As the title say, I am looking for romantic anime in the style of Ah! My Goddess. and/or a romantic drama- tearjerker kinda thing :)
- And yes, I have read the recommendation thread

I's is pretty good with comedy thrown in as well.
The anime sucks as it cuts up the story, which is why I recommend the Manga.

I've never watched Ah! My Goddess, but ~

Full moon wo sagashite - HUGE tearjerker. Romance of course.
Card captor Sakura - such a great romance anime.
Fruits Basket - drama/romance

hmmm

Hanbun No Tsuki Ga Noboru Sora (see sig)
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (Wunderfull story, but deffenly very emotional.)
Is Pure (Quite a mix, but romantic none the less)
Onegai Teacher (comidy romance etc)
Suzuka (school romance)
Futakoi (twins, lots of twins)
Da capo (Magical, romance, lots of girls)
Iriya no Sora UFO no Natsu (summer love, short story)
Ai Yori Aoshi (mix)
Mahoromatic (mix (robot maid))
midori no hibi (Very werd, but extreamly good, comandy romance)
Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na (Mix, but basicly love that spans two worlds and a war. And a lot of fun along the way.)
Chobits (humon style robots, love, life, what is life? mystry and comady)
AIR (great story, expect to cry)
Kanon (Mix, amazing story as well, some type of deal as air but in winter.)

ichigo 100% - romantic comedy, short but good. Check out the manga for the better version.

peach girl - a love triangle with so many f'd up things happening to break the couples up.

school rumble - more comedy than romance, but it's there ;o

Sakura Dairies - another short series, about a ronin who pretends to be a student at Keio university to hook up with some girl. This one's also a love triangle

Lamune - about childhood friends that are more than childhood friends - except they don't know it.

Canvas 2 - about an art student who becomes a teacher and lives with his cousin(she's in love with him) and his experiences as he meets his high school crush(well most of his early life) as a co-worker.

DearS - whacky story about aliens coming to earth and getting citizen ship; one of the dysfunctional ones ends up in the hands of an alien hater and so on. A mix of romance/comedy and some action

hmm maby I wont then, its not on any of my normal download sites anyways. The desciption pointed it out, but I cant really tell from the description how far it goes. I will just put it on the debate list then.

Most of the animes on this site i eather have, or decided againts, 90% I have or are on my list too download. But that one I had never come across at all lol.

that sounds an awful lot like Canvas 2 :P

except that they're cousins and the age gap is a bit closer (still a sizable gap), but teacher/student and cousins aspect is a bit weird, plus their was the whole "choosing your cousin over your childhood sweetheart" that took the cake >_>

*just read the synopsis for Koi Kaze*

Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru.... Hmm... I think I read a reveiw somewhere that named it the worst manga EVER.

Edit: Found it :)
You know, maybe the title should have tipped me off on this one. But I'm the kind of fool who's dumb enough to give anything a fair shot once, especially when it's accompanied by the wailing of shoujo obsessives who claim that they were utterly moved by the emotional drama and trauma and anything else that ends in -ama. So I'm reading this series, having at least a mild inkling of what the premise entails, and trying to buy into the depth of this guy's conflicted feelings for his twin sister. Except there ISN'T ANY! (Depth, that is.) This story is basically about a guy who wants to bone his little sister. That is IT. Why the hell did I ever think there would be any sort of expansion on this theme? They basically spend each chapter getting dangerously close with each other, often in explicit ways, and this smut is repeated over and over until you just want to read some conservative, pedantic pre-Tezuka shoujo manga about how little Chieko became a good obedient wife and waits every day to serve dinner to her salaryman husband because he gets so tired from perpetuating the Japanese economic miracle. Now, there are some "taboo" series that have been done well—I'm thinking Koi Kaze or Hourou Musuko—but I would not, among any of them, include "BokuImo," which should be killed with God's purifying fire.

hi!
Im searching for a dramatic anime (apocalypic or post-apocalyptic would be good) with genuine (is that the right word?) and deep characters (I dont like those polite-type swalow characters if you know what i mean) and character development;
it would be good if itd involve some kind of fighting (but please no mecha)

any ideas?

