Welcome to the Outskirts Battledome Introductory FAQ.

Greetings to you all. This FAQ was designed and mostly written by Comic Book Guy, with help from a whole slew of other posters in order to hopefully answer any of the basic questions that you would, could, and should know regarding the Outskirts Battledome of Naruto Forums -- and then some.

I, Haterade, am simply compiling and organizing this for CBG, who can no longer spend time working on this himself. He's done 90% of the work on this, although I've made some changes in places where I feel more, or less, needs to be said.

If you have any questions and concerns, or want to add to the FAQ, feel free to post your thoughts, and I will make the necessary edits.

FAQ updates and/or revisions will be marked by latest post of the thread. I also ask that you do not actually post in here. Your post will likely get deleted by a mod.

0. Being a Naruto Forums Poster (ya gotta know the basics!)

0.1 Foreword (in the beginning. . .)
Before the Outskirts Battledome, there is Naruto Forums. As such, you are a NF poster first and foremost before being a Battledomer. Always keep this in mind as you post.

0.2 The Rules (follow & abide by or be banned. No, you don't have a choice.)
The rules of Naruto Forums are as follows in the link below, as laid out by occasionalutopia.

http://forums.narutofan.com/announcement.php?f=97&a=116

This is mandatory reading for any member who wishes to post on Naruto Forums. It is expected of every member to know at least the basics of the rules outlined. To quote Hokage Naruto:

Read the forum's rules and the site's rules - You should do this for every forum/site, you visit. Make sure you understand what posts are allowed and not allowed so if you are banned you can't say, "I didn't know the rules.

0.3 The Forum Leaders (look up to your elders.)
The Forum Leaders are the moderators, administrators, and other notable persons key to Naruto Forums. To quote Blue, the creator of the Outskirts Battledome:

You can look up all the forum leaders under the forum leaders listing.

http://forums.narutofan.com/showgroups.php?

Under the moderators tab, you'll find the persons tasked with maintaining specific forums. If you have a question pertaining to a certain forum, PMing the moderator in charge of it would be the best course of action.

Under the administrators tab, you'll find the persons in charge of running the inner workings of the forum. If you have a question, the Administrators are probably not the best persons to ask - although we'll try to help, we're generally somewhat busy and may take some time to respond.

Under the "Akatsuki" tab you'll find the Super Moderators - moderators with knowledge of the entire forum and the ability to moderate any part of it. If you want to report something inappropriate that requires editing/removal, or have a question about the forum in general, asking an Akatsuki would be your best bet.

Shannaro! is our resident members of the Shannaro! Naruto manga scanslation team, which is affiliated in part with Narutoforums. Most of them are not involved in Narutoforum's leadership, and posing questions to them about the forum isn't a good idea. If you're looking for information about Shannaro! or want to inquire about joining the group, you can try asking one of them, or head over to the Shannaro! Forum.

Supporting staff members aren't very active on Narutoforums, and most provide services generally unrelated to the public forum. Asking anything of them probably won't net you an answer.

0.4 Flaming (water and fire extuinguishers currently in stock.)
Flaming in any way, shape, or form is absolutely not tolerated on Naruto Forums. If a NF poster flames you and/or another poster, immediately notify an available moderator and/or adminstrator. You can find a list of the moderators and administrators and the sections of NF they oversee in the link below.

http://forums.narutofan.com/showgroups.php?

Please do not retaliate and counter-flame, as flaming is still flaming. Otherwise, you may find yourself warned and/or banned.

0.5 Trolling (bridge sold separately.)
Do your best to positively contribute to the topic and the forums. Do not try to cause negative disruption to the topic, sub-forum, and/or Naruto Forums in any way, shape, or form. This includes inflammatory remarks, insults, and excessive spam. Failure to do so will result in a warning and/or ban.

If you see a poster excessively trolling, notify the moderators and/or administrators.

0.6 Respect (what goes around, comes around.)
You are a poster at Naruto Forums, one of the 75,000+ members. Treat others as you like to be treated.

"What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others."
-- Analects of Confucius, Chapter 15, Verse 23, c. 500 B.C.

1. The Outskirts Battledome (where the hell am I?)

Q. 1.1 What is the Outskirts Battledome? (the obvious question, obviously!)
A. The Outskirts Battledome (a.k.a. the OB) is a sub-forum of NarutoForums where fictional and non-fictional characters and/or entities come 'to do battle'. To quote Blue, the creator of the Outskirts Battledome:

Any and all characters from any series, anime, movie, book, what have you, can be brought into play. If you're making a thread with Naruto characters only, you might as well put it in the regular battledome. Threads with mixed Naruto/non-Naruto characters go here.

