For people that like some drama mixed with action, I reccomend
Kino no tabi which translates to "Kino's travels" or "Kino's journey.

This is a short-story type anime, where each story or scenario concludes in 1 ~ 2 episodes. (short and crisp ^^)

It tells of the people and countries that Kino and Kino's companian: a talking motorcycle, (a bit of out-there-ness) Hermes encounter. Full of drama and some intense gun-fights. It also provokes much thought to what it means to be what we are. for example, is it right to kill another animal so that you can help another human being? are the human beings deserving to be saved? are the animals desevering to be killed?

It also is a what-if type of anime, with the different countries Kino enters, a country where the people do not have to work, a country ruled by majority, and a country where people are telepathic just to name a few.

Hope you guys check it out and like it as much as I did!~

-I personally haven't seen the anime but I love the manga, Flame of Recca I would highly recommend if you love Naruto. If you're looking for a lot of comedy and something episodic there's always the classic Slayers and the newer bishonen fest, Saiyuki, I'm not a huge fan of either but some of you might like. And if you want a series that will probably take the rest of your life to collect, One Piece. Another classics include 3X3 Eyes and Rurouni Kenshin.



Drama (Yeah, I love dramatic stories)... some of the are romantic ones
-one I highly recommend that's a shouji is Revolutionary Girl Utena
. There's also Planetes, if you like gorgeous girl love there's Maria-sama ga Miteru. If you like something that's dark and elaborate there's Texhnolyze. Now and Then Here and There is an overlooked post apocalyptic ball of angst

Just so you know Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, and Cat Returns were all in the Top 50 Video sales chart the week they came out. I believe that considering at Suncoast we couldn't keep them in stock :smile-big Nausicaa debuted at #14, Cat Returns #27 and Porco Rosso #49. Plus apparently Howl's Moving Castle comes out sometime this summer, it'd be awesome if they did another triple release! The sales should more than encourage them to bust out with more Miyazaki releases

I'd like to reccomend NaruTaru, because while it seems to be a show about kids and their pet monsters (think Pokemon) it's actually VERY dark, and doesn't seem to fit into any other category besides Horror.

Naruto

I shouldn't even have to explain this little peice of anime heaven. For those new to the series (IF YOU HAVE BEEN UNDER A ROCK ALL YOUR LIFE!) and need a little summary - Naruto is your basic 'hero-against-all-odds' action/super-power anime. It follows the life of Naruto, a ninja from the Leaf Village. Alot of action and even some seriousness mixed in.

Scryed

This is another awesome super-power action anime out there (which is now available on the american market). A new species of human, called 'Alter Users' have been created because of a strange occurance (WHICH I CANT SAY :P). Lots of action in this one folks

Samurai Champloo

Take the Samurai X OVA's and mix them with Cowboy Bebop and you'd get this little peice of heaven called Samurai Champloo. Besides is overall great animation and action, the soundtrack is also equally as great.

Want an anime that will make you think and scare you at the same time? Look no further because this on-going anime shall deliver. Following the trials and tribulations of Dr. Tenma, you are spun into a strange world of murder that has more twists then my curly hair!

Series Experiment Lain

I'm not easily creeped out, but Lain came close to it. I can't really explain this one for yah folks, its more of a visual learning experience. The depth taat the series goes into is great and even for 13 episodes it keeps you glued to your tv (Or PC you dirty leechers :P).

Some would clasify this as a fantasy, when I really think it fits good under the drama/serious genre. You follow the problemic journies of Tsukasa, a player in the game called The World; who is trapped and attempting to find a way out. The ending really is a confusing mess, but hell I thought it was better that way.

Mecha! - Its gets its own Genre because it ROCKS!

Robotech

By far one of the best Giant Robot(Mecha) animes out today. Although this pretty package was founded back in the 80's, its storyline and action is on par with (if not beating hands-down) most Mecha anime out on the market today. A must for any Mecha Otaku's collection.

Macross Plus

An OVA mini-series based soley on Robotech. New animation and a some what coherent plot make this a nice addition to the Robotech universe. I suggest you get it after you've seen the original Robotech series.

Mobile Suit Gundam

Another 80's Giant Robot bonanza that started it all. This was the first in the Gundam Universe to start a linear series until its later incarnations. HAIL ZEON!

Gundam Wing

A spin-off of Gundam in which totally new mobile suits are presented, as well as a totally different storyline from the original Gundam storyline. It is good for those who dont/can't deal with the 80's animation.

Magic Knight Rayearth - 3 girls get chosen to save a planet from extinction, and they get to ride giant robots!

Comedy:
Cardcaptor Sakura - nice and light story. no real evil/ villains here.
Akazukin Cha-Cha - fun, fun, fun! cha-cha is a little witch, and her job is to protect the world from that evil sorcerer of sort.
Super Boink - i haven't really seen the entire series, but having a flying superhero pig sure is bound to be funny.
Saber Marionette - 'tis about robot housemaids (marionettes). well, i used to watch this when i was younger.