I'd highly reccomend Ghost in the Shell (both movies) and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2.

Try and get the subbed verision by Laughing Man, why? Because once you see that verision and then see the dubbed verision you realize just how hard it is to translate GitS. The ideas and plots are completed and convulted but make sense though you might have to watch the series a couple times. Of course if you're not in the mood for that each epi can stand alone too. I'm not sure where I'd put it catogerically but it's definitely one of the most complete anime universes I've seen and one of the best all time

A few anime besides bleach and naruto that I quite enjoyed:

-Death Note :anime ongoing, manga is completed-108 chapters. my favorite ever...
- Ghost Hunt: 25 episodes, completed. (i hope there's a second season though...) genre: mystery-ish I guess. not really horror, although there are a few scary scenes.
- Higurashi no naku koro ni: 26 episodes I think. It's in the horror genre. But it was pretty cool, even though the game is better
-Night Head Genesis: 24 episodes. Not sure what genre I'd categorize this in. But it was interesting, if I'm not mistaken it was based on some TV series from the 1990s.
-Elfen Lied seems very very promising. But I watched the first 5 minutes and decided it was too gory. (I had just finished watching higurashi no naku koro ni at the time, so decided to lay off the gore for a while)
-D.Gray Man! It's cool...read the manga too!!
-and of course Full Metal Alchemist. :)

does anyone have any other anime reccommendations for the mystery/horror genre? or anythging along the lines of FMA, Bleach? I'm not too big on the girly/mecha/sports/romantic anime. well, sports i dont mind. but not the others.

I'm running out of animes to watch. So does anybody wanna help me out here? I mean come on people I'm gonna die waiting on the Naruto anime and manga every week.

I've already watched the following:
FullMetal ALchemist
Yuyu Hakusho
rurouni kenshin
DBZ (all 3 of them)
PeaceMaker Kurogane
Tokyo Mew Mew
D.N Angel
Ouran High School Host Club
Inuyasha
Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
Full Moon wo Sagashite
Chrno Crusade
And Bleach just didn't click for me (Sowwie bleach fans :amuse).

Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru is much less extreme. Seriously... The guy in Koi Kaze just freaks me out. When he was sniffing her panties I was just like.... geez..... please no....

i just finished watching all of Koi Kaze. i thought it was a pretty good anime and explored some deep issues. esp 12 was the best. and yes the 27 year old guy did sniff his sister's bra and then she walked in, but didn't see then he masterbaiting in his room. but they both devolpe mutal feelings for one another, its not like a child molestation porno series.

no really mega spoilerNanoka and Koshiro make love in esp 12. they slept over at his appt. and the next day he was in his boxers and she was wrapped up in the bed sheet with no bra on.

the ending i'm not to sure what it meant. they either went on and resumed there lives as normal while still seeing each other or they mutual broke up. even thought Koshiro says "i love you" serval times over.

anyone know of more animes or movies along the lines of this. this taboo topic and type of relationships really interest me. at one point in the anime Nanoka asked her brother "do you want to commit lover's suicide?" at one point i thought they were going to tell their mother that they were going out. i dunno the drama is just deeper and i know that i'm not into those things, but the psychology of it does intrest me.

Love hina is great but you'd have to read the manga after the anime and the OVAs for the conclusion of the series because it doesn't end in the anime.

Come to think of it all romance/comedy anime that came to my mind also go on more (some aloooooooot more) in their corresponding manga so you might wanna look into some fanslations and whatnot and see if you can get into that too.

Here is a list of the new seasons offerings of fighting animes that come out each week and that I have eather looked at and like or am plaining to watch but have not had a chance. (Or at least that I currently have on my hardisk.)

