In that day and age, Jar Kai was very popular with both lightstaffs and double sabers. I don't really see the signifigance.

Kas'im was struggling against Bane with his double-edged lightsaber and only gained the upper hand because Bane had little experience fighting someone using Jar Kai. I still believe that Kas'im takes this though as I'd say accidentally falling to the Dark Side due to Vaapad isn't the same as being a well-schooled Sith Lord.