Q. 1.2 Meta-Battledome? Comics Battledome? Manga/Anime Battledome? Joke Battledome? (I'm confused as hell. . .)
A. The Meta-Battledome is a sub-forum of the OB where issues regarding vs. threads or pertaining to the OB are discussed, not the actual battles.

For example, one may set-up a thread in the Meta-Battledome for
-discussing the effects of Genjutsu on non-Naruto characters who lack chakra systems
-the properties of ki in the Dragon Ball Z universe
-establishing character tiers for a fictional universe in order to inform newcomers and other posters
-conducting participant registration for an OB tourny

The Comic Battledome is a sub-forum of the OB where the characters and/or entities involved in the vs. threads all comes from comicdom.

Examples of Comic Battledome vs. threads involving characters from comicdom are Batman (DC Comics) vs. Captain America (Marvel Comics), John Constantine (VERTIGO) vs. Midnighter (Wildstorm), and Spawn (Image) vs. Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics)

The Anime/Manga Battledome is a sub-forums of the OB where the characters and/or entities involved in the vs. threads all comes from either anime, manga, or both.

Examples of Anime/Manga vs. threads involving characters from anime and/or manga are Sesshomaru (InuYasha) vs. Alucard (Hellsing), Omnimon (Digimon) vs. Mewtwo (Pokemon), and Heero piloting Wing Gundam Zero (New Mobile Report: Gundam Wing) vs. Rei Ayanami piloting Evangelion Unit 00 (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

The Joke Battledome is a sub-forum of the OB where one can create vs. threads out of sheer amusement and spam. To put it simply, the OB version of the (in)famous Konoha Blender.

Q. 1.3 What are the rules of the Outskirts Battledome? (sacred commandments?)
A. In addition to adhering to the rules of Naruto Forums, there is one rule, found here (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=27231).

2. Vs. Threads (Round 1! FIGHT!)

Q. 2.1 What should I keep in mind before creating a vs. thread? (an absence of common sense?)
A. Before you make a vs. thread, use the Search function to see whether or not the vs. thread you have in mind had already been created.

If the vs. thread that you have in mind has already been created, please read through the still-existing vs. thread. Chances are that the still-existing vs. thread had arrived to the conclusion as to which character(s) would win in the match-up, if not at least provide sufficient information for you to come to your own conclusion as to who would win.

Thus:

If the still-existing vs. thread had already arrived to a conclusion as to who would win, then refrain from creating another vs. thread of the same match-up.

If the still-existing vs. thread was inconclusive with regards to the match-up, and you still desire for a conclusion, then bump up the still-existing vs. thread.

Otherwise, if the vs. thread you have in mind have not been created, then proceed to create it.

Q. 2.2 What should I keep in mind when I create a vs. thread? (fancy, schmancy stuff?)
A. Things that you, the thread creator, should keep in mind are:

-whether the thread you are creating conforms to the rules according to both Naruto Forums and the Outskirts Battledome
-whether the thread you are creating is created in the appropiate sub-forum of the OB
-whether the topic is of a controversial nature that could possibly provoke participants into a flamewar
-battle variables (for vs. threads), such as battlefield, bloodlust, win via KO, ring-out, or death, etc.
-the amount of detail you cover and include in the opening post of your thread
-make sure to list which series each character you're matching up against each other is from (ex. "Goku [DBZ] vs. Dark Schneider ")

B. The thread entitled "OB Members: Let's improve our own boards... (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=260551)" is another thread where you guidelines of what constitutes threads that are the least likely to result in flames and/or spam can be found.

Q. 2.3 How should I detail the opening post of my vs. thread?
A. In the opening post (abbr. OP) of your vs. thread, always try to be as detailed and specific as possible with regards to the elements of the match-up; speculation is best to be minimized as much as possible for the convenience of those who would participate in your vs. thread.

The following battle variables that you should account for are as listed in Khamzul's proposed OP template as seen in the quoted post below.

I'm new to these forums, but one thing I have noticed. Often people end up arguing about the setting of the fight, rather than who would win. Example: Ninja vs Pirate. To determine a logical winner it is vital to know more about the setting of the fight (sea favors pirate, forest favors ninja?). Even if this is added later in the tread, it (almost) always creates confusion.

Therefore I have created this template, hopefully it could be used by threadstarters in all the battledomes. Has this been done before, forgive me my ignoreance. Feedback is very appreciatied.

