Physical traits

Zetsu's head appears to be enveloped in a large venus flytrap, which can also envelop the rest of his body. It is unconfirmed whether this plant is part of his body, a summon, or something else such as a parasite. He has a two-toned body, much like the character Two-Face from Batman. The dark (right) side of Zetsu's face and shoulders has several white spots that may or may not serve a purpose. Zetsu seems to have a split personality, as the black half of his face speaks in a deep voice (written in Katakana) while the white side in a lighter voice (Kanji and Kana). The two halves also seem to converse with each other (both verbally and through thought), and occasionally differ in opinion.

Zetsu has a special sort of vision that allows him to see objects far away

Zetsu’s jutsus are still a mystery, however he appears to frequently use the "Hiru Banshō: Bōka no Jutsu, 蛭万象・防火の術 ( Leech All Creation: Attack Prevention)" technique, which allows him to fuse with anything that does not move, such as trees, rocks, and the ground, allowing him to travel great distances very quickly.

Kagerou 蜉蝣 : the jutsu Zetsu uses to vanish and reapper in/from the ground.

Keitai Henka (形態変化) (manipulation of shape/form)
Keitai Henka manipulates the chakra form itself to create the "shape" of the ninjutsu and controls the power and area effect of the chakra. While Seishitsu Henka emphasizes and brings out the form of the chakra's elements, this particular technique is largely dependent on the user's conceptualizations, the skill's system, method of mastering it, etc. Many of the skills now are the results of the achievements of the earlier users.

Interesting information

Zetsu engages in reconnaissance.
Zetsu is the only member of Akatsuki to act without a partner on a regular basis.
Zetsu appears to extend a sixth-type sense from his body to the area around him, rather than by relying on his eyesight alone.
Zetsu is also the only Akatsuki member who is able to move during the Bijuu sealing ritual, a skill which he solely holds. This makes him a lookout during the ritual.
Zetsu is able to record scenes just by observing them.
Also, Zetsu serves as a sort of superior to other members, as they often report directly to him instead of the actual leader, Pain.

Zetsu first appeared in Naruto on the last two pages of Chapter 234, where he was watching the fight between Naruto and Sasuke at the Valley of End. He "sprouted" from the ground and commented on how interesting the current situation was.He reported directly towards the Akatsuki Leader, informing him on the status of Sasuke Uchiha.

In Chapter 238 we see a silhouette of Zetsu telling the leader of Akatsuki that Orochimaru has obtained the Sharingan now that Sasuke has successfully left Konoha.

We don't hear from Zetsu again until Chapter 255 when all of Akatsuki meet to perform the unsealing jutsu on Gaara. This is where we find out that Zetsu is the bearer of the ring 亥 (boar).

Zetsu is asked by the leader to be the lookout for their base.

This is when he spots Team Gai + Pakkun on their way to sabotage Akatsuki's plans.

In Chapter 261, after the "clone" diversions of Itachi and Kisame were defeated by Teams Gai and Kakashi, Zetsu was ordered to dispose of the bodies. He finds the two men used for the jutsu (one of them being Yuura) and eats them.

In Chapter 280, he was then seen after the battle of Sasori and Chiyo/Sakura. He is accompanied by a young man dressed in all black with an orange mask, named Tobi. They are looking for the rings of defeated members, Deidara and Sasori. Tobi finds Sasori's ring and asks if he can be a new member, to which Zetsu agrees, saying "Tobi is a good boy" but then his other voice disagrees, saying that it's not so easy to be a member of Akatsuki.

In Chapter 281, the two later find Deidara's severed hand with his ring on it, but Deidara who survived, approaches them and demands his hand back from Tobi. They fight as Zetsu watches in amusement.

Zetsu appears once again in Chapter 314, surprising Hidan and Kakuzu from the ground after they defeated the Nibi Jinchuuriki. He takes her body away, but not before making fun of Hidan's ritual. He tells them indirectly that he only trusts himself and that he is lonely.

In Chapter 353, it is supposed that he observed the fight between Team 7 and Kakuzu as he was able to tell Kisame that they were killed by the Leaf ninja ; namely Kakashi and the 9 tails jinchurikki, Naruto.

In Chapter 388, Zetsu appears again to witness the Sasuke Vs Itachi fight, with his face appearing on the wall.

In Chapter 395, after the Uchiha brothers' fight, he reappeared beside Tobi to report on the fight, before leaving together with him.

After Tobi has a meeting with Team Taka, he meets Zetsu at a bridge, and shares information of his discussion with them. It is interesting how Zetsu opted for his presence out of the meeting, and stayed outside instead; preferring to allow Tobi to share the details instead when he is out.

