Hello everyone!

A question for all you out there that is not blue eyed and blonde! What is your general opinion and view of the swedes? Face it: for being a small (9 million ppl) country living at the top of world we are mentioned in loads of movies, books, songs and is genrally used as something to lean you arguments against. Like ''this is recommended by the Swedish dental association!''.
Do you think everyone is blonde? Do we have polar bears on the streets? Do everyone live in small red cottages at the top of a mountain? One thing is sure.. wwe tricked all you... we sell moose shit in bottles to stupid turists! MUHAHAHAH! *cough* Well i need you opinion...

I think the common misconception that all swedish people are blonde, is because that haircolor is originally from scandinavia. I've been to sweden a few times and it's really not as spectacular as I thought. :/ But you guys make great metal music. :laugh

You should add another important fact: Every swedish person is a viking and worships Odin :thumbs

anyway, i think swedes are good people that have polar bears on the streets live in small red cottages at the top of a mountain. But I'm sure there are bad apples as well who'd use that polar bear to rob banks.

But like pilaf said, i prefer to generate opinion based on individuals...since not all Persians in my class make noises during lectures. But most do. So, I'll say the presumptions i have about Swedes i this case, are not bad. I don't think I've met any Swedes yet though. Not many of them in my country.

Why should I have a general opinion about an entire nation of people?

I choose to form my opinions on each individual I meet, regardless of nationality, gender, "race", sexuality or any other characteristic. What I look for is a person with character. A good work ethic, a sense of humor, the right kind of morals. Why should I care if he's a Swede or an Iraqi?

Well the normal reaction for a human being is to when you hear about a person is to make up an image in its head how this person looks how he behaves etc. when you then mention sex, nationality and race many people form a better picture of that person. All humans have a picture in thier head how a specific person from a specific nation/race should be. And i know that there is many missconception of how swedes are and what sweden looks like.. so i thought it would be intresting to know the opinion from people from all nations!

IKEA is set on world domination by slowly making everything buyabel rrom thier stores. They then remove some of the importants bits so that when you use the item it brakes. combine this with strange customers service and you will soon see weapons and tanks all over the world brake down as they are being used. Then the swedish moose cavallery will invade! No but seriousl i agree they make it harder then it should be :D

Jupp.. but downloading actually became illegal last year.. we were crushed.. but a flaw in swedish law makes it possible to download without any consekvens!!

If the police want legal rights to see whos name is behind th IP adress the crime they are suspected needs to give a punishment of atleast 2 years in prison.. The highest punishment for downloading is 14-days in prison or 5000 kr in fines....
Apperantly we have som dowloaders in the goverment :D

They make awesome Swedish Death Metal, and they have got some good food and good lookin' cities, but really, the exchange student group came from Sweden consisted of only emos, punks, goths and moar emos. :ı There's something with their teenagers, but who the hell knows.

People think that we are welldeveloped, but the whole system has bigger flaws than some other countries. There is a huge lack of work for the people, and the country is too kind to criminal activity along with letting people into the country.

I would say sweden is a country that's alright, but has some things that should be taken care of before it can be called a 'good' country.

well i've read that somewhere that swedish people are envious of the success of their newer neighbors, how norway has oil and finland has i guess the mobile phone companies and related internet ventures. sweden is sort of more stagnant/traditional economy, plus a lot of swedes are increasingly fearful for the future, they may be forced to integrate more into the EU and they are worried they will be like "assimilated" and lose their unique cultural aspects in order to compete more efficiently on a global scale in the future. their whole welfare state appartus may need to be dismantled slowly as well, and i think many swedes are half aware of this and it troubles them and makes them anxious. iceland is pretty rockin' i kinda wish i lived there. denmark not quite so much it seems a little racist and stuff

um yeah they do have some good stuff and it sure is great that things are moving along smoothly for our neighbours but i wouldnt say that its bothering us at all and i dont really feel that either of them is becoming "more powerful" than us (heck we love when norways doing good and has lots of job opportunitys then we can pop over and work some when the job market heres slow).

and i can safeley say its not worrying us that much since weve got plenty of things to sell ourselves like for instance Weapons, Motorvehicles, paper, and chemicals. And then we have the things like for instance sports,Music,litterature,movies and television where i feel were superior to both of em togehter so no dont worry bout us feeling inferior to the finns and norweigians:laugh

but yeah your probably right that people might be worried that times are changing, but that would also ring true for finland in that case, and no i cant say that i agree that Iceland is a rocking place pretty damn dull in my opinion but to each his own.

It was a bit fun reading this. Acatually, I think every country jumps to conclusions about others easily, unless you have been there and seen it yourself. I mean, this with porn and blonde girls for one thing.

However, meatballs tastes pretty good. We have democracy here. Our country has it's flaws just like any other. I guess it's just a country that doesn't make a big fuss. It's a cool country.

I also think it's annoying that we are mixed up with Switzerland (obviously). We are not THAT much alike. Switzerland has cheese, chocholate, mountains, cows, and is located in the middle of Europe. Sweden has meatballs, cold winters (more or less), vikings, and it's located in Northern Eurpoe. I guess it's the names that does it.

It's interesting to read others thoughts about Sweden. I know that when I visited the USA and Italy, I was surprised. Ones picture of a country is not always correct. A lot of jokes and assumtions messes it up a bit.

Well Sweden is the best country in the world imo due to that we haven't has been part of wars the past 200 years and that we have always used our diplomacy skills to help other countries more than our own cause we are so "developed" but still we are always in the top five best countries to live in list so I bet we are a pretty good country.

Lol and here I am with 50% Finland, 25% German and 25% Swedish genes in my blood I am still born n raised in this country and I'm only speak Swedish and English so I can proclaim myself as:
