How do you listen to music? Switch on a random song and tune in?
I personally begin with whatever I'm feeling at that moment and slowly move from song to song to whatever I feel like.
If I'm tuned in to rock music, I can't immediately switch over to relaxing music and vice versa so I listen to songs with slight differences between them. Howard's Jazz Trance comes to my mind.
For example:
Typical rock music.
Airbourne - Too Much Too Young Too Fast
Several Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jack Penate - Torn on the Platform
Travis - Closer
Probably some Angus and Julia Stone and typical relaxing music.
What would be your ultimate playlist?

My iPod has about 5K songs and usually, when I turn it on.. I shuffle every song. My tastes range anywhere from Metal, to Jazz, to Country to Classical so.. yeah. You can imagine what the switch is like from song to song at times.

I just listen to music based on what I feel like listening to, or then I listen to new music regardless of my mood. I can listen to something really calm and then switch to something really heavy if I feel like it.

If I listened to Metal then to Jazz, I would probably have some sort of cardiac arrest of the ears and head.
Everyone else around me has no problem with it though.

I just listen to what ever song I feel like at the time. Some days I can't stand my favorite song, other days I can't live with out it.

Depends, really.
Sometimes I'd only listen to a certain/artist band for a week non-stop, then wouldn't listen to them again for a few months.
Depends on my mood, too.

Primarily, I put on an album of whatever I am currrently loving hard, and then put a selection of albums in the playlist to follow it. Some days its all thematic, some days it is deliberately chaotic, others I use to make sure I spin albums I love that I may have not had time for lately. I do love a LOT of fucking music, so finding time for it all requires conscious effort. Last.fm is a good tool for that I find.

I'm with the MD regs on this one as well.
Though, there are some bands I never get tired of listening to, ever.

With music, I have this tendency towards listening one song consistently for hours, this may last as long as a week. After which I never listen to the song again. Sometimes I listen to my complete playlist and the jump from things like opera to jpop doesn't particularly bother me.
