hmm, Iruka's had a lot of appearances that i really liked....i had to go hunt for a bunch of them in order to attempt the Iruka AMV i'm working on. ^^; one of his appearances that i remember from the manga but have yet to see in the anime is when he's teaching a history class atop the Hokage Tower. one of the kids asks "Who's going to become the next Hokage?" and Iruka replies with something along the lines of; "Hmm...nobody knows for sure yet. Who knows, maybe it could be me! Ha ha ha!"

Eep, seems we've fallen behind. ^^; Alright, I'll try to bring our thread back up with an Iruka question.

I'm currently writing an IruAnko fanfic, during which Iruka and Anko have a little sparring match in the Forest of Death. Now a lot of people seem to make Iruka out as a weak fighter, but I don't want to make that the case. So I had Iruka use Konoha Kage Buyou at one point. (Konoha Kage Buyou=Leaf Shadow Dance - the move Rock Lee uses to appear behind somebody, usually after throwing them upwards with Initial Lotus.) Is it fitting for Iruka to know that move? We've never seen the extent of Iruka's fighting abilities. He has to at least have some tricks up his sleeves, otherwise how would he have made it to Chuunin rank in the first place?

If anybody has any ideas for a piece of Iruka fanart/fiction, feel free to voice them here. ^____^

Why, his last name is Umino! His full name, Umino Iruka, means "Dolphin of the Sea/Ocean". ^_______^

My apologies for not being around for a while. >_< In good news, my Iruka AMV is almost done. And hikaru yuki, your Iruka fanart pieces are awesome!! My DA username is Pizazz (just like here). While I'm no artist, I have two decent-enough written pieces up, one of which being the first chapter of an Iruka+Anko fanfic.

On the topic of Iruka, I'd like to try and start a little discussion...why does (almost) everybody seem to have the impression that Iruka is homosexual? No offense meant if you're a fan of KakaIru or any other male/Iruka coupling, it's just that I can't find a single speck of proof that Iruka is gay. I've heard some people say that they think Iruka loves Kakashi because "he blushes whenever he's around"...but Iruka has only spoken to Kakashi a couple of times. He never blushed at all. The only time I know of when he blushes around Kakashi is when Kakashi states that Naruto is trying to be like his hero - namely Iruka. Of course he would blush for that, though! And he isn't blushing at Kakashi, only at what he said, and Kakashi was in no way coming onto him or anything.

And on a somewhat similar topic, why do many people seem to depict Iruka as being weak? (Emotionally and/or physically, however you'd like to think of it.)

Opinions? Arguments?

I'd say he only blushes because he's embarrassed.

Iruka is in his 20s and he's a chuunin in a dead end job teaching ungrateful students day in day out while Kakashi is only about 3 years older and is already a Jounin. How can you not be a little embarrased by that?

Iruka doesnt even blush that much in the series, perhaps thats only due to his not so popular role as anyone else T_T. They need to show him fighting...they showed kakashi and gai and alot of other shinobi when and and sound attacked...where was Iruka? In a cave with the academy students T________________T gah. They needed to have someone try and attack the kids and have Iruka "wreck the shiznit" lmao.

iruka was 25 when the series started and kakashi was 26. rumor is that the series started around october, and kakashi's birthday is september while iruka's is may. that actually makes them less than a year apart..

and reason for the pairing? theyre just cute together ^^

No offense meant to the KakaIru fans of course! ^_^ Normally I try to judge a piece of fanart/fic on how well it's done and not by the coupling. I'm just curious as to how some people see Iruka as being gay. And Kakashi too for that matter.

I suppose what also irks me is that yeah, there's some good KakaIru stuff of course. But there isn't much variety...I mean I look through the Naruto section at Fanfiction.net and the majority of Kakashi fanfics have 'KakaIru' in the summary. Fanfics don't have to be shounen-ai to be good. T_T

And I agree, we need to see more of Iruka kicking ass. Even in Narutimett Hero 2, Iruka's just an 'assist' character...his attack consists of, as best as I can remember, yelling at his opponent, and the katakana from his yell causes damage to the enemy. -_-; Usually he just throws your character an item anyway.

I think(Imagine it would be great XD) Iruka is only a chuunin because he wants to help teach the young shinobi of Konoha all he can before they go off to fight. He's probably turned the Anbu position down at least 7 times. =3 He's passionate about his work and to be trusted with protecting all the academy students, you know he's strong. ^o^

As far as his power goes - well I suppose I just dont think he's all that strong because we only saw him against Misuki in the first ep, and that was it. Unfortunatly I think he probably wont be in any more battles, but at least he's made regular appearences buying ramen and having parental talks with Naruto!