This thread is nice, certainly a good way to find new anime to watch, but you should elaborate a bit more on the descriptions of each series. Just a few keywords about each anime would help a lot. Just saying this because I'd like to find a few new series that are to my liking, but I don't want to be an annoyance by starting a new thread just for people to recommend me stuff (this thread was supposed to stop that, right?).

I'll be a retard and ask anyway, here in this thread. I hope that's more acceptable than starting a new, useless thread. What I'm looking for is something with action but also emotional depth, fighting but also romance, friendship and loss. I'd definitely recommend Pani Poni Dash! for comedy, it's ridiculously funny. The only way I can really think to describe it is Azumanga Daioh mixed with Excel Saga. Lots of parodies, too. (As of episode 13, there've actually been at least two Monty Python (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/shamansanchez/foot.png) references, of all things)

How can you make such a list and not have Seikai no Monshou and Seikai no Senki (Crest/Banner of the Stars) in it. I find such a thing to be unforgivable. Since I cannot think of a better place within your categories, I will say that it should be placed in drama. It would however have been easier, if you had made a category just called science fiction, instead of specifying it to be mecha.

OH well, as a mater of fact, the specific genre that you would classify this series in is properly space opera (which you would also classify a thing like Star Wars as, if it was anime)

If you like drama type animes Kimi Ga Nozomu is one of the best. It's rated #1 out of 200 at animenfo.com. It's really depressing, but it's so good that you'll keep watching it until you finish.

If you like school comedies GTO ( Great Teacher Onizuka) is a great anime to check out. It's very funny and has a great dub.

If you like a mix of comedy, action, and drama Chrno Crusade has it all. Though it gets a little too serious later on for the comedy to fit in. Also if your the religous type this anime might offend you.

If you like old medevil action type animes Berserk is just for you. Though it is very bloody and the first few episodes are pretty gloomy you have to watch past episode 4 for it to start getting interesting. Also the ending is not really good.

if you like comedy mixed in with a little bit of science fiction Saber Marionette J is a good pick.

Mai-Otome - The girls and guys are back at it again. Except this time, it's in an alternate universe with no direct relationship to the first Mai-Hime. It has more fanserver and the story is awesome.

Fate Stay Night - This is another good action anime. The first episode may be a bit slow... but the fight scenes are brilliant. I love the art and animation.

Drama

Shuffle! - This one is more of a romance/comedy. You will be hooked by the story, especially later on. There's plenty of ecchi in this anime.

Full Metal Panic: FUMOFFU - This one is very hillarious. The first episode had me LMAO.

History buffs should give Zipang a try. A modern day Japanese SDF ship goes back in time and finds itself stuck in the middle of WWII, obviously raising a lot of ethical issues of what to do given their situation. Get ready to put up with a fair amount of Japanese nationalism though.

It's not getting much attention, but I started watching a few days ago on a whim and I think it's one of the better shows going right now. All 26 episodes have finished airing, we're just waiting for Digital-Panic to finish subbing.

I recommend Gintama. It's a new series with only 13 episodes out (and next to no subbing groups DX SOMEBODY SUB IT PLEASE!!!!) It's been a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump, and has 11 volumes out in Japan so far. It's a comedy that mixes traditional Japan with the future. Basically aliens have discovered Earth and have basically moved in and have taken charge to a certain degree (think current immigration situations in the US) the samurai were against their coming and many battles occurred until the government issued a sword ban forcing many samurai out of work. Out of a job Sakata Gintoki is a freelancer, with a violent sweet tooth and a Weekly Jump addiction, who will do any odd job for money. The anime is chock full of references to various series including Bleach, which airs right before it. Viz included a preview chapter of it in it's January issue of Shonen Jump, but never gave a release date, only a website where you could complete a survey on it. I really want other people to see it because everyone I've showed it to has LOVED it, and I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves. You can watch raw episodes on youtube.

I want something where the music is kinda melancholy too, with pianos ftw... I guess I"m looking for happy loveable characters who horrible things happen to them lol.

OVA 1 is out now, but OVA 2 is coming soon next week I think. It has alot of action, some comedy, and a crazy plot! Alucard will entertain you for a while XD

Recommend me anime!

I'm in love with Ginga Densetsu Weed! I just started watching it the other day and it's the kind of anime that I've been looking for. The animation is nice and crisp and it's drawn quite well.

I like animals. I like animals a lot. I loved Wolf's Rain and I'm loving Ginga Densetsu. I'm also in the process of downloading Arashi no Yoru ni because it looks sooo cute. Hamutaro was alright. I also like anime with a plot and little to no fillers.

So, I'm looking for other anime that stars animals with a serious plot.

Of course I'm going to continue watching them and reading the manga.
