I agree. The Valley of the End battle was just poorly drawn. It was well animated and it looked "cool". But if you take a look at their faces and all, no.

During one specific episode, they seemed to switch teams completely. This was when the entire animation-style changed and they all went semi-chibis. Their heads became bigger, their bodies smaller and the way their faces were drawn changes dramatically (for this one specific episode).

A lot of the time, you couldn't tell it was them just from their faces. Remove Naruto's whiskers and give him a new hairdo, give Sasuke a new hairdo and you've got Jimmy and James or whoever, two completely new random characters who dress like Naruto and Sasuke.

I still cannot believe that it hasnt gotten to some people that Matsumoto episodes were well animated, not well drawn. Fluid animation, yes, good character design, mostly no. Its very understandable that lower quality frames are required for high quality frame-rate but that does not matter squat when it comes to this particular thread.

There was nothing wrong with the character design or drawing either. Every time someone posts a picture from his episodes saying "OMG LOOK ITS BAD LOOKIN" it's because it's in the middle of an animation scene. That doesn't mean it's poorly drawn. It's all done in Matsumoto's style.

the anatomy on sakura's left arm is incorrect. gaara temari and kankuro are
nearly correct but consider it's hard to draw a face properly when so small.
shikamaru's face is too long. If you look at the different between the first 2 sakura pictures, on one the eyes are too big, the other too small.
But most of those drawings are quite good.

Wtf is wrong with you ppl, while i agree with some of those, im looking at the pics from fight scense like sasuke vs oro or naruto vs sasuke. Those animators are VERY VERY good, there my favorite animators or naruto. But the screen shots of fights like naruto vs kiba...AGREED horrible animation, but thats becuase i think naruto has many diffrent animator studios. It comes with the trade. Animators have to exaggerate large amounts sometimes but only very briefly in order to get the "impact" of the action across to the viewer. Usually these insane mutations are only shown for a brief fraction of a second, but it lends to an exaggerated effect that ALL cartoons share. You can find these kinds of things in just about any mainstream animation.

Teams 1 & 11: Better than nearly all of Part 1.
Teams 3, 5, 7: On par, if not better than 90% of Part 1 animation.
Teams 4, 10: On par, if not somewhat lower than most of Part 1 animation.
The rest: Ugh.

Team 4 is just schitzo. 4 was... meh. Standard. Ep 12 was really good. Ep 20 was standad. Ep 28 was poor.

Hey I re-watched the fillers 140-220 this summer holiday.

And they're better than I remember! Alot of the animations were the main teams (NARA Studios?), I'm not sure which numbering, and the show looked distinctly japanese and fluid and well animated. Especially the one shots, and the 5 episode arcs.

Overall I'd have estimated about 20 really bad/awkward looking episodes. I think they were partly Studio Wyeth and the new studios. Examples include GI Joe muscle-man Naruto, and "you look so kewl again!". I believe those were the ones that introduced the newer korean animators we have in Shippuuden. So by my estimation, 8/10 of that 2 year filler being still good seems reasonable.

Shippuuden has 12 well animated episodes. The other 14 look awkwardly non anime-like or not fluid. Worse of all, there was some good animation hidden in them 14 [fight scenes] but they were played at 1/2 speed. wtf?!
So Shippuuden has 4/10s good animation, hence half as good as the filler hell :P