We have only seen him fighting Mizuki; true, but he took a shatload of Kunai and a Giant shuriken to the back...After that he was still able to run through the forests maintaining a henge, give Mizuki a good crack to the jaw and not pass out.

The Dai-shuriken in the back alone would have done a fair bit of damage...If not for that damn sneak attack he could've taken Mizuki. <.< XD

Oh and an extra thought on Iruka's power - in the anime there was that bit before the chuunin exams were Iruka used Henge No Jutsu to pretend to be a Rain Nin and attack Team 7 to test them. If he could do all that he must be pretty strong. Then again it was bassically just anime filler material.

thanks ^^. in order to get the solid color..i just wear out my pencil like hell -__- i love 0.9 pencils (especially the cheap papermate kind XD) since theyre so easy to draw dark lines with and fill in hair. i just go over it over and over again >__<

I'd like to ask you all for a bit of advice for the Iruka AMV I'm working on. I'm using the song Name by the Goo Goo Dolls. Those of you who are familiar with the song know that there's a bit of a musical interlude near the end. I'm somewhat running out of clips, and for the faster part of the interlude I don't have much to use as I've already used the main "fast Iruka clips". I know there are a few episodes I don't have with Iruka in them that I could quite possibly use. Here are my options -

a. Continue to do what I've already started doing for the interlude. That being have a massive barrage of Iruka screencaps that move fast but still in time with the music.
b. Try and download the few episodes I don't have and get clips from there.
c. Cut the fast part of the interlude out entirely and finish the video with the final chorus.

Any suggestions?

One little Iruka thing I thought of the other day and thought perhaps it might start a discussion (we could use one -_-). Do you think perhaps that Iruka is a Henge no Jutsu specialist? I don't know exactly what made me think that - perhaps how well he used Henge no Jutsu against Mizuki. That was probably one of the better uses of Henge no Jutsu in the series. So what do you all think? ^_^

Hmmm, I personly don't think that Iruka is a master of Henge no Jutsu, saying that however I do believe that he is a 'Master' of the the basics. he has no particular strength, but he has no particular weakness either.

I'd agree with Fukurou. I don't think Iruka is a master of anything in particular. If he was he'd probablly be a jounin teaching that particular skill to his genin students. He just has a good balance in everything.

I think Iruka has good skills with jutsu from his use of it. As a teacher he has to use jutsu on a daily basis just to demonstrate to his students. Unlike other shinobi who, outside of training, would only use it as needed on missions.

So we could say he has a fair amount of stamina having to perform jutsu so often, and keep up with the lil academy students who no doubt rebel more often then not taking after Naruto's influence XD eh?

I'm also glad that Kishimoto hasn't altered the Jounin/chuunin costume designs. Perhaps Iruka will wear his hair differently though I think it's a safe bet it'll remain unchanged.

On Iruka being a Henge no Jutsu expert.. I think it's possible. Take a look at ep 21 when that Rain ninja kidnaps Moegi and tries to trick Sakura with a fake Sasuke. At the end, he appears before Kakashi and transforms back into Iruka! It seems Iruka is capable of a bit more, like in the genjutsu department and he probably was just toying with them in this incident. So he's probably one of the more underrated characters though still not that powerful (I guess mid to upper chuunin level.) Maybe he'll make Special Jounin one day.

roguenoir: Ah, a good point! I had forgotten about that part. Iruka did a very good job of maintaining his illusion throughout all the trials he put the Genin through.
I'm not sure he'll move past Chuunin, unfortunately. I have a feeling that he's perfectly content to be a Chuunin and teach at the Academy. Then again, perhaps that's just because I have a feeling that Kishimoto has few other future ideas for Iruka. Give us more Iruka please, Kishimoto-san! *sigh*

Hmm...Iruka x Ayame...I can picture that working. I'm a big fan of Iruka x Anko for basically the same reasons that Guranto-kun. It's hard to say if Iruka would like a calm, sweet girl like Ayame or a firey, spunky girl like Anko. I think either one would be cute (*coughcough-weneedtoseemoreofboth-cough*) but in my humble opinion I can't picture him being with a man. I imagine Kishimoto will do an Iruka Gaiden sometime in the manga or as a filler ep. In the manga it probably won't be for a while seeing as how there are so many Akatsuki to go through and the anime is focused on dear Itachi/sasuke. -__-.

One thing I always wonder though is how Iruka got his scar? We can assume it wasnt from the nine tails. He saw him getting pulled away from that battle and he had the scar but was not bleeding.

I agree - I'd especially like to see some more action sequences with him. The Iruka AMV I've been working on off-and-on has been made all the more difficult due to the fact that most of the time, Iruka is just seen talking. >_>

The AMV is going to require quite a bit of work...I only have Windows Movie Maker to work with, and there aren't a lot of clips with Iruka in the series. But it's coming along well at the moment. ^_^ I'm using "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls for it.