The ones with ** are ones I am very inpressed in, * are ones I am vertauly 100% that I will keep watching, others I have not 100% decied on yet. (But I dont tend to decied till 3 maby 4 ep's in anyways.)

** Claymore (FIGHTING)
Heroic Age (Meca, Space, War...)
** Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Striker S (Magical girl fighting, but there not excaly little girls anymore.)
* El Cazador de la Bruja (Comady, bouty hunters, strange powers)
* Darker_Than_Black (hmm powers of the mind?, well not 100% excaly what the powers are, but its certainly worth looking at, but I have just finsihed ep 2 so its a bit early to know for sure.)
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagan (Robots, comady)
Shining_Tears_X_Wind <--- Not watched yet
* Kaze_no_Stigma (Magic Fighting)
Bokurano <--- not watched yet

Hopefully that makes some sense and is of some help.

Oh and there is a new OVA called Murder Princess its 6 ep's long and comes out once a mounth, but it looks good.

Hmm, Detective Conan I guess. The main plot's pretty slow, but even so it can still be taken as a fairly decent show about a kid solving multitudes of difficult criminal cases and such.

Whether he's a genius or not can be debatable I suppose. But no doubt he's a great strategist.

If you like Naruto, you'll enjoy Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, and One Piece.

Fantastic anime that aren't necessary like those but kick ass anyway include:

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Death Note
Eureka seveN
Fullmetal Alchemist

This is the anime that transcends all genres and thrashes all Top-10 lists :D
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Hilarious, mysterious, melancholic, fun, and incredibly insightful all at the same time. Not to mention the class-setting animation quality for such a series. You might want to take it slow with the episodes though; 2 viewings per episode is recommended.

Karin (aka Chibi Vampire) is very nice indeed! :laugh

I would also like to recommend:
Music:
Gravitation (It's yaoi)
Nodame Cantabile (Both anime AND live action :wink)

Another anime with music is Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, but I don't like it as much as those mentioned above.

I've heard Bible Black is an excellent series. ^_^

Action with good plot: Berserk (nudity and big violence), Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop. These three are masterpieces.

Comedy: Ouran Host Club, Samurai Champloo (action too), some people like Haruhi Suzumiya.

Death Note is a must-watch for any anime fan. Hajime no Ippo is good.

Here is a list (http://www.animenfo.com/statistic/top.php?type=anime) of good shit. But watch out because crap like Elfen Lied is top rated because it's hentai-ish. And some like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is emotional girl stuff.

Thanks guys, I'll check them out. Especially Smurai Champloo - I was thinking about this one for quite some time.
I already watched about 14 eps of Eureka Seven and I'm sorry to say that I'm deeply disapointed :( . The anime seems to be all package, no content. The main hero is a total wuss I don't ever want to identify with, the first 2 eps is like EXACT retelling of the first 2 eps of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and later it only gets worse - the series is just a bag of all anime clishes. And after 14 eps I still don't know anything, because all characters ever say is "oh its that" "yes its THAT" "So you know, that time" "Yes that thing". Too bad, because I really like the feel of the weird planet and the world the characters lived in.

Tenjou Tenge first 2 eps was awesome, but later it started with flashbacks in flashbacks and some inuntersting blabber and it turned out to be one overrated bore.

Keep in mind, that those are just my opinions and I don't meen to hurt anyone's feelings or tell them that their taste in anime is bud. Just trying to make a discussion.

Anyway thanks for the recommendations, I'll chech them out. You can keep them comming if something really good pops into your mind.

First 10 episodes are generally considered to be the most boring anyway. Honestly, the plot doesn't start until 11 I'd say and the main conflict doesn't start until 26 I'd say. After that it just gets increasingly amazing. I'd give it a second go if I were you.

Any recommendations for anime?

I like popular and interesting ones.

I really liked and ofund them awesome, the episodes of naruto b4 filler, death note, bleach soul society.

One piece only the last 2 arcs were really good for me the other arcs were bad to mediocre.