In Chapter 419, Zetsu is seen sealing the captured "HachiBee" into the statue with Tobi and Kisame. The white half complains that the sealing is taking longer than expected due to the small number involved in the sealing.

The two halves of Zetsu are arguing between themselves on whether to allow Tobi to join Akatsuki, with the black half of Zetsu comments that "Tobi is a good boy."

Orochimaru emerges from the one of the eight-headed Yamata's mouth and the white side of Zetsu comments : "Always with the barfing stuff and the coming out of snakes mouths...He grosses me out."

Tobi is already by Sasuke’s side, it seems he got there instantly. Zetsu appears a few seconds later. Tobi complains of his tardiness and Zetsu jokes "Well, I’m sorry for not being able to move at the freaking speed of light".

Yamato recognizes Zetsu as another Akatsuki member listed in Kabuto’s file book. Zetsu reports that Sasuke has won and that Itachi is dead. The news shocks all of the Konoha ninja below, but Tobi claims it was what he had predicted all along. Zetsu goes on to say that Sasuke has collapsed and is probably fading away fast. Naruto is alarmed by this news and loudly demands Zetsu, who he refers to as Aloe Vera, to reveal Sasuke’s location.

"Hahaha tentacle!!" was the exclamation made as the white-half of Zetsu laughed when the "Hachibee" which they were supposed to be sealing into the Bijuu statue turned out to be a tentacle.

Zetsu's coolness comes mainly from his originality (I mean a venus flytrap with a double personality...), the Byakugan would take away a lot from it.

I HIGHLY doubt that Zetsu has Byakugan. That's just really cheesy, in my opinion. We'll probably find out more about him real soon.... well, hopefully.

Zetsu's hair color? Hmmmm... well it's definitely not black or else it would be colored in the manga. Any other besides black (and sometimes brown) are kept white (for example: Kisame's hair is dark blue, but it was white in the manga, making people believe that it should've been silvery). I'm gonna have to say that his hair will be a light shade of green. I'm imagining what his other colors will be and all I'm thinking of are green flytrap, white left half, and dark-colored right half. The only thing that wouldn't clash with the plant would be light green hair. Blonde or Brown hair would certainly look stupid, but I could see him looking cool with white, too.

I saw them back in September of 2003 when Anthony was in the band. <3<3<3 Cove is good, too, but he comes nowhere close to Anthony's greatness. Do you know about Anthony's new band Circa Survive? Well, he's got a sleeve in his cloak so I'm sure he has arms. It appears that he's naked under there since you can see his shoulders and part of his chest. haha He also has legs even though you can't see them in Inane's version of 234... you can faintly see his left leg in the raw version.

haha yeah, his hair was meant to be greyish, like Kakashi, but it came out more on the blue gray side, I think he would look cool with white hair. Anyway since we dont know his colours yet give me some ideas.

Also, ive been colouring one of the manga pages for the newest issue, heres what ive done so far. I still dont know if I should have coloured the light side of his body white to contrast the dark, or if the skin looks good.

Hey that first panel looks really good! I was thinking more of a pale skin color and either dark green (think Aoi) or light green hair.

Thats a good idea, the first colour I had for his skin was actually white with grey for the shadows. I can do a few versions, its not hard to change some colours on different layers.

He has regular human shoulders so I'd assume that there are arms coming out of them. Also, he definitely has legs because you can kinda see them in the raw of chapter 234. I think he's basically just a normal person (but with a giant plant connected to him and half of him is another color).

the Akatsuki cloak somtimes makes it hard to make out limbs since the sleeves are so long and the colours blend into each other

All five of the above sentences say the same thing, but Kanji (mixed with Hiragana) is the right way to write in Japanese. Using just kana makes it very hard to read, as you can see, since you can't tell where one word ends and the next starts. Zetsu speaks in Katakana most of the time. The only time he's said anything any other way was on the last page of 234 where he says "un..." in Hiragana. I think the use of Katakana is supposed to show us that he has two different voices since there's really no other way to show this in manga.

I hope I didn't make any stupid mistakes in that...

SHOCKING NEWS!!! Zetsu is confirmed to be from Grass Village. Way back in chapter 234, we suffered from a terrible scan of the Zetsu page. It turns out that he actually had a forehead protector visible between his fly-trap teeth.

Thanks to Raijin for the scan and pointing it out. ^_^

One last thing... *smacks chocobo for not noticing this in her own copy of Shounen Jump*
