So, who here has read Christopher Paulini's Eragon? That was a really good book. Surprisingly, even though he incorporates the redundent idea of elves and dwarves and whatnot, the book retains it originality and own special spark. Personally as a fellow writer, I felt so jealous of his talent to write such a great novel when he was fifteen.

So, what do you guys and girls think about the novel? And does anyone know when Eldest is coming out?

no, i haven't read it. all i've heard about it is that my friend saw geeks talking about who was the best dragon in eragon. that's why i never read it. :D

...that would want to make me not read it too. Especially since there are what, 2 dragons so far.

very good book, but a bit (a bit???) predictable. but, hey, you kinda need the no-brainers every-so-often.
but i want to read the next one!!

It's a pretty good book, I'll give Mr. Paolini that. But it's a pretty good rip off of Lord of the Rings if you look at the names, races, etc.

Nontheless, I'll read the next book.

Cliched, all I can say- If you want a dead sexy LOTR ripoff series, read the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan

I picked it up once but his writing style didn't engage me so I never actually got past the second chapter. I hear it is a really good book so maybe i'll pick it up again one day.

I read the first one it was good some cliche yet I liked how they added a "mind bending" twist to this story like communicating with dragons and other stuff

Hey, they're coming out with a Eragon movie, I just wanted to know if it's worth reading before seeing the movie, like The Da Vinci Code, book was waaaaaay better.

I loved this book. Eragon was very creative and so interesting to read. Eldest (the sequel) was amazing as well.

My younger brothers like this book . I gave it a try this summer . I think it's quite a good read. Eldest is fine, there're some unpredictable twists

I don't read much Fantasy. I have to say the only reason I took Eragon to read was that the author was not much older than me when wirting it. I was curious. I don't think it's anything so special, but it's nothing so bad either. Just enjoyable and easy to read. But I know form what my firends, who read fantasy a lot, that it's just a total ripof everything. One guy who is a Star Wars fan almost predicted the whole content of the Eldest after havinbg read Eragon. I know, I'm totally jealous, for I'm writing various things since I was 7 and was never able to finish anything. But Aragon is nothing so special. I enjoyed Eldest, for it gives us Roran point of view. I hate when the book is told ,,from third person" and focuses only around the main character. Like in Harry Potter, we don't know what is Ron htinking, what is Hermione thinking, just everything focuses around Harry. Anyway, I';m gonna read Book 3. I wonder is the ending is original.

Both books are great, does anyone know where i can get the excerpt from book three that was released in the deluxe edition of Eldest?

I liked both books, but it is clear without knowing the author's age that he was quite young. On top of that, a lot of concepts were copied from Lord of the Rings; especially the perfect distant and cold elf lady. >.>

I thought that the first book Eragon was a little better than the second book, Eldest. They were both good. does any one know when the third book is coming out? I'd really like to know.

Yeah, it's going to be out this year I believe. IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449010/)

I liked the Eragon book(s), but it felt kind of hollow. Not nearly in the same class as LoTR but still a good book.

he started it when he was fifteen and it says it took him like 3 years making it better .... so he wasnt fifteen when it was finished.

i like the books but, lol, he only thought up of the idea when he was fifteen.

the movie looks crap if you ask me

the saphira looks fake and the characters don't look like what i expected, too 'neo-medieval' if you catch my drift

I won't say it is the worst book. But I will say it is probably the worst book that has ever gotten this much popularity. The amount of suck that this one books gives out is incomprehensible. Luckily this isn't an Eragon site so I don't have to waste my time with going about why it is so terrible. However I will give you guys a path to an alternate opinion, that isn't blinded by the fact that Paolini was underage when he wrote it (even though he is now 23).

http://anti-shurtugal.com/

Of course this is all opinion so really I have nothing more to say. And it is pointless to tell me how much YOU like it, or why YOU think it is good because I am already adamant on the fact that it is a terrible peice of literature, that abuses the idea's of others in order to pull out a half-coherent story, with zero character depth, zero plot intrigue, and zero originality.

I am currently reading it because I don't like to watch movies without seeing the books that they are based on.

All I can say is this: it reads like bad fanfiction. I'm serious, if this had not been published and merely put on the internet, he would receive a lot more constructive criticism. The writing style is either too stiff or trying too hard to be elaborate (although it greatly improved after the last chapter.) Some of the ideas are idiotic, cliche and clearly added in because the author thought that it was cool. But what teenagers think is cool is often stupid, (I should know, I am a teenager.)

I admit, I have read worse things and it's impressive for a teenager. But I don't understand how he got it published let along had a movie made after it.

People are so focused on the fact that it was written by a teenager that they do not notice that it is a bad book written by a teenager. I very much hope that he improves for any future books that he releases.

P.S. His names feel like they were grabbed out of a Mary-Sue fic...

As much as i did like reading it, i agree partly. It was way to stiff sometimes and some of the idea's were just stupid :P