Hunter X Hunter was interesting although i didnt really like the fight scenes, some were good but none were awesome like Rock Lee vs Gaara fight or Kakashi vs Zabuza, Ichigo vs Byakuya.

Ive also watch code geass (not a fan of mech anime) but it was good not great.

Fumoffo was funny and good and so was the beginning of FMP. The rest was ok but story line abit cliched.

Ive watched 10 eps of claymore and it seems good but still not the awesome factor since its kinda cliched and fights too simple as well althought its good because it falls into the interesting category.

Ive watched Monster the first 10 eps or so and didnt really like it, too realistic and not very exciting/interesting.

I liked kenshin during the shishio arc. And the trust betrayal ova was good but wasn't awesome.

So after reading this wierd/WTF examples of what i like, anyone got any recommendations for me? The reason i wrote all this is because im not really sure what is it that i exactly like if i say it in terms of genre alone, thought it would be easier if i gave my log on the anime i watch.

Thnx for the suggestions, although tengen toppa is a mech anime and im not really a fan of mech animes. But its really popular as i can see in the forum and i tend to like the popular ones for some reason (besides Melancholoy of HS) so i guess ill give that a try.

Ive watched 3 eps of d.gray-man, so far theres not really much variety to how he kills them demons/ghosts. The rest sound good, ive heard good things about Bebop, although i dont know about sumari champloo, do you think its better than kenshin?

TTGL is alright but it's a kids show with the same general plot happening every episode.

1. Bad guy comes
2. Bad guy fights
3. Bad guy gets his ass handed to him
4. Explosions....
5. Credits Role.:)

Since you watch lots of shounen it's probably the best choice for you. Even though its not exactly the best show...

Someone has an overinflated opinion of himself. (Or you are trying to find satisfaction out of being "mature" which would imply a crappy self-image)

Gurren-Lagann is lighthearted fast-paced and full of countless fight scenes. If you want to consider that childish, then go for it. But if you want to take that at face value, then you see exactly what your getting. If you want those qualities in an anime, then go ahead and watch it, regardless of age. We have way too many age based generalizations.

Action/Story
Scrapped Princess

Very very good anime. It started off weird, just about a brother and sister protecting the little sister, then she finds out shes "the poison that will destroy the world" then the story gets deeper and deeper, then you look back and remember. Thats all there was in ep 2? wow, this story really got big. Anyway, its only about 24 episodes and it is GREAT

I need some thriller/action type of animes. I like Yakuza storys and it can get a lil sick...Im ok with that.

So far I LOVE Black Lagoon and am downloading darker than black and I cant wait to see it. I still need to find MY perfect anime.

I need some really good Animes. Im not into these Mech Animes. I dont like them. New shounen ones are reat as well but please no Bleach and One Piece. I know them already.

Anything of Yuu Watase will do, like Fushigi Yugi (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=178) and Ayashi no Ceres (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12). Love has a great focus in her work.
There's also Kare Kano (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=392), Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2570)(/Rumbling Hearts),Gravitation (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=624)(!!boylove!!), Marmalade Boy (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=461) (though the anime is a bit over the top, to many pairings in it, I prefer the manga of this series) and Onegai Teacher (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=386).

There are more titles in this post (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?p=8899771#post8899771).

Onegai Teacher and Kare Kano look alright. None are like.. lovey lovey anime, but I guess nobody in this forum watches anime of that genre.
So I'll download ONegai teacher and Kare kano to see if it's any good. ^^

Oh, and about that list..
That's what I was sort of talking about..
The ones I saw in that list are: Fruits basket, Love hina, Karin, Ranma 1/2, Shakugan no shana.
All of them weren't romance anime, but comedy, action, and/or supernatural.
Ai Yori Aoishi was starting to be a sort of romance anime, but turned into a comedy with romance scenes.. So I guess that's the best there is, huh?
Like there is no romance anime just about romance?
It always has to have a little amount of romance, and the rest is either comedy, and/or action?