Oh! Guranto and I found something interesting while going through the second Naruto art book! ^o^ It appears that Iruka's made a bit of improvement between the beginning of the series and before the time skip.
The quality of the first graph looks a bit iffy, but it should work well enough anyway.

You have to look a little closely, but it looks like Iruka's intelligence has increased (no surprise there), along with his knowledge of handseals, Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. Everything else seems about the same. Most likely, he would've improved even more during the time skip, so I'm looking forward to seeing his improved graph in the next book. ^_^

I agree, Iruka is such a sweetie. There's a Naruto Character Dating Test I took (narutokun, I think) and the first two times I got Iruka. No, tsunoae, we don't have a complaint with being you being a yaoi fan. Please just keep in mind that Iruka does not equal KakaIru yaoi - this is a club for the worship of Iruka mainly. (I say this as I'm not "big" on KakaIru myself, and I want this club to be...um..."comfortable" - for lack of a better word - if any other not-quite KakaIru fans come along.) Know what I mean? I'm not sure that was worded right. >_< It's kind of late and my brain keeps on dying on me...

Oh! In regards to that Iruka AMV that I said I'm working on - essentially it's done, but Windows Movie Maker hates me, and to make a long story short, there's now this odd blip in the middle of the AMV. Boo..!

Have any of you seen the "True Naruto Style" videos or the "Ninja of the Night - The Test" AMV?
True Naruto style can be found here (you might have to be logged in for it to work) (http://narutocentral.com/index.php?page=content/extras/flashmovies.html) - it's a series of Naruto parody flash videos, and Iruka stars in the first one. They make him kind of psychotic, heh heh heh! (Oh, and he has a sort of guest appearance in the second episode.)
Ninja of the Night is sort of two AMVs...both of which are set to dialogue from some mature puppet show called "Sifl and Olly". The first one is basically Naruto and Sasuke singing along to this hillarious ninja song, and the second is a prequel to the first in which "Sifl and Olly" take their ninja exam. Iruka is set up as the teacher. :laugh

I don't keep up with the episodes - especially not the fillers - but I was fairly upset to hear that Iruka isn't doing very well against Mizuki. I was hoping that he would finally get some vengeance, but it seems Mizuki's gotten stronger in prison...One must become stronger in prison, I suppose, to avoid becoming a prison-bitch. With Mizuki's pretty hair and such, he'd be a prime target.

Not really. He's doing pretty good against a psycho filler badguy. It's been stated in the filler that Iruka was always the weaker of the two, but I don't expect that to mean he's done for. Awesome fight scene. You really should dl the filler just for that. The rest was kind of so-so, duh it's filler. But yeaaah. More detail on the Iruka getting hugged by Sandame and the 'will of fire' scene. ;-)

I downloaded episode 144 out of curiosity anyway. You're right, Iruka is doing fairly well. Even though he's not entirely pwning, it's nice to see him get to (albeit partially) open up a can of whoop-ass. ^__^

Answering previous questions.

If I were alone with Iruka I'd probably want him to tell me the basics of Chakra and Henge and bunshin no jutsu and just to to hug him, drug him, and steel his clothes so I'd have a real Chuunin outfit haha! >.> <3 those outfits. (Plus I could get Pizazz to come over and see him XD!)

As for why I like Iruka, I would have to say it's because he isn't perfect. He's a teacher who loses his temper sometimes but he does care and he understands what needs to be done in dire circumstances. He's also not afraid to cry. He is alot like I would be if I were part of the Naruto Universe. Less then a powerful Jounin but still able to hold my own kinda deal.

Now onto matters related to our club...
I'm not all that impressed with the fillers. I might've enjoyed them more if they didn't make Iruka look pathetic. Sure, I understand that Iruka doesn't necessarily specialize in combat, but he is a Chuunin - teaching classes doesn't get you Chuunin rank. Iruka had to fight in order to attain his rank. He had to earn it through strength and cunning. And he may not be training as much now that he's teaching at the Academy, but they always seem to portray him as being barely above the level of his own students. *sigh* I'm glad to see more Iruka in the series, but I'm very glad that these episodes aren't really..."official".

I posted in the "Badly Drawn Naruto Screencaps" thread with my one badly drawn screencap. It's the one when Sasuke got punched in the stomach and it looked like his head was exploding. I know a frame from the same sequence had already been posted, but the one I posted was when his mouth was closed and his face was puffy - the other one was when he was gasping afterwards. One person gave me a negative rep point saying "been dont b4 way to many times, now its just stupid".