X vs Y
Battlefield: (example: USA, Earth)
Starting Points: (detailed, example: Huge desert)
Distance: (default value - 20-40 meters)
Bloodlust: (Yes/No)
Finish: (Death / Knockout / out of Battlefield / Stated in detail)
Prep-Time: (Yes/No)
Resources & Equipment: (example: Bat Utility Belt,
Knowledge of Opponent(s): (abilities, capabilities, powers, knowledge, and/or history)
Handicap: (example: Gai cannot use gates)
Notes: (detailed, example: Both fighters gets double power, but IQ reduced / Opponent X is immune to poison)

Although you do not have to use this template for every single vs. thread you create, it is best to keep in mind these match-up specifics when you detail the opening post to your vs. thread for the convenience for the thread participants.

Q. 2.4 Are there different kinds of vs. threads that I can create? (like intimate vs. threads?)
A. Yes.

Vs. threads do not have to be always about battles, combat, and fights. There are a variety of scenarios which can be employed for a vs. thread.

For example, you can create vs. threads concerning:

-who would eat the most between Luffy of One Piece and Son Goku of Dragon Ball Z
-who would win in chess between Shikamaru Nara of Naruto and Batman of DC Comics
-who is the most emo between Kira Yamato of Gundam SeeD and Shinji Ikari of Neon Genesis Evangelion

So again, to reiterate, there are different kinds of vs. threads that you can create, from other angles concerning competition to the humourous funny and outright bizarre!

Q. 2.5 Are there certain vs. threads that are not allowed in the Outskirts Battledome? (like the involvement of nudity and countless hours of 'intense, competitive' sex?)

A. Threads created for the express purpose(s) of negatively mocking, ridiculing, offending, and/or insulting another NF member or group of NF members in any way, shape, or form are prohibited here at the entire NF, least the OB.

Vs. threads created for the purpose of continuing a war or making an obvious, redundant point are prohibited -- such threads would serve as baiting threads that may lead into flamewars.

Vs. threads that purely has a Naruto character battling another Naruto character aren't allowed here -- they belong in the Naruto Avenue battledomes, which are listed as follows:

Naruto Dub Battledome
Naruto Anime Battledome
Naruto Manga Battledome

3. Battledome Etiquette

3.1 Open-Mindedness
We all have our respective knowledge, and we have our own ways to approach a topic. However, we may not necessarily be right all the time. With the participation of other posters and their insight, we all may have our views and opinions questioned.

3.2 Tolerance
The Outskirts Battledome is a place of debate. That said, it's inevitable that not everyone will agree with one another, whatever the reason(s) may be.

We all have our differences of opinion. Some will say that there is a clear, absolute victor between Goku and Superman; some will say that Naruto is as powerful as One Piece, if not more; some will say that Naruto is as powerful as Bleach, if not more; the differences between our opinions with regards to certain topics are numerous as they are diverse.

Although conflict over differences is inevitable in a place like the OB, this does not mean we are unable to co-exist and conduct a civil debate with one another.

3.3 Flaming (flame, and I will drown you to put you out.)
Depending on the thread topic, participants, and differences of opinions, the conflict between posters could develop to be intensely serious and, at times, personal. If left unchecked, the heated conflict may erupt into a flamewar.

I said it before, and I will say it again.

Flaming in any way, shape, or form is absolutely not tolerated on Naruto Forums. If a NF poster flames you and/or another poster, immediately notify an available moderator and/or adminstrator. You can find a list of the moderators and administrators and the sections of NF they oversee in the link below.

3.4 Respect (R-E-S-P-E-C-T! That's what it means to me!)

You all know what it means. Be sure to practice it's use liberally.

Index of Useful Threads

The Meta Battledome is often neglected by newer members, but hopefully, this post can direct you to some of the more interesting and useful threads there.

The Battledome Quick Question (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=94177) thread is pretty self explanatory. If you have a question, but don't feel like making an entirely new thread to do it, then post it there.

The General OBD Assumptions (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=247288) thread is a good resource for new members to help them decide the outcomes of battles should an opening poster not be specific in the details of their battle's conditions.

The thread on Common OBD Terminology (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=264360) and Phrases is basically a glossary of terms for new members to learn certain terms without having to feel embarrassed by having to ask.

The thread on Logical Fallacies (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=161731) is a fantastic resource to properly identify mistakes in another's(or your's) logic contained within their arguments.

