giant mech (called a ganmen) plummets through the ceiling of their underground village closely followed by an attractive red haired girl named Yoko. The ganmen causes havoc in the village untill Simon awakens the mysterious face he'd found and it turns out to be a ganmen too. Inside the ganmen Simon, Kamina and Yoko prepare to confront the enemy ganmen and then the rest of the world.

pffft, even among mediocre anime, Shippuuden is less-than.

Gurren-Lagann is a notch above most decent anime. The only thing I have enjoyed nearly as much is Seirei no Moribito, and that is nothing like Gurren-Lagann at all.

On a second thought, it's better that Naruto Forums doesn't change to GARForums, since it will attract soooo much people that:

I personally liked it better than Code Geass in some aspects. Code Geass easily has the superior plot but this show entertained me much more than CG did (Considering some of the characters in CG pissed me the fuck off). Basically don't go looking into this anime if you're looking for a great plot or some serious themes and concepts. This is just a very fun anime that's filled with epic GAR and combine that with the animation, you have one hell of an anime.

OK so I downloaded and watched the first ep. last night and I wasn't all that impressed. I already like Kamina's character, but overall it didn't do too much for me. Now I'm big on plot. That is why I love Naruto and FMA and you guys are saying that it doesn't have a very imressive plot or storyline. Do you think it is worth me investing in the rest of the series if I wasn't really taken by the first ep?

It doesn't have great plot compared to Code Geass, Berserk, Vagabond, etc... But compared to shounen like FMA, Naruto, Bleach, OP it has a pretty good plot. Though the most outstanding part of this anime is the characters meaning this is a character driven show not plot driven.

Seriously if you like Naruto which can hardly compare against some normal shounen then this should be really good to you.

I cant believe people actually call Shipuuden as the best anime...Even Pretty Cure, Magical Girl Series can beat Shipudden.

The plot is good. It's not one of those more complex and hard to follow plots, and is more direct. The latter half of the episode gets more interesting though, because of a reason I can't mention to you and you have to get up to - if you're going to give the series a chance. =)

The first episode is merely and introduction for the main characters, plus the added load of kick-ass fun. You have to watch a couple more to get more of a story. (about after episode 6, the series really starts then, in my opinion) :3

Be careful though, you stricltly look at the images and the images only - any bit of text could seriously spoil the fun for you. I can't even stress out how important that you don't get spoiled somehow, it's too fucking lethal for this series. I swear.

Because they aren't GAR enough, duh. :P

If you read stuff from the 2nd link, you'll see that only a select few can carry the title of GAR. You can't just name them that because they're 'awesome' and 'cool' - it doesn't even compare. And if you do that everyone will obviously hate on you, because what you're doing isn't GAR. :P

actually i downloaded cccp+MPC, and thats where i get the problem, i also get it with zoom too.

my original player was vlc but the subtitle font is huge.

really the only thing that MPC and zoom did was get the font to its correct size.

i think its just my computer sucks ass, cuz i downloaded a lower quality version of a BSS-Anon ep and it was fine with all players.

(my ram is less than a gig :p)

Are you sure you don't have any other codec packs installed, conflicting with CCCP? That could be a problem, you see ^^

Anyway, you got the lower quality version, I guess it's fine for you now. :3

I beleive if everyone tried to be more Like Simon and Kamina the world would be a better place.

The art style is different but I quickly grew to like it and pretty much what I say to people is get through episode 3. If you really don't like it then, stop watching. If you still have some interest, got to 8 and stop then if you don't like it still.

i'm new to this anime and i'm curious about it since it's already becoming popular... in fact, i just finished watching the first 2 episodes just an hour ago. i really want to watch this right now, but too bad our final examinations is fast approaching and i don't have much time for this anime... :(

i'm definitely going to watch this once our final examinations is over so that i can judge this anime and join you guys in this thread... :)