BlueCheese
06-22-2007, 10:11 AM
Bokura ga Ita comes to mind maybe. It does have a bit of the whole blushing thing but it does get serious too.

I think there are possibly more manga like that, stuff like Kimi Kara no Resume maybe.

TrueAlchemist

Fushigi Yugi and Ayashi no Ceres are not romantic animes.
Well, you can see it as romantic in one way, but its genre was fantasy.
They were written as shojo (girls) manga, but many male fans read them because of its strong fantasy / action element. They have 80% of action and about 20% of romance I think.

Kare Kano is not bad.
But, If you are not familiar with Japanese school system, it might confuse you.

There are some romactic animes, but just cannot remember.
You should check out Kimi ga Nozomu Eien.
It is very sad love story and has good music, too.

another things you should check out, are
1. Ai Yori Aoshi, it is very famous. "one man vs. many girls theme" is inside. also has a good plot
2. Ah, megaimi sama. (oh my godness) is comedy + love theme .
really good to watch
3. Boys be. It is based on famouse Japanese romactic manga. if you really like romance, you should check it out.
4. Chobits. It has mecha theme. But, it also has elements of love.
5. D.C. ~Da Capo is also famouse one, did not watch it but it has many sequels. should check out, too.
6. Final Approach. it is good. very funny. it is romantic comedy. if you have some free time, it would be good to watch.
7. Girls Bravo. it is romantic comedy anime. it is very funny and also has some nudities, too. but very fun to watch. many guys will like it more than women, but it is fun.
8. Ichigo 100%, it is 100% romantic anime. based on famouse Japanese manga. there are both T.V. and O.V.A.
9. Kanon. it is very famouse and pure romantic anime.
10. Kimagure orange road. it is old anme but it is also pure romantic anime.
11. Lamune. Personally, I did not like it because it only has romantic themes and its comedy elements were not exciting. but it is good to watch.
12. Maison Ikkoku, it is also pure romantic anime. I thinkt it is made by Ranma's writer. But, does not have as many comedy elements as ranma. It has more romantic in it.
13. Midori no Hibi. it is 70% comedy +10% action + 20 % romance. it is really good to watch.
14. Narue No Sekai. it is good comedy romance anime.

Well, let me stop at this point.
Have fun with these anime :)

Darker than Black I dropped

Fate stay night is fantastic but its a anime you can pick up at any point given how it finished a few year ago

So its Claymore or TTGL which is too hard to call I would really recommend given them both a shot as they are the 2 most discussed animes on here at the moment

It takes a while to develop, and I can't say it's the main focus necessarily (well, maybe sorta, heh), but Blood+ is very romantic - I wouldn't say it's "a romance" at all though. But that part of the story is what I found most poignant.

For me - can anyone recommend something along the vein of Blood+? It's my favorite anime, and I am wondering about Basilisk? If you've watched these and have any thoughts, let me know :)

Great story, Great character development, great action, great music.

That's odd. I felt that the romance in E7 developed rather quickly. Then again, it was one-sided for quite some time. If that's what you mean, then you're right. :sweatdrop

Here's a short list of the many anime I've seen that kept me entertained enough to recommend them, a couple with explanations:

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: It's a fairly new series, but awesome none-the-less.

Inuyasha: I'm not recommending the anime so much as the manga. The anime was short-lived at 167 episodes and cancelled near halfway through the manga, but the series itself is chock-full of romance, drama, comedy, intense love triangles, and is rather dark at times. However, this is pretty much a fight-every-episode kind of show. (Although, girls like me were kept entertained. Why can't you? <3)

Great music
Lots of fighting (for the shounen junkies)
Romance and fluff (for the romance junkies <33)
Drama galore

Eureka Seven: Fantastic in every way. Only 50 episodes long, but not a single one let me down. Made my brain hurt at times with the high-tech language, but this one is a definite must for all anime fans.

Great music
Good amount of fighting (enough for everyone!)
Romance and fluff
Drama

Ranma 1/2: Very cute. 1980's anime (by the same creator of "Inuyasha") with a creative idea and likeable characters.