The Powers Directory (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=57648) is the all-in-one thread for feats of random characters.

This thread, which I feel should have been renamed quite some time ago (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=122317), is the OBD's homemade manga. It even comes complete with listed feats as well.

The Marvel Comics Top 20 Mutants (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=186674) thread is a well put together resource of information on... mutants.

In the Top 5 of the Sith (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=212924) thread, readers unfamiliar with the Star Wars universe can pick up quite a bit of info about Sith abilities.

The Skill Tier List (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=254792) thread was created to rank characters based upon their level of skill in martial combat.

The Swordsmen Tier List (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=139602) is to rank characters based upon their level of skill in martial combat, only when the character listed mainly uses a sword for attack and defense.

The thread of Calculated and Calculable Feats (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=242245) is a thread where actual numbers on a character's feats can be produced.

This thread is on Narutoverse's speed (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=245202), which is one of the most controversial topics in the entire subforum.

There is a Bleach equivalent in the Bleach Speed (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=240219) thread, to the thread linked above.

In addition to the Bleach and Naruto speed calculations threads, there are multiple incarnations for One Piece. The Real OP speed / strength thread. (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=233441), One Piece is probably faster than you thought (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=184491), and OP Speed Part Deux, Or Bad News at Black Rock (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=184491).

There is also a speed analysis thread on Hunter x Hunter, How Fast is HxH? Damn Fast (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?p=8047022). HxH also has another analysis thread, Piptester's Guide to Nen Combat (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=202550).

This thread, the Kenshin/Naruto/ One Piece/ Bleach / Hunter X Hunter Speed Discussion Thread (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=135129), is a joint effort by many debaters to provide as much info an several manga at once.

The One Piece Tier List (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=103310) thread is a resource to help decide where each OP character ranks in power within their own series.

The Something to remember in comic book matchups (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=35062) thread was created in the hopes of making posters realize the different versions of comic characters and how they affect potential matchups.

And finally, there are two threads, DBZ Speed? (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=93638) and DBZ Speed (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=135737), which were both created to calculate just that, the speed of Dragonball Z characters, which is a very controversial topic.

When creating a verses battle, the first thing to do is to look in the Index thread and see if another person has beaten you to it. If there isn't a link to it there, then read on!

One of your responabilities as a thread creator is to attract people to your thread, i don't mean by having the title as 'Free Beer!' but instead having a nice layout with information about the battle in the first post.
Two threads to also keep in mind are the Common OBD Terminology and Phrases (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=264360) and General OBD Assumptions (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=247288) threads, both contain useful information required to make a good thread.

These are a few bits to include in the starting post (Credit to Khamzul)

Battlefield: (example: USA, Earth)
Starting Points: (detailed, example: Huge desert)
Distance: (default value - 20-40 meters)
Bloodlust: (Yes/No)
Finish: (Death / Knockout / out of Battlefield / Stated in detail)
Prep-Time: (Yes/No)
Resources & Equipment: (example: Bat Utility Belt,
Knowledge of Opponent(s): (abilities, capabilities, powers, knowledge, and/or history)
Handicap: (example: Gai cannot use gates)
Notes: (detailed, example: Both fighters gets double power, but IQ reduced / Opponent X is immune to poison)

Threads with these details often avoid confusion and requests for clarification later on.
Pictures and information are also a good idea, specially for characters that are relatively new to the Outskirts Battledome. Often a link to a Respect dome article can make a big difference in a debate with correct information available to analyse.

If your thread roughly follows this template, post a link to it in the Index thread and the moderators will etch its place in the OBD

Example of a starting thread is below-

Thanos of Titan v Gemini Saga

Thanos of Titan

Information on Thanos can be found Here! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanos)

Verses!

Gemini Saga

information on Saga can be found Here! (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=2640497&postcount=52) and Here! (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=2640908&postcount=53) Credit to DarkLordDragon.

Battlefield: Athena's Santuary
Starting Points: Saga's temple.
Distance: 50 Metres from each other
Bloodlust: Yes
Finish: Knock Out
Prep-Time: No
Resources & Equipment: Thanos has shield and standard tech. Saga has gold cloth armor.
Knowledge of Opponent(s): No
Handicap: Saga can only use 7th Sence and below. Thanos may not teleport Saga.
Notes: We assume Saga can breathe in space without issues for this battle.

This is the index thread for the main Outskirts Battledome, please read through this thread to avoid creating duplicate threads.

Read through This (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=274531) thread and if your battle is set out well, i'll add it to the OBD index.
