Actually, Bruce Lee's capacity as a one of the greatest martial artists in the world is debatable, if you dig deep though.

They fought once. Bruce whooped Chucks ass. So Bruce wins

are you serious!? one 5 inch punch from bruce lee is all it takes to finish it off.
plus bruce lee actually "invented" a fighting style.
anyone who invents a fighting style is badass in my book.

I doubt they ever fought seriously.

Don't know about Chuck Norris in his prime, but Bruce Lee was frighteningly fast and had real destructive power. He did blow up a sandbag with a kick, if I remember correctly.

Chuck Norris's ability in martial arts is highly over-rated.

Bruce Lee kicked Jackie Chans ass too. A while ago. Jackie Chan once said that there will never, and can never, be another bruce lee. He was that good. He was always challenged by other fighters when he became famous, and he treat it as if it was just apart of his everyday routine. Bruce Lee takes this.

Bruce Lee was the real deal and a great martial artist. I can't see Chuck Norris winning this fight.

Bruce Lee wins, but as CBG pointed out, there are others who are far surperior to Bruce Lee in martial arts.

I doubt it. I mean this guy was as close one could get to superhuman.

He was also incredibly strong. He could do push-ups using his two pointer fingers. Then he would put one hand behind his back, and he'd just be using 1 finger.

Obviously, according to probability there's someone who was a better martial artist than Bruce Lee; that doesn't take away the fact that Bruce Lee was incredibly influential to martial arts and he's left his permanent mark on it, period.

Any legendary boxer would probably beat him.

Not dying to a somewhat young death would've certainly left room for Lee to improve a far greater then what his potential was finished as. In his time, he was almost completely undisputed as a master of martial arts.

That said, Chuck Norris is trash.

Do we know those? Not that I would agree or deny, I just want to know.

Any legendary boxer would probably beat him.

Hell, no. Bruce Lee would eat them for breakfast, including Tyson, Dempsey and Rocky Marciano. All he needs to do is to kick.
And I'm sure, you DO know that a kick is far, far more powerful than a punch.

Not really. It's not like there just going to sit around and wait for a kick to hit them.

So what? Bruce Lee is faster in any way. I could see Muhammad Ali in his prime keeping up with Lee, but unlike him, Bruce Lee isn't limited to punches. Anyone else gets his ass kicked.

In a boxing match Bruce lee loses to any top boxers.

In a martial arts match Bruce wins against ANY boxer of any era or skill level. Ali did not know how to sprawl, he probably didn't even know what that meant. Lee would put him on the floor and snap his arm in two or just make him go unconscious. You have to step in to punch, you can't just run, bruce was fast, and he could kick, boxers dont kick. Ali would lose to leg kicks alone probably.

Boxers are rather fast. And Ali fought against martial artists before, and won.

That's true. My premise was that there were no rules in that kind of match up. Everyone does what he's best at.
I never ever meant Bruce Lee to win with boxing. He will win because he's so much more versatile than a boxer. Even if a boxer isn't technically limited to punches in that match-up, he would still lose.

Lol at you thinking that was a real fight

http://www.prophetsplace.com/aliinoki.shtml

Inoki was prohibited from punching with a closed fist or striking Ali in the head (ostensibly since he wasn't wearing gloves). Inoki was prohibited from using any sort of submission maneuver. The most absurd limitation was that Inoki was prohibited from "grapping or trying to take Ali to the ground". A few observers noted that this was like not letting Ali throw a jab.

This is a joke, right? No idea, who the hell Antonio Inoki is, but all he does is to crawl on the floor and trying to kick Ali from there...

Edit: Oh...Inoki had limitations? Shame on Ali for boasting...

On Topic: Ali takes this because of his height and weight advantage, combined with his knowledge of basic grappling techniques.

Look up Royce Gracie beating up huge guys that didnt know how to fight on the ground. Royce wasnt fighting guys with anywhere near Alis boxing abilities but that doesnt matter. What matters is Ali didn't know enough ground game to do anything when it got there nor would he have been good enough to stay on his feet against someone trained to grapple even if they are much smaller.

Bruce Lee would have lost to Royce gracie I am sure of that. But Lee did know A LOT about submissions and fighting on the ground. He didn't have a lot of it in his movies because the average joe thinks its boring or not sporting.

Anyway, main point, size is irrelevant if you don't have basic ground and wrestling ability. Ali didn't have it.

I think you people underestimate Ali too much.
There is also a fact, that Bruce Lee was great Ali's admirer, and had all his fights on tape. He also praised Ali's footwork and hand techniques.
Anyway.. There are a lot of debates about LeevsAli and I think Ali wins all the time..

Chuck Norris will probably lose, though. Unless he'll have his gun and a cowboy hat..

The thing is Lee doesn't fight like Royce, Lee is into kicks. Ali is more than fast enough to take advantage of the recovery time of a kick, even one of Bruce Lee's. He also has enough good enough with determining reach to move out of the way. Once he managed to get inside punching range Lee would be dominated.

On The Topic of footwork: Lee pretty much copied Ali's footwork, watch some of Ali's matches and then whatever you can find with lee that's not all movie magic'd up. You'll notice plenty of similarities.

On the real topic: Wasn't Norris just a "show" martial artist, like almost no real experience? He would be beaten.

I really don't know about chuck, I know he was world karate (or whatever) champion at one time. They probably competed in point matches though and not real fighting. I'm sure Norris is/was tough but not on the same level as real contact fighters.

If lee tried to fight with a kicking focus there is a much better chance of him losing. I think Lee would know better then to stay standing with Ali, he certainly had the skills to do whatever he would want in the fight. but yea habits are hard to break and I would bet Lee would want to throw a lot of kicks if for no other reason then to feel Ali out. It could cost him the fight.

I believe Chuck was the noncontact karate champion of the world for like 2 years. Never could bring myself to watch any of his "matches" though.

I think the fight really comes down to how much they know about each other. I mean I know Lee was an Ali fan, and Ali has watched some of his movies.

However, on November 24, 1968, he avenged his defeat to Delgado and in the process won the Professional Middleweight Karate champion (non-contact) title, which he held for six consecutive years.[5] In 1969, he won Karate's triple crown for the most tournament wins of the year, and the fighter of the year award by Black Belt Magazine. It was also in 1969 that Norris made his acting debut, in the Dean Martin movie The Wrecking Crew.
-From wikipedia

I still favor Lee over Ali. I think it would be Lees fight to win or lose depending on the strategies he went with. And I think he would chose the smart ones.

Lee would certainly beat Chuck, though don't underestimate Chuck.

He had black belt and was also teaching Jean Claude Van Damme.

As for Ali vs Lee, I would say Boxers, especially "legendary" ones such as Ali are actually one of the most dangerous 1on1 fighters.

They try to drive you in corner, once they succeed it's pretty much over.

Most of the time a decent Boxer of the same weight vs for example a decent kickboxer or martial artist would win, a kickboxer driven in a corner has almost no chance defending against a Boxers punches.

That said, I think Ali would win vs Lee, even though I like Lee more, I'm not into Boxing, but no1 beats Zombie Bruce Lee's one-inch-necro-punch:nod