Romance and fluff
Martial arts (down-to-earth stuff)

Death Note: Not one of my all-time favorites, but kept me entertained none-the-less. L made it worth it <3

Chobits.

Ouran High School Host Club: I'm not usually big on the high school animes, but I made an exception for this one. Fannnntastic.

The Vision of Escaflowne.
Fullmetal Alchemist.
KIBA.
.hack//sign.
Star Ocean EX
Trigun.
FLCL.

This is all simply IMO, but I figured it might just help someone out.

watched too many to name really but those I enjoyed are:
hxh, kenshin, slam dunk, hajime no ippo, berserk, school rumble s1/s2, gseed, gseed destiny - don't be hating >_> - , hikaru no go ....and so on.

Yes, I know about all the new animes like Claymore, Gurren Lagann, Darker then Black etc and I find them... pretty boring tbh. Gurren Lagann have made me grin a few times but I'd rather rewatch blood + then watch Claymore and Darker then black tbh. I don't understand why people name these animes when people give a list and ask for something similar...Cuz claymore is nothing like Naruto or Bleach, yet I see people recommend it to people who ask for an anime like "naruto or bleach".

I want an older anime, one that makes you want to watch next episode before you even start on one. Interesting character, comedy (doesn't have to), no shoujo or loliconish animes, decent plot.

Kurau:

Thanks but I've already seen those and am a big fan of Ikki Tousen :sag

I'm trying to find a new series along the lines of naruto/bleach. fancy/cool powers and so on.

already seen HxH, one piece, flame of recca, trinity blood, black cat. i know this is probably the type of anime most ask for but please help me. I'm soooo bored :P

PS. preferably a decently long series. (30+eps)

Although it's one season(26 episodes and 3 OVAs), watch Shadow Skill if you like Bleach because they have great fighting techniques in Shadow Skill. If you don't want to start DLing right away, you can stream the first few episodes online since i've uploaded them to veoh.com >_>

yep already seen second season, i have all the episodes too :woo if you look in the Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny Thread i''ve posted in there numerous times. I've watched Ah! My Goddess too...as well as reading a bit into the manga :o I haven't seen the movie though so that might be something to consider when i'm bored again.

Thanks for reminding me of Soul Taker though, that was a show I started many months ago but forgot about. Actually, same for Kannazuki no Miko too :laugh So thanks for reminding me to watch both!

Does anyone know any anime along the line of School Rumble? Or romance/ comedy anime?

Hm...need a new anime to watch.

watched too many to name really but those I enjoyed are:
hxh, kenshin, slam dunk, hajime no ippo, berserk, school rumble s1/s2, gseed, gseed destiny - don't be hating >_> - , hikaru no go ....and so on.

I want an older anime, one that makes you want to watch next episode before you even start on one. Interesting character, comedy (doesn't have to), no shoujo or loliconish animes, decent plot.

it might not be the exactly same kinda anime but i also loved HxH and hajime no ippo and so on and i also really liked flame of recca and black cat. might be worth lookin into

I've never seen School Rumble, but it is some high school/comedy/romance right? Have you seen Ouran High School Host Club (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6122)? If not, then you certainly should! smile-big
I can also recommend you Karin (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5949).

Hmm ok, i'm looking for a good anime to watch, preferably one that's already finished so i can watch through the whole series, one that's a romantic or romantic/comedy that's light hearted and not too sad. Would like one thats got a very good story, something like 2 people seperated at childhood or sometime in there lives and it follows though that character on his quest to find him/her. Prefere a happy ending too heh.

Already seen Full Moon so no need to recommend that, which was good.

King of Hell. Read that

Shadow Skill. Watch that. I consider it sort of Bleach/narutoish.

Black Blood Brothers and Black Cat might also be a good watch for you.

Just a little question, is King of Hell shounen or seinen?

I'll check out Shadow Skill.
